Also included are research notes developed from the records held in private collections of notarial minutes concerning property and the lives of people active in trade between France and Canada, and copies of secondary literature devoted to this topic.

The fourth section consists of research notes drawn from the Bibliothèque Municipale de Rouen, fonds Dardel dating from the late 17th-18th century, and research notes from the Archives Départementales d'Eure in Evreux on mid-17th-century shipping. The fifth section consists of research notes on négotiants, armateurs en général and bankers of St. Malo, Rouen and other locations in France (e.g. Paris). The sixth section consists of research notes on various marine insurance companies, most notably the Chambre d'Assurance et grosse aventure or La Compagnie d'Assurance; La Compagnie d'Assurance générale maritimes et incendiaires; and La Compagnie d'Assurance.
