Biographical history

Gordon Hamilton Jack (1913-1978), was educated at the University of Toronto where he received a Bachelor's degree (1934). He was later employed by John Labatt Ltd. in industrial relations in London, Ontario. At university, Jack was involved in student politics, and was president of the campus branch of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. He was active in the League for Social Reconstruction in London, Ontario, and was also a member of the local CCF riding association.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of copies of 'Canadian student' (published by the Student Christian Movement), 'The student,' (Student League of Canada), 'Youth forum,' (Canadian Youth Congress), and 'The new commonwealth,' (Co-operative Commonwealth Federation), 1934-1936. In addition, there is material from the League for Social Reconstruction, including minutes of meetings of the National Executive (1936-1941), membership material, and reports from the National Convention (1936), as well as newspaper clippings and related material. For the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation there are minutes, campaign material, and newspaper clippings relating to the London (Ont.) Riding Association (1938-1946).
