Helmut Buxbeam : correspondence

File consists of typescript letters, compiled research on seniors in prison, and a list of Buxbaum’s arrests and time in prison. He was a prisoner at the time of this correspondence, convicted of killing his wife. Also included is copied correspondence Buxbaum sent to the producers of “The fifth estate” eight years prior pertaining to aging offenders and a summary of the facts from his trial as part of a new trial application.

File consists of a newsletter update, clippings, correspondence and the publication from the United Nations Development Fund for Women, “Progress of the world’s women” volumes 1 and 2, 2002. The records pertain to the United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.

File consists of communiques and a draft background paper on global health, developed in Costa Rica, used to support the creation of a L20 process for governments to effectively address common health challenges. The file also contains newspaper articles pertaining to the United Nations.

Implementation plan for the NATO policy on combating trafficking in human beings

File pertains to McPhedran’s efforts for Canada to share a draft training module to expedite the development of effective training materials that could be used in all NATO training centres for peacekeepers. McPhedran worked at having senior Canadian military and/or NATO leaders to deliver the draft module at an upcoming NATO workshop, “Curriculum Development on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings,” to be held in Geneva, Sept. 30 – Oct. 1, 2004.

American Convention on Human Rights : international

File pertains to the Canadian adherence to the ACHR and includes an interim report of the Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights. File also includes correspondence between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pierre S. Pettigrew, and the Minister of Health, Ujjal Dosanjh and the controversy around abortion language in the ACHR.

This commission centred around the 10th anniversary of the 4th United Nations World Conference on Women held in Beijing, and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.” Records include conference agendas and timetables, presentation outline for the NGO workshop “War on trial,” a mock trial with McPhedran as witness, pamphlets and newsletters from organizations that focus on peace, nuclear disarmament, gender-based violence, and gender equality. Also included are reports from various United Nations councils, Asia Pacific Women’s Watch, World Health Organization, and Canadian Women’s Health Network.

File consists of a draft of York’s novel “Far cry” in assembly form. The assembly is created by cutting out and taping typescript scenes together to form long scrolls of writing. The assembly has been flattened to facilitate access but some pieces of paper have become detached from their original position within the text. The title “Requited” was used on drafts before publication.

The Ghost of Bagamoyo : play script and children’s story

File consists of the script for a children’s play first filmed and broadcast on CBC's "Morningside" in 1992 and on CBC's "Arts Tonight" in 1993. The play was part of “The Child’s Play Collection” that features six original plays all written by Canadian authors. The file also consists of a copy of the story with children’s drawings accompanying the text.
