Portuguese Interagency Network fonds

Fonds contains records which document the advocacy and educational campaigns of the Portuguese Interagency Network, its relationships with community service agencies in the Greater Toronto Area, and its administrative history. Records include: grant applications, membership lists and applications, correspondence, promotional material, advocacy and educational campaign material, newsletters and surveys. The material of each Working, Standing, and Ad-Hoc Committee, such as meeting minutes, agendas, notes, and promotional materials, are also included. Fonds also contains records which document the relationship between PIN and other community service agencies in the Greater Toronto Area, such as meeting minutes, correspondence, reports, and press releases.

Audio-visual material includes advocacy and education campaigns and recordings of national conferences.

Portuguese Interagency Network

Workshops

File consists of material related to workshops organized by PIN on topics such as: labour, legal, education, and family and social services; agendas and meeting minutes of various sub-committees; and mailing lists. File also includes a report on a workshop about social services for ethnic groups, held by the Annex Agencies Association with the Multicultural Workers Network, 13 June 1979.

Legal committee

File consists of a proposal by Dr Janusz Dukszta, MPP Parkdale, and Mr Tony Lupusella, MPP Dovercourt, to the Board of Parkdale Community Legal Services regarding the hiring of a Portuguese-speaking legal worker.

Proposal

File consists of documents related to a proposal to sponsor a conference to discuss housing issues, organized by PIN and Joe Pantalone, NDP Alderman for Ward 4 in Toronto, held 17 July 1981.

Children

File consists of material related to the Portuguese Foster Care Recruitment Project between the Catholic Children's Aid Society of Metropolitan Toronto and the Portuguese Network, and pamphlets related to children, foster care, and abuse, in English and Portuguese.

Survey of Portuguese construction workers in the Province of Ontario

File consists of two reports completed by Albert K. Sislian, Construction Safety Ethnic Communications Consultant and submitted to the Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO). The reports include: a survey of Portuguese construction workers in Ontario, December 1981; and a study to measure the effectiveness of CSAO's current audio-visual communication to the Portuguese construction workers, November 1984.

Social services

File consists of material related to the Parents' Convention, held at Central Technical School in Toronto, 6 March, including programs, registration materials, and lists of community and social service organizations.

PIN conference

File consists of material related to a conference titled, "The Portuguese Community in Toronto," held 7-8 May 1982. The file includes the conference agenda and the text of several speeches, including the keynote address by Fr Eduardo San-Bento do Couto of St. Mary's Church.

Reports

File consists of reports created by PIN, including reports on Parkdale Community Legal Services (PCLS), the "role of the ethnic worker in the social agency," and a project charter.

1981-1982 conference fund PIN

File consists of material related to the PIN conference, including a spreadsheet for conference funds, a document prepared by the facilitator for conference's health workshop, and a membership application.

Keynote speech, project proposal, and meeting minutes

File consists of: a document describing the long-term and short-term objectives of PIN; the minutes from a meeting of the Sub-Committee Liaison Persons, 16 August; the minutes of a PIN Board meeting, 17 August; a blank survey of on the Portuguese community, created by the City of Toronto Planning and Development Office; a proposal for a project to research and document available resources serving the Portuguese community in Metropolitan Toronto; and the script of a keynote speech by Eduardo San-Bento do Couto, translated in English and Portuguese.

PIN community survey

File consists of a copy of the letter distributed to 200 members of the Portuguese community in Toronto selecting them as participants of a survey and a report on the findings of the survey.

Family & social services committee

File consists of minutes of a meeting of the Family and Social Services Committee of PIN, held 11 March; and a letter from the committee requesting that PIN's board of directors approve a statement to be released to the Portuguese media.

Visible and invisible minority parent groups

File consists of the text of a presentation to the Special Parliamentary Committee on the Participation of Visible Minorities in Canadian Society, titled, "Coalition of Visible and Invisible Minority Parent Groups call for End to Racial Discrimination in Schools and for Laws to Guarantee French and Heritage Language Instruction." The presentation was delivered by Shamsher Grewal on behalf of: the South Asian Origins Liaison Committee, the Organization of Parents of Black Children, the Chinese Parents' Association, the French Language Advisory Committee, and the Greek, Italian, Portuguese, and Ukrainian representatives to the Heritage Languages Advisory Committee of the Toronto Board of Education.

C.O.E.D. contract

File consists of a contract with the Canada Ontario Employment Development Program for the project, "Portuguese Participation Towards a Better Future," and related documents.

Personnel policy information : examples

File consists of job descriptions, outlines of the board of directors' functions and policies, blank annual evaluation reports, a copy of the personnel policy of Bloor Information and Legal Services, and a draft of the personnel policy manual of the Portuguese Interagency Network, 1988.
