Fonds consists of material that documents Pitman’s career as a politician, educator, writer and social activist. It includes personal and professional correspondence, notes and speech materials, newspaper clippings and other material related to his years spent as a Member of Provincial Parliament and as a Member of Parliament as well as his unsuccessful leadership campaign for the federal New Democratic Party in 1971. It also includes his Toronto Star writing files, numerous files pertaining to his education activities both at the provincial and federal levels with a special emphasis on arts education, records that document his tenure as President of Ryerson Polytechnic University, his activities as chairman of Project Ploughshares, his work with the Arts Education Institute of Ontario, as well as an extensive collection of notes, drafts and final copies of speeches delivered by Pitman to a variety of organizations including Elderhostel. The fonds includes correspondence, notes, interview notes, drafts and research material related to his books on Louis Applebaum, Elmer Iseler, the lives of Harry Freedman and Mary Morrison, and Victor Feldbrill, as well as notes and drafts of his as yet unpublished book, "Breakthrough: A Canada For The Twenty-First Century."

Wallich, writing from 466 Cass Avenue, Detroit Michigan, responding to Welby's article "Meaning and Metaphor" published in the July 1893 issue of "Monist." Wallich requests pamphlets which Welby offered to interesed readers in the article.

File consists of folder of handwritten and typed correspondence, as well as transcribed excerpts, between Welby and Dr. Augustus Waller and his wife Alice M. Waller. Topics include: "sense"; theology and spiritual life; the division between physics and metaphysics; discipline of physiology; the physical basis of dream; theories of Victor Horsley, Ziehen, Wundt, Weissmann and Haeckel; writings of Mr. Wallace, Mr. Crookes and Mr. Galton; ex-citation the call from without; Quakerism; agnosticism; religion and science; protoplasm and excitability; Welby's suggestion Waller speak to Professor Karl Pearson; Waller's opinions of Welby's neice who also persues physiological studies;. Also includes a handwritten outline of a work focused on sense, meaning and significance, as well as typed and handwritten notes on Waller's writing, including two copies of 10 page typed response to Wall'ers paper on Analogy between Reflex in Logical Procecnes. Includes a handwritten summary of the nature of their correspondence. The Wallers write from: Weston Lodge 16 Grove End Road, N.W., Dixcart's Hotel, Lark, Channel Islands, Marlston House, Newbury, and the Physiological Laboratory at the University of London. It appears that Welby visited them sometime in 1889, again in July 1892. The Wallers visited Denton in 1892.
