Records document his life in all these spheres and include the following: correspondence from family, friends, academic colleagues and fellow activists; records of his legal battles at various colleges and universities in the defence of civil rights and academic freedom including challenges from the House Committee on Un-American Activities; records that document his and his wife's activism in landmark American events such as the integration of schools in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1954, and the fight for equal rights for blacks in housing in US cities; professorial records and his work as a respected mathematician and scholar; and related books, journals and pamphlets accumulated by him during his decades of work in these areas. Fonds consists of material related to Virginia Rock's research for her doctoral dissertation and other academic writing pertaining to the Twelve Southern Agrarians. Records include research notes and index cards, photocopies of newspaper clippings, book reviews, literary criticism, journal articles, and photocopies of material written by or about the Southern Agrarians regarding their lives and work, as well as their correspondence with Rock. The fonds also contains Rock's personal and professional correspondence, drafts of Rock's final dissertation and articles, records concerning her involvement with the Canadian Women's Studies Association, as well as materials pertaining to Rock's work as a professor at York University, including information about Stong College, syllabi, course kits and reading lists, information about symposiums she attended, and items relating to her work as an instructor and advisor for the Graduate Women's Studies Programme. Also included in the fonds are records pertaining to Rock's experience teaching American literature as a Fulbright visiting professor at Jagiellonian University in Krakow between 1962 and 1964. These records, which include photographs, correspondence and memorabilia, document Rock's activities while in Poland as well as her return visits to Poland in later years and her general interest in the country. An issue of the Polish magazine "Ameryka," featuring an article about Virginia Rock, has been added to Special Collections; an English translation is available in the fonds.

These records also document her associations with early teachers Guilhermina Suggia, Donald Francis Tovey, Nadia Boulanger and Pablo Casals, as well as her work with the Manitoba University Consort during the 1960s and the Quatre en Concert in the 1970s. The personal diaries in the fonds span Sampson's time in Edinburgh and London during World War II to her immigration to Canada in 1951 to teach at the University of Manitoba and her employment at York University from 1970 to 1977.

The collection consists of material related to James Milner's career in the area of community planning law and includes a copy of the article written by Mary Louise Bogart and John Edward Page on Milner as well as correspondence relating to its publication. In addition, there is material on the Town Planning Institute of Canada (TPIC), predominantly materials of a historical nature. There are also several audio reels and cassettes of interviews with planners and members of the TPIC who were Milner's colleagues. Finally, there are some microfilm copies of studies done in the area of land conservation. Some of this material was removed from the Milner fonds during the time it was held by the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University.

The files belonging to Sheila Harbron contain personal records as well as genealogical research files, which include records and photographs tracing the Buck, Harbron, Hardy, Lester, Matheson, and Ryerson families.

Accession 2009-019 includes an album of presentation photographs taken by Panda Associates showing Founders College, Steacie Science Library, the Farquharson Life Sciences Building, Burton Auditorium and the Central Utilities Building likely during the 1960s, as well as photographs and textual material regarding the dedication of the Scott Library on 30 October 1971.
