General note
The rectangular case is distinguished by a central "speedometer" dial. The 1950s design with variations in the grill (size and thickness) competed with the 1940s Baby Champ "waterfall" grill series. The horizontal grill is susceptible to cracking. W.J. Doig, a radio receiver engineer, supervised the design of the cabinets, directing draughts man and commercial artists for over eight years. According to Doig, Industrial design and development engineering of all radio models is conducted entirely in the radio engineering department of the Belleville plant.... The number of radio receivers produced in Canada has grown from a prewar annual average of 4000,000 sets to over 700,000 in 1953." ("Radio And Industrial Design", Northern Circuit, Summer 1954).
