File consists of correspondence with George Radisics, a geologist and miner based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, manager of Slemon Yellowknife Mines Limited. File also includes a map of southwestern Rouyn, Quebec, two drawings of claims in the Northwest Territories, and a drawing of drill holes in Slemon Yellowknife Mines.

History of property

File consists of a typed document describing the history of the Thompson-Lundmark gold mine located near Thompson Lake, Northwest Territories. The document gives an account of the discovery of gold in the area and the development of the mine. Several illustrations are included: vertical cross sections diagrams of the mine, an illustration of a pumping system used to dewater a mine shaft, and a flow sheet which describes the stages of the gold mining process.

Ingersoll Rand : Arrowhead

File consists of a proposal by Ingersoll-Rand Company to supply Arrowhead Consolidated Mines, Ltd. with an air compressor plant, with drilling, sharpener, hoisting, mine car, and pumping equipment. The proposal includes illustrations, cost breakdowns, and detailed descriptions of the air compressor plant.

Irwin Hoffman claims

File consists of records relating to the development of the Irving Hoffman claims at Pelletier Lake, Quebec, which were purchased by the Canadian Mines Development Syndicate in November 1928. Records include: a memo which details a payment plan between Canadian Mines Development Syndicate and the Eastham Co. in 1929; a report of work sent to the Department of Colonization, Mines and Fisheries in Quebec which details the prospecting of the claim in May 1924; correspondence relating to the claim and its stock; and eight newspaper clippings.

Joanne Syndicate : Arrowhead

File consists of: photographs depicting mining structures, log cabins, camps, and drill holes; newspaper clippings about the Arrowhead mines; correspondence regarding the Joanne Syndicate, 1930-1932; drawings of a mine held by Masara Consolidated Mines Corp.; payment agreements from Masara Consolidated Mines Corp.; and cheques to Gold Operators (Canada) Ltd.

Junior Frood Mines Ltd. : general

File consists of correspondence pertaining to the Junior Frood Mine in Sudbury, Ontario and the associated mining company, Junior Frood Mines Ltd. Arnold Hoffman purchased shares in Junior Frood Mines Ltd., entered a voting trust agreement to serve as trustee of the company in 1935, and oversaw a transfer of 35,000 shares to Gold Operators (Canada) Ltd. in 1944.

File consists of two letters to John Costello to Robert Hoffman, relating to the development of mines near Larder Lake, Ontario, 1943, and two hand-written notes, entitled "Gold Mining Finance" and "Episode of Kaplan Oaks," which were likely early drafts of sections of Hoffman's book, Free Gold: The Story of Canadian Mining.

The file also includes an unrelated file: typed pages titled "Diary of R.D. Hoffman" which include physical and technical descriptions of Coniaurum mine, 1935.

Sunset Yellowknife

File consists of correspondence related to Sunset Yellowknife mines in the Northwest Territories, predominantly addressed to Fred W. Thomson, President of Sunset Yellowknife until 1950. Correspondence also includes some geological reports and assays. File contains two lists of shareholders, 1945-1946. Fred W. Thomspon, Robert Hoffman and Arnold Hoffman resigned from Sunset Yellowknife Mines Limited in 1950, but they retained substantial shares in the company as directors of the Thompson Prospecting Syndicate, which held 700,000 shares in 1945 and 500,000 in 1946.
