ελληνικός ήλιος = Greek Sun: Greek Canadian Review

File consists of two issues of ελληνικός ήλιος = Greek Sun: Greek Canadian Review (Toronto), Issue 6, November 1980 and Issue 14, July 1981. Greek Sun is a collection of newsclips copied and pasted from Athenian newspapers and reproduced in this publication alongside advertisements for Toronto businesses. The issues include references to Koula Kalogeropoulos (July 1981)and Koula Papadakis (November 1980)

File consists of newspapers containing articles about cultural and political events relating to the Greek Canadian community in Canada. File includes student newspapers from York University, Scarborough College and the University of Toronto; community newspapers from Toronto East; and entertainment listings from the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star, including an article about the Trojan Horse.

Toronto English language magazines

File consists of two issues of Toronto Calendar Magazine, which contain articles about The Trojan Horse (pp. 34-35) and the Greek restaurant scene, and an issue of Toronto Life magazine containing an article about the Companeros.

Ta Nea = A Greek-Canadian Bi-monthly Review (Toronto). (2 of 2)

File consists of issues of Ta Nea, a newspaper to which Papadatos contributed. Ta Nea was published by Dimitrius Aivalis, owner of Deca printing house. Deca printed many of the materials (publications and promotional materials such as flyers and posters) relating to the Greek-Canadian community, thus providing considerable support to the community and the anti-dictatorship movement in Toronto.. Songs of Struggle – Compañeros and other resistance songbooks

File consists of Songs of Struggle, a songbook of Greek and Latin American songs of resistance edited and translated by George Papadatos, as well as Canciones de la Resistencia Popular Chilena (a booklet of Chilean resistance songs) and Dedicado a Mi Pais by Compañeros lead singer, Marcelo Puente.

Scrapbook re. Trojan Horse coffee house

File consists of assortment of news clippings, photographs and ephemera documenting Papadatos' activities as co-owner (with Kosmas Marinatos) of the Trojan Horse Cafe (located at 179 Danforth Avenue) including legal documents regarding the purchase, mortgage and sale of the property.

Publications, Greek language and culture education in Toronto

File consists of a booklet promoting the Modern Greek Language Programme at University of Toronto, an analysis of the Greek language curriculum for public schools by the Greek Community of Metropolitan Toronto, ΝΕΟΙ ΟΡΙΖΟΝΤΕΣ (an educational review), and a booklet from the Lyceum of Folklore Studies.

Programmes for theatrical productions

File consists of theatre programmes including the Greek Student Theatre production of Toromeiko in Toronto, May 1976 (first performed in Montreal, 1973), a Toronto performance of an adaptation of Gogol’s The Diary of a Madman in Greek (1979), and ΕΝΑΣ ΕΛΛΗΝ ΣΤΗΝΟΝ ΤΑΒΛΑ a theatrical satire about the Greek Community (Toronto, 1983).

Posters for political and cultural events

File consists of various posters relating to Greek cultural and political events, predominantly musical performances (many at coffee houses such as The Trojan Horse, Lyra and Esperides), but also including theatrical performances, events organized by political organizations, such as EAM, and exhibitions. Some of the posters have annotations overleaf (which appear to be event set lists or table plans). Includes posters for musicians such as Manos Loizos, the Companeros, Marcelo Puente (poster is inscribed to George Papadatos) and Maria Farantouri (the concert tour of North America presented by Sotos Kappas). File also includes poster advertising Papadatos’ weekly newspaper, Metanastis, a reproduction of a political poster featuring a quote by Aggelos Sikelianos and posters for the 1980 University of Toronto event “Images of Modern Greece”, organized by Papadatos.

File consists of pamphlets and newsletters produced by various political and cultural organizations, mostly within Canada, including the KKE (Communist Party of Greece), the Greek Democratic Association, Concordia University Greek Students Association, the Greek Cultural Association (Chicago), including a booklet of a speech by George Papadopoulos. File includes a satirical newsletter, το λάχανο/η λαχαγιs

Photostatic reproductions related to Greek anti-dictatorship movement

File consists of reproductions of illustrations, articles and posters (some with handwritten annotations in Greek) related to the Greek anti-dictatorship movement in New York and Canada, collected by George Papadatos for various uses in the Toronto Greek community. For example, see 2014-044/001(01) for a reproduction of the “Down with junta” image incorporated in a concert programme cover.

Photographs of political demonstrations, PAK events and other Toronto Greek community events

File consists of photographic prints of Toronto political demonstrations organized by PAK and other anti-dictatorship groups and relating to peace and democracy in Greece, including the July 17, 1982 demonstration at Toronto City Hall (relating to the invasion of Cyprus). File also includes photographs of other Greek community events and activities in Toronto, such as parades, dinners, dances, sporting events and concerts. File also includes some photocopies

File consists of photographic prints of various Toronto Greek community events including dinners, dances, musical performances, political events (attendees include Bob Rae and Lynn McDonald), a film crew at a Greek print shop, the entrance to the LYRA Coffee House and other Danforth locations. Includes images of George Papadatos speaking on stage at what appears to be an event celebrating publication of his anthology of music and poetry: Anthologio antistasiakēs technēs. File also includes a photograph of politician Bob Rae signed to “The readers of “EVDOMADA” and the people of Broadview.”

MNHMH ΑΝΔΡΕΑ ΠΑΠΑΝΔΡΕΟΥ 1964-1981

File consists of a copy of “Memory of Andreas Papandreou” a publication produced in conjunction with an exhibition (at Zappeio Megara June 22-30, 1998) commemorating the accomplishments of Papandreou from his entry into politics in 1964 to PASOK’s victory in 1981. George Papadatos is noted as a contributor of archival material to the exhibition.

Mikis Theodorakis sheet music

File consists of sheet music by Mikis Theodorakis with bound copies of Arcadia I-V and Arcadia VII, and photocopies of Arcadia II, III and VI as well as Chansons de la Patrie Amere, Etat de Siege and Notre Soeur Athina. The music of Theodorakis was banned in Greece under the Junta.

Manos Loizos North American tour. Photographs

File predominantly consists of photographs of the first North American concert tour by Manos Loizos, mostly shots of musicians onstage as well as some general on tour photographs, including in New York, Chicago and Toronto (Danforth Music Hall and Titania). Also includes photographs of Loizos arriving at Toronto International airport. File also includes photographs and photocopies showing various community and political events.

File consists of posters for musical concerts (Niko Xilouri and Quilapayun) and political events: “Workers League Young Socialists: 60 Years Since the Russian Revolution” and ”Commemoration of the events of the Greek Polytechnical School organized by the Hellenic Stud. Assoc. of U.W.O.”

Journalism and writing. Handwritten drafts and notes

File consists of writing by George Papadatos, likely first drafts and notes pertaining to his journalistic work on various subjects including the Greek Community of Toronto, Giannis Ritsos and Kostas Varnalis, a vote of solidarity with the Chilean people (from 1981), a critique of the Greek community of Toronto (from 1980) and a speech for a farewell gathering at the Thessaloniki Association of Toronto (1984) – a fundraiser to send Papadatos to Greece, described (with heavy sarcasm) as a speech resembling a radio broadcast.
