Fonds consists of material that documents Pitman’s career as a politician, educator, writer and social activist. It includes personal and professional correspondence, notes and speech materials, newspaper clippings and other material related to his years spent as a Member of Provincial Parliament and as a Member of Parliament as well as his unsuccessful leadership campaign for the federal New Democratic Party in 1971. It also includes his Toronto Star writing files, numerous files pertaining to his education activities both at the provincial and federal levels with a special emphasis on arts education, records that document his tenure as President of Ryerson Polytechnic University, his activities as chairman of Project Ploughshares, his work with the Arts Education Institute of Ontario, as well as an extensive collection of notes, drafts and final copies of speeches delivered by Pitman to a variety of organizations including Elderhostel. Fonds consists of records pertaining to the personal and professional life of Italian-Canadian artist Luigi Nasato. These records, dating from 1931 to 2015, document Nasato’s early life and education in Istrana, Italy, as well as his emigration to first Argentina and then Toronto, Ontario. The records primarily pertain to Nasato’s artistic output and include several hundred drawings, sketches, paintings, and preliminary studies created over the course of his career, as well as a number of awards granted to Nasato on the basis of his artistic contributions. Many of the artistic works included in the fonds relate to projects completed in Toronto and environs, particularly to mosaic projects created by Nasato at a number of churches in the region. Fonds also includes notes on art history and artistic technique created by Nasato as both a student and professional artist, as well as miscellaneous textual and financial records pertaining to the practicalities of his artistic career. Also included in the fonds is an extensive collection of photographs and clippings, compiled by Nasato over the course of his life, most of which document works of art created by Nasato and others.

Fonds also consists of audio cassettes recordings used by Thaniel in the course of his work as professor of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Toronto. Recordings include interviews with Modern Greek authors and poets, poetry and prose readings, live theatre recordings, and music performances, in addition to discussions and lectures. Audio recordings further include Thaniel reciting his own poetry, as well as a memorial that was recorded posthumously following his sudden death in June 1991.

Fonds consists of handwritten and typescript novel drafts, source notes, character and scene sketches, and research material accumulated and created by Alissa York as part of her process to write her short story collection, Any Given Power (1999), and her novels: Mercy (2003), Effigy (2007), Fauna (2010), The Naturalist (2016), and Far Cry (2023).

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran through her activities as a lawyer, legal reformer, and activist. These records illustrate the breadth and variety of McPhedran's work in the areas of constitutional reform, women's international and national rights, women's health, and violence against women and children. Included in the fonds are administrative records of a number of non-profit organizations and committees of which she was a founder, including the Women's Legal Education Action Fund, the Gerstein Centre, the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence against Women and Children, and the Ad Hoc Committee of Canadian Women on the Constitution. Other records in this fonds, including subject files, correspondence and conference materials, document McPhedran's academic, research and writing work and her contracted work for women's health organizations.

The bulk of files contain lecture notes on specific plays, playwrights, and dramatic themes. The scripts are arranged alphabetically by title and include, 'Ben Casey', 'From here to eternity,' (1979) on which Siegel worked with several others, 'The last westerner,' with a screenplay by Jack Elam and Siegel, several episodes of 'Peyton Place,' 'Rawhide,' (including script for "Corporal Dasovik," for which Siegel was awarded 'Best western TV drama of the year, 1964,) 'Then came Bronson, (1969), episodes of 'The Waltons,' (1972), 'The bold ones,' 'Hoover versus the Kennedys the second civil war,' (1987) and others. There are also story outlines for possible productions, including movies-of-the-week on American network television.

The fonds consists of a carbon typescript of Sir Osbert Sitwell's 'Miracle on Sinai,' under the working title, 'The new commandments or, make up your minds' as well as revisions in handwritten form, and carbon typescript pages of re-written passages.

The fonds consists of a taped interview of Denis Smith by Paul Axelrod, a graduate student at York University, concerning the early history of the university, and the dispute between the then-president, Murray Ross and the faculty in 1963. It also includes a transcript of the interview.

In addition, there are photographs of locales he had visited.

The fonds consists of records accumulated by Roy Merrens as a result of his activities as a geographer, professor, and member of various associations, authorities, and boards. The records have been physically arranged by the creator by subject; the original order has been maintained. They include maps, correspondence, minutes and agenda of meetings, mailing lists, reports, drafts, notes, press releases, proposals, copies of legislation, affidavits, telegrams, statistical data tables, newspaper clippings, journal articles, photographs, slides and a postcard. Also included is a file containing articles and reports about the geography, landscape and architecture of York University.

The collection consists of material related to James Milner's career in the area of community planning law and includes a copy of the article written by Mary Louise Bogart and John Edward Page on Milner as well as correspondence relating to its publication. In addition, there is material on the Town Planning Institute of Canada (TPIC), predominantly materials of a historical nature. There are also several audio reels and cassettes of interviews with planners and members of the TPIC who were Milner's colleagues. Finally, there are some microfilm copies of studies done in the area of land conservation. Some of this material was removed from the Milner fonds during the time it was held by the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University.

The fonds consists of Fred Matthews Young's working files for his legislative responsibilities. The largest part of the fonds contains files related to transportation and especially highway traffic, which reflects Young's role on the Select Committee on Highway Traffic. The files are divided into subjects related to transportation (safety, lighting, re-sale of automobiles, automobile prices, alternatives to the automobile), and include reports of government agencies, briefs to the Select Committee and other committees, copies of bills, copies of Hansard (Ontario), advertisements, press releases and background material. In addition, there is material on several other issues before the Legislative Assembly including smoking, housing (including public housing), election expenses, reformatories, municipal affairs, and material relating to the Revenue Ministry, including material on land transfer taxes, provincial income taxes, the government estimates, securities law, the Corporations Act and related subjects. This material includes reports, submissions, statements of ministers and members, copies of speeches, Hansard, copies of bills and amendments and related material.

Fonds consists of material related to Virginia Rock's research for her doctoral dissertation and other academic writing pertaining to the Twelve Southern Agrarians. Records include research notes and index cards, photocopies of newspaper clippings, book reviews, literary criticism, journal articles, and photocopies of material written by or about the Southern Agrarians regarding their lives and work, as well as their correspondence with Rock. The fonds also contains Rock's personal and professional correspondence, drafts of Rock's final dissertation and articles, records concerning her involvement with the Canadian Women's Studies Association, as well as materials pertaining to Rock's work as a professor at York University, including information about Stong College, syllabi, course kits and reading lists, information about symposiums she attended, and items relating to her work as an instructor and advisor for the Graduate Women's Studies Programme. Also included in the fonds are records pertaining to Rock's experience teaching American literature as a Fulbright visiting professor at Jagiellonian University in Krakow between 1962 and 1964. These records, which include photographs, correspondence and memorabilia, document Rock's activities while in Poland as well as her return visits to Poland in later years and her general interest in the country. An issue of the Polish magazine "Ameryka," featuring an article about Virginia Rock, has been added to Special Collections; an English translation is available in the fonds.

Fonds consists of records created by Marc Stein in the course of his activities as a teacher and administrator, including a draft history of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer activities at York University from the 1960s to 1979, articles clipped from the student newspaper, Excalibur, concerning police harassment, women’s liberation and homophiles, student and media attitudes toward gays, and campus housing, and newsletters of the York University Homophile Association, 1970-1971, that were given to Stein when he was appointed Sexuality Studies Coordinator; records of the Sexuality Studies Committee pertaining to support for the program proposal, governance of the program, status of courses, proposal for certificate and minor programs, course enrolment, course instruction and designations, special events such as lectures and film nights, development of a course rubric, supplemental calendars for 2006-2010, minutes of Council meetings, a bibliography of faculty publications and productions, printed email correspondence, course proposal forms, award proposal forms for student academic performance, student lists, statements of revenue and expenses, the proposal to develop an option to major in Sexuality Studies; and course syllabi.

Fonds consists of records created by Sig Gerber in his role as producer of several series for the CBC. Gerber's production responsibilities included overseeing the creative aspects involved with story proposals, research, script writing, and direction for each episode, as well as the management of technical components and financial resources. The fonds contains other documents related to the series' production, including reports, correspondence, meeting notes, handwritten notes, scripts, videocassettes, and promotional items, as well as reports on the CBC's broadcasting policies and the network's promotional material. Also included in this fonds are materials pertaining to Gerber's work as a trainer for the CBC Training and Development Department, miscellaneous internal CBC memoranda (1968-1996), and a file of ephemera and photographs from Gerber's time working at CHUM Radio in Toronto (1961-1964).

Fonds consists of dance notations recorded using Labanotation or Kinetography Laban, created or acquired by Mary Jane Warner and used in her work as a professor of dance. The notations take the form of manuscript symbols hand-drawn by Warner while a student at Ohio State University (including Labanotation for her dissertation), photocopies of works produced by other notators, and printed works published by the Dance Notation Bureau and the Royal Academy of Dancing. The notations are grouped according to elementary, intermediate, and advanced readings, with titles that often include the name of the choreographer and, in some cases, the notator. The works of Doris Humphrey, Ray Cook, Anthony Tudor, George Balanchine, Muriel Topaz, and Ann Hutchinson Guest figure prominently among the notations. The fonds also includes Warner’s lecture notes on the history of dance notation and Labanotation, material on teaching dance, notes for a lecture on E.A. Theleur’s "Letters on dancing : reducing this elegent and healthful exercise to easy scientific principles" (London, 1831), and programs and proceedings from various international conferences on Labanotation and Kinetography Laban.

Records include a small amount of correspondence; obituary notices and program for the Wieland funeral; press clippings and articles on the work of Joyce Wieland; photographs of Wieland, her friends and family; personal ephemera relating to Wieland; photographs taken at a drawing workshop led by Wieland in St. Michael's, Newfoundland; records and scripts pertaining to Wieland's film "The Far Shore" as well as notes by Wieland about the film; photographs used in the Jane Lind biography of Wieland; small works of art done by Wieland such as sketches, drawings and paintings.

Fonds consists of 327 letters written by Liisa Lumiala to her friend Terttu Hansen between 1943-1979, ending a few months before Liisa's death from cancer. The first set of letters until 7 March 1948 were written from various places in Finland, as Liisa and her family were moved around by the government from one residence to another. The next set of letters, covering the time period 22 March 1948 to 20 July 1948 were written from various locations in Sweden, where Liisa and her daughter Tytti were waiting to receive their immigration papers to move to Canada.The final set, beginning 30 August 1948 were written in Canada, again from various locations and addresses around Port Arthur, Fort William and Toronto. This collection of letters provides insight into the day-to-day life of a Finnish immigrant woman who moved to Canada to create a new life for herself with her husband and family after World War II.

The fonds consists of some typescript, corrected reports and research papers by Edith Ferguson (1948-1977), as well as published copies of some of them. There are also several volumes dealing with immigrant, integration and multiculturalism issues, novels, and reports from research institutes, government organizations, charitable bodies, and others involved in the immigration and integration fields (1929-1983). There are also some newspaper clippings relating to immigration and multiculturalism in Canada.

Fonds consists of music used by the Rex Battle Orchestra, including a series of envelopes arranged alphabetically by song title that contain published scores and lyrics, as well as original arrangements by Rex Battle. Notes written on the envelopes show names of songs, composers and publishers, as well as the music’s key, performance dates, costs of the published music and the breakdown of the scores by instrument. This fonds also consists of orchestral scores and sheet music for the piano, organ, violin, viola, clarinet, and other instruments.

The fonds consists of eight audio reels which contain the papers read and proceedings of the seventh annual seminar of the Canadian Association for Irish Studies held at York University in March, 1974. It also includes conference and workshop materials, pedagogical documents, drafts of Sternberg's Cinema Canada column, materials related to screenings, exhibitions, and festivals, as well as correspondence with friends and colleagues, including contemporary Canadian experimental artist Michael Fernandes and former Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate George Elliott Clarke. The fonds consists of a copy of transcripts of taped interviews conducted by John Reynolds for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1964. The interviews were never broadcast. The material from these interviews and the transcripts formed the basis for Buck's memoir, 'Yours in the struggle,'and covers the rise of the Communist Party of Canada, Buck's relations with Communists in the Soviet Union and other places, and the denunciation of Stalin in 1956 at the 20th International Congress.

The fonds consists of Jerome Ch'en's collection of statements of delegates to the Geneva Conference in 1954 [1955?], along with newspaper clippings and related material concerning the Korean War.

The collection consists of photocopies of newspaper clippings, one audio tape cassette which contains an interview with Jules Heller, first dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at York, and three copies of the transcript of the tape.

Research files pertain to her publications and monographs such as "Defiant Sisters : A Social History of Finnish Immigrant Women in Canada, 1890-1930" (both the English and Finnish editions), and "From Heroes to Enemies : Finns in Canada, 1937-1947," as well as book chapters, articles, papers, presentations and lectures, and her involvement with the National Film Board production "Letters from Karelia," and subsequent research. The research files span the activities of Finnish and Finnish-Canadian organizations across the political spectrum, such as the Finnish Organization of Canada (left wing), and Loyal Finns in Canada (right wing). Records include oral history interviews (audio cassettes and transcripts), research notes, clippings, a significant and extensive number of photograph and letter collections passed down through generations of Finnish Canadians, diaries, correspondence, publication drafts, academic and professorial notes, microfilm of Finnish language newspapers published in Canada and archival records, financial records of Finnish-Canadian organizations such as newspapers and post-World War II relief funding bodies, scrapbooks, photocopies of rare and unusual documents such as two volumes of a Soviet register of Finnish War Crimes, a list of persons found in the mass grave at Karhumaki, and Soviet lists of North American Finns who journeyed to Karelia to help build a socialist utopia there, academic and professorial files, publicity files, files pertaining to her work with the School of Women's Studies, and her own papers as a university student. The fonds also includes letters written by Lindstrom as a newly-arrived teenaged immigrant to Canada to her best friend in Finland; many of these letters were published in Finnish with English translation in 'Letters from an immigrant teenager' in 2012.
