Publication : UofT history proposal : Gidney/Millar

File consists of correspondence and two drafts of a proposal, written by Axelrod, Robert Gidney and Winnifred Millar, to write a history of the University of Toronto, submitted to the University of Toronto History Committee of the University of Toronto Press. A note in the file by Axelrod indicates that Martin Friedland got the contract to write the book, published in 2002.

File consists of a letter sent to Axelrod from the Ontario College of Teachers regarding an update to the College's casebook. Included is a table of contents for a publication entitled "Cases for teacher development: preparing for the classroom". Axelrod contributed content to chapter two of this publication, "Is the teacher's gender an issue in a kindergarten classroom?".

File consists of correspondence exchanged between Axelrod and the editors of the Canadian Historical Review pertaining to revisions to Axelrod's article, "No longer a 'last resort': the end of corporal punishment in the schools of Toronto".

Publication : McGill paper : revisions for higher education perspectives

File consists of correspondence, revision notes, and Axelrod's draft paper, "McGill University on the landscape of Canadian higher education: historical reflections", which he delivered to the James McGill Society on 29 April 1996 and offered for publication to McGill University. Included are overhead transparencies from his presentation, as well as a program for the event.

File consists of correspondence, reader comments and a corrected proof pertaining to Axelrod's paper, co-written with Roopa Desai-Trilokekar, Theresa Shanahan and Richard Wellen, entitled "People, processes, and policy-making in Canadian post-secondary education, 1990-2000", published in the journal "Higher Education Policy".

File consists of records pertaining to an Ontario College of Teachers leadership casebook entitled "Cases for leadership development", to which Axelrod contributed commentary for a case. These records are drafts of Axelrod's commentary, correspondence and notes.

File consists of page proofs of Axelrod and Paul Anisef's article, "Baby boomers in transition: life-course experiences of the 'Class of '73'", included as a chapter in the book "Restructuring work and the life course". Included is an accompanying letter from the University of Toronto Press, who published the book.

File consists of correspondence pertaining to York's Faculty of Education payment policies for host teachers and a complaint made by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (EFTO) about discrepancies in pay between elementary and secondary host teachers.

Pipes episode : anti-Semitism, etc.

File consists of notes, e-mail correspondence, and policy documents pertaining to the visit of Daniel Pipes to speak at York University and a complaint made to Axelrod about the use of the Faculty of Education's e-mail list, First Class, by the Coalition for Academic Freedom to promote a protest against Pipes. Also included in the file is a collection of anonymized e-mail correspondence pertaining to Pipes' guest lecture and the co-sponsorship by the York Centre for International and Security Studies (YCISS) of the event.

Ontario Teacher Qualifying Test

File consists of Axelrod's e-mail correspondence, notes, briefing notes, notices, Government of Ontario news releases, and articles pertaining to the Ontario Ministry of Education's new Ontario Teacher Qualifying Test, the logistics of administering the test to York's Faculty of Education students, and the eventual cancellation of the teacher testing in 2004. Included in the file is a photocopy of a 2002/2003 Ontario Teacher Qualifying Test information booklet.

File consists of a memorandum and a Faculty of Education proposal for a chair on education achievement and at-risk students at York University.

File consists of a memorandum and letter pertaining to the resignation of Lauren MacDowell as editor of the journal "Ontario history".

OISE contract 1994-5

File consists of correspondence, a contract and a memorandum pertaining to Axelrod's appointment as a sessional instructor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), teaching a course entitled "The history of higher education in Canada" in the 1995-1996 school year. Also included is a 9 February 2000 letter re-appointing Axelrod as a full member of the Theory and Policy Studies in Education department at OISE.

File consists of draft text for an entry on normal schools written by Axelrod for the Routledge International Encyclopedia of Education, published in 2008. Also included is correspondence and the Routledge standard contract and style guide.

Noble, David

File consists of a memorandum entitled "The York University Foundation: the tail that wags the dog (suggestions for further research)" by York University history professor David Noble regarding the composition of the York University Foundation, many of whom were Jewish, and its influence on York University policies. Also included are newspaper articles and press releases detailing the negative reaction to Noble's comments.
