The fonds mainly consists of research files, photocopies and microfilm reels of archival documents from American and European archives related to Michael Hans Kater's work on Nazi Germany including publications such as his dissertation SS-Ahnenerbe, and books Doctors Under Hitler and Different Drummers: Jazz in the Culture of Nazi Germany; professorial files (such as lecture notes and course evaluations).

Accessions 1994-022 and 1995-024 are closed until 1 January 2005. Researchers must obtain written permission from Prof. Michael H. Kater to gain access to this material. For accessions 1998-047, 2000-010 and 2000-073, access is available during the donor's lifetime only after prior authorization by the donor.
