Timeline: Greek Community of Toronto 1909-2009 Women's Issues 1994-2009

File consists of a bound report, “Report on the Hellenic Women’s Issues and Concerns Survey, 1995” prepared by the Department of Women’s Issues, Greek Community of Metropolitan Toronto Inc., and a copy of an event program for an event titled “Breaking Through the Glass Ceiling/ Τ’Αδυνατα Δυνατα” that took place on June 18, 2006.

File consists of Greek-language newspapers, including the March 31 1992 issue of the Palamos Kefalonias-Ithacas (Παλαμος Κεφαλονιας-Ιθακης) , the June 10 1992 issue of the Hellenic-Canadian Chronicals (ΕΛΛΗΝΟΚΑΝΑΔΙΚΑ ΧΡΟΝΙΚΑ), and the October 31 1991 issue of the Nea Kefalonika (ΝΕΑ ΚΕΦΑΛΟΝΙΑ).

Newsclippings and photograph

File consists of a photograph of Cephalonica-Ithaca Association Members marching in the OXI Day Parade on the Danforth in 1978. File also contains a variety of newspaper clippings, including a brief article in the Toronto Star issued October 18 1982 on the (then) Greek President Constantine Karamanlis’ visit to Toronto. The rest of the newspaper clippings are from Greek-language community newspapers documenting activities of the Association. These newspapers include: Ελληνοκαναδικο ΒΗΜΑ/Ellinokanadiko Vyma (dated 17 November 1994); XRONIKA/ Chronika (dated 2 February 1994 and January 10 1996), and Εβδομαδα/Evdomada (dated 23 March 2001).

Cephalonica-Ithaca Association of Toronto general files

File consists of incoming correspondence from St. Irene Christovalantou Greek Orthodox Church and the Olympic Flame Soccer Club, meeting notes from the Greek Community of Metropolitan Toronto Association Committee (dated 1987), event programs and invitations for events hosted by the Cephalonica-Ithaca Association as well as associated event planning notes and ephemera, including accounting statements and contracts with external vendors. File further consists of outgoing correspondence to Cephalonica-Ithaca Association members, including correspondence that was returned to sender, a copy of the Association’s constitution with annotations, as well as membership lists and contact information. File also contains a pamphlet from the village of Arginia in Kefalonia on the phenomenon of snakes visiting the village’s church annually in the month of August leading up to the Dormition of the Mother of God. File also contains drafts of plaques that were presented to students honouring their scholastic achievements likely presented at events hosted by the Association. File also contains two thank-you cards to the Association thanking them for gifts.

File further consists of correspondence with Greek political figures, including Panagis Benetatos (Member of Parliament for Kefalonias-Ithakis) , Nikolaos Kon. Frantzis, President of the community of Metaxata, and Marianna Vallianou, President of the Cultural Commitee of the community of Metaxata. File also includes copies of outgoing correspondence from the Cephalonia-Ithaca Association of Toronto to Association members, as well as an invitation to a member that was returned to sender.

File consists of event contracts, event planning notes, and invitations for New Year’s Eve parties hosted by the Cephalonia-Ithaca Association of Toronto. File also contains programs and invitations for events hosted by the House of Kefalos Greek-American Society of Kefalonians & Ithacans in Maryland, including for an event where members of the Cephalonia-Ithaca Association of Toronto were guests for an event regarding the unification of the SevenIslands with Greece.

Correspondence, certificates to association members from local Member of Parliament

File consists of certificates of recognition to various members of the Cephalonia-Ithaca Association of Toronto from former MP John Cannis, as well as incoming correspondence regarding earthquake relief efforts for the Cephalonia earthquake. There is also correspondence from the Hellenic Home for the Aged asking for donations to the nursing home. There is also a copy of a text on the different municipalities on the island of Cephalonia.

Includes letters from the Greek-Canadian Cultural Association, The Consulate-General of Greece, the Hellenic Canadian Professionals and Businessmen’s Association, the Greek Community of Metropolitan Toronto, and other regional associations and societies. Also includes correspondence from the Toronto and District Liberal Association, the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and from political campaigns for Greek-Canadian candidates. There is also correspondence from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Toronto.

Egypt's Migrants in the Gulf

File consists of oral histories that explore the motivations, journey, challenges, and settlement of Egypt’s migrants in Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Alya Osman conducted the oral histories which sought the perspectives of first-generation immigrants from urban centers across Egypt who migrated in the second half of the 20th century.

File consists of oral histories that explore explored the motivations, journey, challenges, and settlement of Armenian, Italian, Jewish, Muslim, and Coptic individuals in Brazil. Interviewees are first-generation immigrants from urban centers across Egypt who migrated in the second half of the 20th century. Interviews conducted by Diogo Bercito, a doctoral student at Georgetown University who joined Egypt Migrations as a summer intern in June 2021.
