Deanship search 2008

File consists of correspondence and job descriptions pertaining to the search to replace Axelrod as Dean of the Faculty of Education. Included is a memorandum announcing the appointment of Alice Pitt as the new dean in 2008.

File consists of correspondence sent and received by Axelrod pertaining to his application for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Education, as well as notes for his interviews and the text of his presentation to the Faculty on 4 May 2001. Included is a document written by Axelrod about his recollections regarding the process of becoming the Dean.

Item is an article from York University's student newspaper, Excalibur, detailing the salaries of the faculty heads and other administrators at York, including Axelrod.

Dean's reports to Faculty Council

File consists of an agenda and minutes for the 23 November 2005 meeting the Faculty of Education's Coordinating and Planning Committee. Also included is a draft of Axelrod's final address to the Faculty Council on 6 June 2008.

Dean search 2007

File consists of correspondence, notes, a memorandum and job descriptions pertaining to the search to replace Axelrod as Dean of the Faculty of Education in 2007. Due to the absence of an appropriate candidate, Axelrod was asked to stay an extra year, which he did. Alice Pitt was eventually selected to succeed Axelrod in July 2008.

Dean retirement : 2008

File consists of Axelrod's notes and speech for his 10 June 2008 retirement dinner, as well as written remarks about his retirement as Dean of the Faculty of Education by Alice Pitt, and joke lyrics to a song entitled "Hey, Paul" to the tune of "Hey, Paula".

Deaf education : Ministry of Education

File consists of Axelrod's notes on his meeting with Lorna Marsden and then-Ontario Minister of Education Kathleen Wynne pertaining to a variety of education topics, including education for the deaf.

File consists of draft text written by Axelrod for the "Message from the chair" portion of the Danforth Jewish Circle's bimonthly newsletter from December 2012 to December 2013.

Curriculum reform 2003

File consists of handwritten notes, proposals, e-mail correspondence and draft course descriptions pertaining to curriculum reform and program development at York University's Faculty of Education.

Course syllabus : Education and social change

File consists of course syllabi and examination questions for Axelrod's course entitled "Youth and society" (SOSC 3220) as well as syllabi and examination questions for his course entitled "Education and social change" (SOSC 1910).

Course evaluations

File consists of student evaluations for a course taught by Axelrod at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in the fall of 2000 (TPS 1801), as well as student evaluations for his York University course, History of Higher Education in Canada (EDUC 5410), held in summer of 2010.

File pertains to Axelrod's participation in 19 April 2005 meeting of the "Ginger Group", an informal group of academics and education professionals sharing ideas about the proposed Council on Higher Education, recommended in the Rae Report. Items in this file include a summary of discussion from that meeting as well as Axelrod's notes and a letter from fellow attendee David Lindsay.

Correspondence re: publication : "Baby boomers in transition"

File consists of correspondence pertaining to a request from Brill Publishers to reprint an article written by Axelrod with Paul Anisef entitled "Baby boomers in transition: life course experiences of the 'Class of '73'", which was originally published by the University of Toronto Press in "Restructuring work and the life course" in 2001.

Series consists of personal and professional correspondence consisting of manuscript and typescript copies of letters received by Axelrod and, in many cases, copies of letters written by Axelrod himself.
