Biographical history

Jeniva Berger, theatre critic, received a M.A. in Drama from the University of Toronto and has been reviewing theater in the Toronto area for a variety of publications. She was the Founding President of the Canadian Theatre Critics Association and is still involved with the Association as Chair of the annual Nathan Cohen Award for Excellence in Theatre Criticism. Her work on multicultural theatre in Canada has been published in the “Canadian Encyclopedia”, the “Oxford Companion to Canadian Drama” and “Contemporary Canadian Theatre” (1985).

Scope and content

The collection consists of programmes, playbills and notices of productions in Ontario (predominantly Toronto) theatres, 1971-1983, arranged alphabetically by the title of the production. Some of the companies and theatres represented include, Toronto Arts Productions, Stratford Theatre, Skylight Theatre, Toronto Workshop Productions, Toronto Free Theatre, Royal Alex Theatre, Theatre Aquarius, National Arts Centre (Ottawa), Lime Light Dinner Theatre, Theatre in the Dell, Young People’s Theatre, Shaw Festival, and Theatre Passe Muraille.
