Files in this series consist of materials belonging to Larry Grossman’s father, Allan Grossman. The materials were kept by Larry following his father’s death on 1 Sep. 1991. Records in this series primarily document Larry Grossman’s post-political career after leaving political office in September 1987. Includes: correspondence; draft chapters and research notes for an unpublished book manuscript written by Grossman detailing his work and experiences in the Ontario government of Premier Bill Davis, from 1975-1987; assorted writings primarily opinion pieces for newspapers and a magazine article about baseball for Financial Post Magazine; meeting minutes and reports related to his role on the Board of Directors of the Canada Post Corporation and the Advisory Board of CFMT-TV; clippings and subject files; notes for remarks and speech transcripts related to his consultancy work, the Grossman Group; political briefs, reports and campaign materials for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, Liberal Party and New Democratic Party for the 1990 and 1995 general elections.

Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario files

Records in this series document Larry Grossman’s work with the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party as a member of provincial parliament and party leader. Includes: campaign materials; opposition research; polling data; policy papers; debate briefing books and research; press releases; campaign schedules/itineraries; clippings; and party convention delegate reports.

The events covered include the 1977, 1981, 1985 and 1987 Ontario general elections; Grossman’s unsuccessful campaign for leader of the party in January 1985 and his successful campaign in November 1985.

Records in this series document Grossman’s political career as a member of provincial parliament for the riding of St. Andrew-St. Patrick and Cabinet minister in the governments of Premier Bill Davis. Series also includes: notes on art history and artistic technique created by Nasato as both a student and professional artist; product catalogues and price lists; invoices and other financial documents; and other material.

Series consists of biographical and administrative records pertaining to the life and achievements of Luigi Nasato. VisionTV

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Peter Flemington as co-founder and Head of Programming and Development of VisionTV. Vision TV was the world’s first multifaith and multicultural national television channel which went on air in September 1988. Records in this series document the transition from the Canadian Interfaith Network, preparation for the successful application to the CRTC for a television license in 1987, planning for the channel’s launch in the fall of 1988 and subsequent day-to-day operations of the channel.

Includes: minutes, briefs, memos, policy documents, correspondence; programming files; CRTC applications and submissions; promotional materials including posters, press kits, viewer guides, press releases, and clippings; and files related to external partnerships and collaborations including the development of a new channel named Wisdom (“Canada’s Body, Mind, and Spirit”), later renamed ONE.

The Rosewell Group and Canadian Interfaith Network files

Series consists of records related to Peter Flemington’s work with the Rosewell Group, an independent collaboration amongst four friends (Peter Flemington, Doug Barrett, Des McCalmont, and the Hon. David MacDonald) who responded to the 1983 CRTC Call for Applications for a religious multifaith television service. Initially, their work centered on exploring the options and possible initiatives for Interchurch Communications. The Rosewell Group’s work leads to the creation of the Canadian Interfaith Network (CIN) in 1984, with the Rosewell Group continuing as the research arm of CIN to assist and guide it through the application process with the CRTC. This would lead to the creation of VisionTV in the fall of 1986.

The records in this series document the extensive preparation and research undertaken before the successful transition towards VisionTV.

Records include: meeting minutes; briefs; memos; policy and programming documents; correspondence; research notes; and CRTC applications and submissions.

Peter Flemington Broadcast Services

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Peter Flemington in his capacity as a student at the Annenberg School of Communications and as a consultant and freelance filmmaker, producer, director and broadcasting executive. Includes: coursework; workshop materials; consultancy project files; correspondence, research notes, and reports related to an application for a license at the first CRTC hearings on Pay-TV; and three DVD’s featuring highlights of his career.

Also included in this series are files related to his work with Doug Barrett on an independent brief to the CRTC suggesting a model for a multifaith television service which the CRTC could license. This brief formed the foundation for the work subsequently undertaken by the Rosewell Group and the Canadian Interfaith Network.

Berkeley Studio

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Flemington in his work with Berkeley Studio, the media production centre for the United Church of Canada. Includes: correspondence; meeting minutes; memorandums; workshop and training materials; research and production files for film projects including, “Covenant” about the 6th Assembly of the World Council of Churches, in Vancouver (1983) and “These Things We Share” (1981), a United Church of Canada national television special.

Religious Television Associates

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Flemington in his work with Religious Television Associates (RTA). RTA was founded as a production and consultation entity by the United, Anglican and Roman Catholic churches in 1964 and joined for a time – or on a per-project basis – by the Baptist, Presbyterian and Lutheran churches and other faith communities.

Records in this series include: correspondence; meeting minutes; files related to Flemington’s work as a producer on the CTV show Spectrum (1965-1968); research notes, correspondence and briefs related to RTA’s advocacy work on behalf of Interchurch Broadcasting/Interchurch Communication (ICC), including a study on cable television and community; production notes for a radio and television advertising campaign to raise funds for world development work on behalf of the Interchurch Campaign Committee; research and production files related to Flemington’s films on the topic of international development including three films about Southeast Asia for the CBC television show Man Alive: “How Long Does It Take a Tree to Grow Here? (Philippines), “No Way To Say No” (West Irian, Indonesia), and “They’ll Tell Me When the Tread’s Gone” (Malaysian territory in Borneo); research and production files for films about Japan: "Deep Currents Moving" (for the United Church of Canada) and "To Remember the Fallen" (for CBC’s Man Alive); correspondence, research notes, and draft scripts for two films about Brazil co-produced between RTA and Danchurchaid: “The Journey: From Faith to Action” and “People of No Interest”.

Also included are records related to the founding of Agency Film Seminar, an international group of filmmakers and producers for church agencies, brought together by RTA, Danchurchaid (Denmark), the World Council of Churches, and the World Association for Christian Communication. Flemington was the founding secretary/communicator.

Series consists of records documenting Abbott-Ferguson Productions projects that were not part of the Royal Canadian Air Farce series, or otherwise described in their own series, such as Dave Broadfoot projects, or XPM, or SketchCom, etc. Records pertain to miscellaneous productions both realized and proposed, for example Sports Com, 50th anniversary special, comedy homecoming, CBC comedy wall of fame, CBC comedy archive show, Comedy Classics, Mary and Michael for Global TV, King of Kensington, and miscellaneous research files.

Johnny Chase files

Johnny Chase, Secret Agent of Space was a space opera radio serial that was broadcast for two seasons on CBC Radio between 1978 to 1981. The show was set 700 years in the future, and was created by Royal Canadian Air Farce comedian Don Ferguson along with Henry Sobotka. Records include scripts, broadcast recordings, budget documentation, and promotion and ratings information.

Banana production and economic differentiation in coastal Ecuador : research materials

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Silverman as a result of field research conducted in Ecuador in 1978, part of her first sabbatical project as a professor at York University, to investigate class formation and economic differentiation amongst banana producers in coastal Ecuador. These records document the early stages of a long-term research project and provide a broad overview of production in Ecuador’s banana export sector in the 1960s and 1970s. These records are primarily government documents and Silverman’s field notes, worksheets and coding forms. Included are Ministry of Agriculture statistics about banana producers, including their names, locations, hectarages and quantity of exports, as well as agricultural census materials from 1954, 1968 and 1976, a list of banana co-operatives in Ecuador, and correspondence and other documents pertaining to the Coop Paraiso banana co-operative.

Local politics and economic change in an East Indian rice farming village (Guyana) : research materials

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Silverman primarily between 1969 and 1970, when she conducted field research in Bush Lot, Guyana, for her PhD thesis entitled “Resource change and village factionalism in an East Indian community, Guyana”. The results of this research were also published in her book, Rich people and rice: factional politics in rural Guyana, 1900-1970. This ethnographic and historical research examined local-level politics and the effect of economic resources on politics in Bush Lot, an East Indian rice-farming community on the coast of Guyana. These records document Silverman’s approach to research, which included casual conversation, participant observation, attendance at political events, formal interviews, primary source research and household surveys, and her process of aggregating the resulting data, as well as providing a comprehensive history of the village of Bush Lot and its inhabitants in the early- to mid-20th century. The records in this series are notes, copies of village council minutes and letter books, court documents, surveys and household questionnaires, government reports, census records, audio recordings, interview transcripts and notes, card indices and computer printouts, research reports, maps of Bush Lot and greater Guyana, correspondence, and a copy of Silverman’s PhD dissertation.

Deviancy and peer groups in a mining enclave (Guyana) : research materials

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Silverman in Guyana in 1966 while working on her MA thesis, entitled “Deviance and conformity in a Caribbean mining town”, which explored male juvenile delinquency in the bauxite mining town of Mackenzie (now Linden). These records document Silverman’s research methods and the aggregation of data acquired. Records include police and probation records, field and interview notes, reports, completed questionnaires, card indices, crime and employment statistics, an aerial photograph of Mackenzie, a research proposal, copies of Silverman’s completed thesis, and audio recordings of interviews.

Dalcroze Eurhythmics teaching and other materials

Series consists of materials related to Madeleine Boss Lasserre’s career and interests as a music educator of children and adults in Toronto, Ontario. Most of the material was created between 1925 and 1977, while Lasserre was actively employed with the Margaret Eaton School and the Toronto Conservatory of Music. A small subset of the records were created outside of this time period. Records include: Dalcroze teaching and demonstration notes and diagrams; correspondence with colleagues and students; material pertaining to general early childhood education; and material related to the administration and promotion of courses in Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Series contains notes and notebooks, pamphlets, programmes, correspondence, and clippings, as well as photographs of Lasserre and other members of the Dalcroze and music communities.

Dance, theatre and performing arts programs and flyers

Series consists of dance, theatre, music and other performing arts programs, brochures, flyers, magazines, and newsletters collected by Selma Odom from 1972 to 2008. Materials represent dance performances, events, and venues primarily in North America and Europe, with strong representation of the Toronto dance scene.

Audiovisual materials

Series consists of moving image recordings accumulated by Gerber. These materials are primarily clips of major 20th century news events as well as CBC television programs on which Gerber worked as a producer. Also included is an audio cassette of a Marshall McLuhan interview.

Training materials

Series consists of textual records and audiovisual materials pertaining to Gerber’s work as a trainer and educator in television journalism and production for the CBC Training and Development Department and for Ryerson University’s School of Journalism. Subject areas taught include investigative journalism, reporting for television, and television documentary. Included in this series are CBC training manuals, Gerber’s course lecture notes, handouts and outlines, and videocassettes containing sample news footage and clips, mostly from the CBC, used in his training sessions and courses. Lecture notes from talks given by Gerber as a guest speaker and/or workshop leader are also part of the series.

Department of Political Science files

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Janice Newton in the course of her administrative duties in the Department of Political Science at York University. Records include notes, correspondence, minutes and agendas, proposals, and other documents created as a result of her position on various departmental committees. Series also includes anonymous surveys completed by third-year Political Science students as part of a study administered by Newton, graduate and undergraduate supplemental calendars, and miscellaneous reports and publications created by members of the department.

Pedagogical research and publication files

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Janice Newton as a result of her involvement with the York Assessment Forum and as chief editor of the anthology Voices from the Classroom: Reflections on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (Garamond, 2001). Records include reports, minutes, correspondence, and other administrative and planning documents. Records also include teaching surveys completed by York faculty members, as well as notes, audio recordings, video recordings, and transcriptions created as a result of faculty focus groups organized and administered by Newton.

Feminist Challenge files

Series consists of records created by Janice Newton while completing her PhD research at York University and, later, adapting her dissertation into the 1995 monograph The Feminist Challenge to the Canadian Left, 1900-1918 (McGill-Queen's University Press). The records include research notes, correspondence, photocopies of primary source materials, lecture notes, scrapbooks, photographic prints and negatives, and an audio interview with Mary Ford, niece of Mary Cotton Wisdom.

Research index cards

Series consists of index cards created by Janice Newton while conducting graduate research at York University. These cards were likely repurposed and augmented as she later adapted her PhD dissertation into a monograph. They contain biographical information on individuals, primarily women, who were active on the political left circa 1892 to 1920, as well as miscellaneous research notes, bibliographical references, and correspondence.

Toronto Telegram scrapbooks and clippings

Series consists of scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, and printed materials. The scrapbooks are of three types. The fist is a collection of large scrapbooks, approximately 220 in total, that consists of copies of the Toronto Telegram and it's predecessor, The Evening Telegram. These scrapbooks are divided into several categories of material: "Advertising and promotion", "Circulation and Carriers", "Clubs", "Contests", "Events", "Daily and Weekly Features" (such as "schooner Days by C.H.J. Snider); "General Clippings", "News Features" (which include royal visits); "Outdoor Activities"; photo albums of high profile personalities such as royalty and politicians; "Sports", "Theatre and Opera", as wella s feature columns and programs run by the The Globe and Mail and The Toronto Star.
The second group is a collection of scrapbooks and editorials and contests of the Telegram and its rivals, The Toronto Star and The Toronto Globe and Mail. The scrapbooks consists of Toronto Telegram editorians (1962-1967), Globe & Mail editorials (1961-1970) and Toronto Star editorials (1940-1968). There are also indexes to Star editorials, scrapbooks concerning the Star's Santa Claus Fund (1923-1960) and the Star's Fresh Air Fund.
Finally, there are two moderately sized collections of scrapbooks. The first consists of four books, covering the Toronto Transit Commission (1950-1970), and the second covers the canals of the St.Lawrence River (1910-1939).

The newspaper clippings are divided into two broad areas: Personalities, and Subjects. These consists of clippings from the Telegram arranged alphabetically by personality name, including such people as Winston Churchill, Henry Fort, Mitchell Hepburn, and Nellie McClung; and subjects, ranging from Abortion to Medicine and Australia to Japan. Both groups of files are complete only to the letter "M" (the remaining files do not appear to have been transferred to the archives).
The printed material consists of accompanying material removed from the files of photoprints from the 1987-001 accession. It contains information about the subjects of the photos they were separated from and are cross-referenced with those print files.

Toronto Telegram personality prints

Series consists of a series of photographic prints, news clippings and printed illustrations of individuals whose likeness was published in the Toronto Telegram. This could include birth, death, marriage, graduation announcements, as well as individuals documented by the newspaper at local events, celebrations, and political, social and organizational activities. Individuals can be ordinary citizens, celebrities, politicians, criminals, socialites, scientists, military personnel, nurses and medical staff, social workers, members of fraternal organizations, clergy and religious, social activists, protesters and others.

Audiovisual materials

Series consists of video recordings of Maguire’s dancing and choreography, as well as audio recordings of the accompanying music used in rehearsal and performance.

Memorabilia and photographs

Series consists of photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings, posters, performance notices and programmes, newsletters, certificates, press releases, CVs and biographies pertaining to Maguire’s career as a dancer, choreographer and teacher.

Inde Festival files

Series pertains to the organization and development of the Inde Festival of New Music and Dance, which was created in 1985 by Maguire and ran until 1992. These records include correspondence, financial statements, photographs, press releases, programmes, grant applications, proposals, contracts, notes and promotional materials. Also included in this series are administrative files pertaining to Maguire’s subsequent organization, Inde Multidisciplinary Arts Projects.

Project files

Series consists of records pertaining to Maguire’s activities as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and arts organizer. These records, which include grant applications, photographs, letters of agreement, correspondence, proposals and notes, document Maguire’s work as an instructor in dance in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the York University, her independent choreography and dance projects, and her involvement with community arts education and dance instruction.

Series consists of correspondence received by Maguire pertaining primarily to her involvement in dance-related projects and dance performances.

Day planners

Series consists of day planners maintained by Maguire pertaining to her personal and professional activities. Also part of this series is an address book.

Marshall McLuhan files

This series consists of correspondence, contracts, notes, drafts, clippings, offprints, photographs, and ephemera created and accumulated by CSWS Ltd. as agents of Marshall McLuhan and his estate. CSWS Ltd. began representing Marshall McLuhan around 1970.

The records in this series document the close working relationship and friendship between Matie Molinaro and the McLuhan family (especially her friendship with his spouse Corinne McLuhan) in managing Marshall McLuhan’s legacy, “brand”, and the rights to his work subsequent to his death in December 1980.

Files from accession 1990-018 include: correspondence of Marshall McLuhan, which was utilized in a published correspondence volume, edited by his wife Corinne and Matie Molinaro, “Letters of Marshall McLuhan” (Toronto: Oxford University Press, 1987); galleys of McLuhan works ('Laws of the media,'); correspondence and reports of the Centre for Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto; lecture invitations; various television and film proposals, scripts, and related correspondence, as well as material about McLuhan (books, articles, newspaper clippings, etc), and the 'Management game,' which includes a sample deck of cards used in the game as well as orders for the game.

Files from accessions 2010-040 and 2012-066 include: public appearance requests; requests for permission to cite and republish the work of McLuhan; research material and drafts for the book, “Letters of Marshall McLuhan” (Toronto: Oxford University Press, 1987); correspondence and reports related to the preparation, negotiations and acquisition of the McLuhan Papers by the Public Archives of Canada in 1984; correspondence with communication scholars and co-authors of works with Marshall McLuhan, including Bruce R. Powers, Barrington Nevitt, and W. Terrence Gordon; reprint agreement in 2001 and related correspondence with Mo Cohen of Gingko Press of Berkeley, California which led to renewed interest in Marshall McLuhan’s work; correspondence related to the planning of the Toronto International McLuhan Festival of the Future in 2004.

Also included are files about several members of the McLuhan family, including Elsie McLuhan (mother), Corinne McLuhan, and children Eric, Michael, Teri, and Mary.

This series consists of records relating to CSWS Ltd. founder Matie Molinaro. The records in this series provide insight into Molinaro’s early life growing up in New York, her student days at Barnard College, and her work as a war correspondent during the Second World War. Files include: correspondence (inquiries, invitations); union files (ACTRA, Writers Guild of Canada, Writers Guild of America); template contracts/agreements for writers, actors, and speakers; mailing lists; information about conferences, seminars and book fairs; and subject and clippings files, primarily on the topic of copyright.

Also included are the office’s Diaries and Day Books from 1951-1965, which provide a daily record of incoming and outgoing correspondence, phone calls, and notes about day-to-day business.

This series consists of files created and accumulated by CSWS Ltd. about agency clients and prospective clients enquiring about the agency’s services. Memorabilia

Series consists of newspaper and magazine clippings, journal articles, certificates, transcripts, conference programmes, posters and notices, sheet music and flyers. These records pertain to Mandel’s academic and other career accomplishments, his teaching at Osgoode Hall Law School, his writing and the publication of his books, his political activism, as well as his personal life, including written tributes to his parents and his activities as a singer and performer of opera and Yiddish music.

Activism files

Series consists of files pertaining to Mandel’s work as a political activist. These records document the nature and breadth of Mandel’s involvement with issues including prison reform, abortion rights, the US invasion of Nicaragua, Israel and Palestine, the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Mandel’s advocacy work as a lawyer and his involvement with legal cases and submissions to boards of inquiry and/or commissions are also documented in this series. Series consists of correspondence sent and received by Mandel pertaining to a wide variety of topics, but it primarily concerns his professional life, including his writing, political activism and media appearances. Subseries consists of course materials, mainly course readings but also lecture notes, examination papers, syllabi and course descriptions, created and/or used by Mandel for his courses taught at Osgoode Hall Law School. Some materials pertaining to courses taught by Mandel in the Political Science department at McMaster University and at the University of Bologna are also included in this subseries.

Administrative files

Files in this subseries primarily consist of correspondence and memoranda created and/or acquired by Mandel in his role as a professor and administrator at Osgoode Hall Law School. These records pertain to Mandel’s teaching load and academic work, Osgoode administrative subjects, and his involvement with Osgoode’s Italian law course and exchange program with the University of Bologna. Many of the correspondence files in this series also include letters concerning Mandel’s non-academic activities, including his writing and activism pertaining to prison reform and anti-war campaigns. Series consists of records pertaining to Mandel’s activities during his tenure as a professor at York University’s Osgoode Hall Law School from 1974 to 2013.

Writing and related files

Series consists of pre-publication or draft versions of writing by Mandel for academic periodicals, newspapers and magazines, conferences, public lectures and speeches, on a wide variety of legal and political topics, particularly constitutional law, prison reform, and Canadian and international politics. Included in this series are reference materials and notebooks, as well as scripts co-written with Harry J. Glasbeek for their radio program, “A taste of justice”, and scripts and transcripts pertaining to Mandel’s contributions to a 1983 CBC Radio “Ideas” program.

Remembrance files

Series consists of correspondence relating to Hans Mohr’s death, photographs of his personal library, a collection of poems entitled Memento mori: paintings and poetry published after Mohr’s death, and a book of friends and family’s notes from the funerals of Hans and Ingeborg Mohr.

Audio recordings

Series consists of audio recordings released as part of the Recorded Archives Taping Series, produced by the League of Canadian Poets, featuring readings by 25 prominent Canadian poets. Also included are audio recordings of Hutchman’s interviews conducted with the Canadian poets who are featured in his non-fiction book, In the Writers' Words: Conversations with Eight Canadian Poets, as well as interviews he conducted as research for his book of poetry, Emery.

Memorabilia

Series consists of materials accumulated by Hutchman primarily pertaining to his early life, family, travels and career as a poet. These records include an award certificate, posters and notices for his poetry readings, newspaper and magazine clippings featuring his published poems, essays and reviews about his work, notes from presentations given, ephemera, and copies of publishers’ catalogues featuring his books. Included in this series are personal photographs of Hutchman, his family and friends, as well as other poets and writers.

Series consists of notes, notebooks, essays, bibliographies, reading lists and correspondence, created and/or used by Hutchman during his years as an undergraduate and graduate student. Included in this series are multiple drafts of his MA thesis and PhD dissertation, some of which feature the comments of advisors Richard Sommer and Henry Beissel (MA) and Hugh Hood (PhD). Also part of this series are materials pertaining to Hutchman’s work as a professor of English, including correspondence, lecture notes, mark books, and administrative materials concerning his employment and career at the Université de Moncton.

Series primarily consists of incoming correspondence to Hutchman from friends, colleagues, publishers and other writers. Correspondents include Margaret Avison, Brian Bartlett, Clark Blaise, Robert Bly, Roo Borson, Fred Cogswell, Barry Dempster, Louis Dudek, Gary Geddes, Ralph Gustafson, Don Hensley, George Johnston, P.K. Page, Al Purdy, James Reaney, and many others. A number of these letters concern interviews conducted by Hutchman with prominent Canadian poets, later published in his non-fiction book, In the Writers' Words: Conversations with Eight Canadian Poets. Manuscripts and other writing

Series consists of notebooks, notes, research materials, draft poems, manuscripts and proofs pertaining to the writing and publication of Hutchman’s books of poetry. Samples of his early and/or unpublished writing are also part of the series, as are a number of poetry translations by Hutchman. Works of poetry documented in this series are Explorations (1975), Voices in the Wind (1979), Blue Riders (1985), Foreign National (1993), Emery (1998), Beyond Borders (2000), Selected Poems (2007), Reading the Water (2008), and Personal Encounters (2014) . Morley Callaghan files

Series consists of records pertaining to the writing of Morley Callaghan, particularly his short non-fiction writing, collected and re-published by Barry Callaghan in the Exile Editions monograph, A Literary Life : Reflections and Reminiscences 1928-1990 (2009). These records include newspaper clippings, short stories published in magazines and photocopies of radio scripts written by Morley from the 1930s to the 1980s, as well as word-processed copies of these materials, edited by Barry. Photocopies of the original typescripts for Morley's early unpublished novel, The Imposters, and for many of his short stories are part of the series, as are a manuscript for his novel, A Passion in Rome, and page proofs for an Exile Editions reprint of A Time for Judas.

Audiovisual materials

Series consists of audio recordings of Callaghan's interviews for CBC radio and television, literary readings by Callaghan and Exile Editions author Sean Virgo, as well as a discussion between Callaghan and writer Joyce Carol Oates for the 2002 International Festival of Authors in Toronto.

Manuscripts

Series consists of manuscripts and page proofs pertaining to Callaghan's published monographs Beside Still Waters (a re-write of his first novel, The Way the Angel Spreads her Wings), Between Trains, Raise You Ten, and Raise You Twenty. Files pertaining to a writing collaboration with Joe Rosenblatt are also part of this series, as well as scripts for a CBC Television drama, "The man in the tin canoe".

Journalism files

Series consists of records pertaining to Callaghan's work as a print and television journalist in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly his writing for the "Toronto Telegram" as the paper's literary editor. Files in this series include annotated copies of published articles, draft manuscripts, notes, annotated typescripts and research materials pertaining to his writing about authors including Margaret Laurence, Edmund Wilson, Irving Layton, Yehuda Amichai, Saul Bellow and many others. Also included in this series are examples of Callaghan's travel writing from the 1980s, interview transcripts from his work on CBC Television's "Show on Shows", and scripts pertaining to his work for CBC Radio. Most of the records in this series have been annotated and edited by Callaghan for re-publication in his three books of collected non-fiction writing, Raise You Five (2006), Raise You Ten (2007) and Raise You Twenty (2011) .

Correspondence

File consists of correspondence sent and received by Callaghan, including a great deal of printed e-mail correspondence, exchanged with fellow writers, friends and colleagues.

Early education and literary files

Files in this series consist of Callaghan's research notes, some of his student papers and resource materials used in preparation for his graduate school comprehensive examinations at the University of Toronto in the mid-1960s.

Academic files of Hans Mohr

Series consists of article, reports, lectures, and presentations written by Mohr throughout his career on topics such as psychiatry, mental health, homosexuality, family equality, children's rights, sentencing, criminology, criminal law, legal reform, legal education, and sociology, as well as copies of his book reviews. Many of his articles are original annotated drafts, final editions or in offprint format. Series includes seminar papers on his course about structuralism, his course "Sociology 92-456 : The sociology of law," "Law 324 : Children and the law," his seminar on "Theory and empiricism in law," and his graduate seminar "Legal research, policy and reform." Series also includes evaluations written in 1981 by students in courses "Social foundations of law" and "Law and psychiatry." In addition, series includes drafts of conference papers and articles written by friends and colleagues such as Peter Fitzpatrick, Harry W. Arthurs, Roderick A. Macdonald, Kurt Wolff, and Marie Andree Bertrand. Some of these drafts have annotations made by Mohr. Series also includes: offprints inscribed to Mohr by friends and colleagues such as Alan Hunt, Douglas Hay and Charles David Axelrod; newspaper articles about Mohr and his work with law, psychiatry, sentencing, criminal law, and law reforms; and a collection of research articles on similar topics.

Personal files of Hans Mohr

Series consists of greeting cards, postcards, correspondence, personal notebooks, photographs and a guestbook from Ingeborg's art exhibits. Greeting cards express holiday and birthday messages, in addition to remarks on Mohr's 50th wedding anniversary and condolences on Ingeborg's death in 2004. The postcards were sent to Mohr from family and friends with images of European cities such as Dresden, Vienna, Edinburgh, Paris, and Athens, as well as Canadian cities such as Montreal and Vancouver. In addition, the series includes two handwritten personal notebooks by Mohr in German from the 1950s, two notebooks of early poetry, and handwritten correspondence between Mohr and his friends from when he travelled to Canada.

Series consists of certificates of appreciation and membership from organizations such as The National Organization of Child Care Worker Associations Inc., The Christian Festival, The Board of Governors of Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, The Coalition for Gun Control, the Canadian Criminal Justice Association, and a certificate of appreciation from the African National Congress signed by Nelson R. Mandela in 1995. Series includes reports, meeting minutes, research updates, memoranda, notes and articles from organizations such as the Vanier Institute of the Family, the Law Commission of Canada, the Round Table on Citizen Agency, Big Brothers of Canada, and the Church Council on Justice and Corrections, as well as correspondence between officials of the institutions and Mohr. Included in the series is the report, "Restorative justice discussion paper" from 1999, and a signed letter from Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau acknowledging receipt of Mohr's paper, "The politics of the family and the family in politics."

"The Truth shows up" research files

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Harvey Cashore and used in the writing of his 2010 book, "The Truth shows up : a reporter's fifteen-year odyssey tracking down the truth about Mulroney, Schreiber and the Airbus scandal." These records, organized and interfiled by date, document the extent and scope of Cashore's research into the Airbus affair which began while he worked in Ottawa as the research associate to investigative journalist John Sawatsky during the 1980s, and continued into the 1990s and 2000s while authoring two books on the Airbus affair and producing several award-winning documentaries on this topic for the CBC's "The Fifth Estate" television program. The series includes: records pertaining to the activities and finances of German businessman Karlheinz Schreiber and his accountant, Giorgio Pelossi; a complete record of Schreiber's Zurich bank accounts, including code-names and rubriks, into which millions of dollars of secret Airbus commissions flowed in and out; Schreiber's personal handwritten daytimers from 1987 to 1996 describing key players in the affair and meetings in Canada and Germany; hundreds of interviews with politicians, bureaucrats, air industry executives, "spin doctors," and other insiders, accompanied by verbatim transcripts; a meticulous record of dozens of interviews with Karlheinz Schreiber conducted over 12 years; documents from a lawsuit brought by Schreiber against Cashore and the CBC in 1996 and 1999 (Schreiber would later pay CBC's legal costs); records pertaining to former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's 1996 lawsuit against the Canadian government; and testimony from the 2007 House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics and the 2009 Oliphant Commission. The files in this series include correspondence, memoranda, research notes and chronologies, interview notes and transcripts, government documents obtained through access to information requests, court documents and transcripts, newspaper and magazine articles, photographs, and audio cassettes. Also included in the series are manuscripts for "The Truth shows up."

SketchCom productions

SketchCom was a project developed by Abbott and Ferguson to provide opportunities to promising new comedians and comedy troupes to develop and broadcast their work with the assistance of experienced and successful mentors. The SketchCom series was broadcast on the CBC network during 1998-1999. New comedic talent included several persons who went on to national prominence including Shaun Majumder, Gavin Crawford, and Bob Martin. Records include creative and production files, contracts, sketch ideas, audio/visual recordings of the productions, etc.

Non-Air Farce - XPM

Series consists of records documenting a proposed sitcom project about a former Prime Minister to be played by Don Ferguson. Records include the project proposal, contracts and budget documentation, press, publicity and audience test information, outline, pilot and scripts, as well as videotapes of the first two episodes that were shot. The project was subsequently shelved.

Air Farce - memorabilia and merchandise

Series consists of memorabilia such as iconic costumes, plaques and awards, and merchandise items created for Abbott-Ferguson Productions including videocassettes, DVDs, t-shirts and other apparel, etc. For audio-visual and audio elements, such as master recordings, see S00616 and S00617.

Air Farce - business and legal files

Series consists of contracts, financial records, creative side records for home videos, files pertaining to merchandising, legal records documenting the battle with the CRTC about whether Air Farce could be included in Newsworld broadcasts (1995-1997); the discussions between Abbott-Ferguson Productions and the potential move to the CTV network, the Baton - Comedy Channel application, books about Air Farce, etc.

Series consists of records pertaining to gigs outside the regular broadcast season. For example, Live at the Bayview; stage show scripts; "symphony show" files including orchestral scores; tribute events; Farce Stage tour, etc.

Air Farce - A/V recordings

Series consists of audio-visual recordings and some audio elements of television episodes in various formats. Records include tape inventories, rundowns and cue sheets. The series also includes recordings pertaining to specials, video yearbooks, Live at the Bayview, the Comedy channel, etc.
