Dalcroze Eurhythmics teaching and other materials

Series consists of materials related to Madeleine Boss Lasserre’s career and interests as a music educator of children and adults in Toronto, Ontario. Most of the material was created between 1925 and 1977, while Lasserre was actively employed with the Margaret Eaton School and the Toronto Conservatory of Music. A small subset of the records were created outside of this time period. Records include: Dalcroze teaching and demonstration notes and diagrams; correspondence with colleagues and students; material pertaining to general early childhood education; and material related to the administration and promotion of courses in Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Series contains notes and notebooks, pamphlets, programmes, correspondence, and clippings, as well as photographs of Lasserre and other members of the Dalcroze and music communities.

Toronto Telegram photographic prints

Series consists of approximately 466, 500 photographic prints created or accumulated by staff at the Toronto Telegram. The largest volume of prints are under the subjects "United States" (ca. 7.2 metres of prints), "Ships) (ca. 5 metres), "England" (ca. 4 metres) and "Canada" (ca. 3.6 metres). Certain subjects have been arranged outside the general subject organization of the prints such as "Personalities" (15 metres); "Personalities/politicians" (ca. 4 metres); "Armed forces personnel" (ca. 8 metres) largely of the World War II era, provably used in reports of missing/wounded/killed in action. As well, there are photographs of groups of servicemen, again largely World War II era. Finally, there is a group of photographs of personalities who were associated with the Toronto Telegram, predominantly from the period after Bassett bought the newspaper (post 1952). The series also includes many photographic images purchased from wire services for the purposes of illustrating national and international stories.

Non-fiction manuscripts by Lloyd Mackenzie

Series consists of handwritten drafts and typed manuscripts of three works of non-fiction, based on diary entries, written by Mackenzie.
The first manuscript Aussies and Englishmen, a travel memoir, was submitted for publication in 1966. The second manuscript The English Canadian Nation, a historical reflection of the role of English-speakers in Canada from the age of the Vikings to the twentieth century was written and submitted around 1990. The third manuscript Watching the Neighbours Next Door based on extractions from his journals regarding American politics was submitted for publication in August of 1996.

Photo albums and passports

Series consists of twelve photo albums created by Lloyd Mackenzie and seven of his Canadian passports. Photographs document Lloyd Mackenzie's childhood and adolescence in Toronto, as well as some photographs of his parents, family and friends; his military service as a clerk during World War II; his daily life, friendships and living arrangements in Toronto, England and Australia; and his extensive travels within Canada, the United States, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Australia.

Writing files

The series consists of research material, notes, manuscript and typescript drafts of Wiseman's novels, short stories, poetry, plays, works of non-fiction, book reviews, speeches and scripts, many of which were written for CBC radio. It also includes publicity material, reviews of her work and copies of articles written about her by others. It contains material related to her novels "The Sacrifice" and "Crackpot", to the plays "Testimonial Dinner", "The Lovebound" and "Someday Sam: A Play, Libretto or Puppet Opera for Children of All Ages" as well as other material that documents her writing process.

Art show materials

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Pat Fleisher between 1977 and 2008. The records in this series pertain to Pat Fleisher's involvement with the administration, curation and promotion of a number of ongoing group art shows, as well as art shows featuring her own photography. Documented in this series is Fleisher's work for annual group shows including the Art Expo Toronto, the Toronto Indoor Art Show, and the Artfocus Fall Annual Artists' Show, as well as solo shows she curated for herself and for other artists at Sassafraz Restaurant, Cantine, Starbucks, and Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto. Files in this series consist of correspondence, notices, flyers, pamphlets, photographs, computer disks, press releases, and posters.

Ontario Media Development Corporation / Ontario Film Development Corporation files

Series consists of: film press kits, reports, agreements, meeting minutes, contracts, correspondence, media clippings, business trip itineraries, which document James Weyman's career as a producer and Manager of Industry Initiatives at the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) (2000-2015) and its predecessor, the Ontario Film Development Corporation (1986-1999).

Tectonic Plates

Series consists of four posters for the 1992 film “Tectonic Plates”. The 104 minute staged performance uses continental drift as a metaphor for the evolution of human culture. Staged in actual location in Venice and a sparse stage and pool, Tectonic Plates was critically acclaimed for its dreamlike imager, theatrical staging and philosophical intent. The production received the Christopher Columbus Award for most original and creative submission, and the most innovative award at the Figueira da Foz International Film Festival in Portugal.

Toothpaste : A Domestic Opera

Series consists of a libretto script by Dan Redican for the Larry Weinstein- directed 6 minute short film, “Toothpaste”, a ‘domestic opera’ about the marital difficulties between a couple centered on crusty toothpaste. Starring Mark McKinney and soprano Barbara Hannigan, the music was composed by Alexina Louie, and the production was produced by Rhombus in association with maplemedia.

An Idea of Canada

Series consists of original film and audio footage, including masters and news clippings of the 90 minute documentary directed by Kevin McMahon “An Idea of Canada”. The documentary follows Governor General Adrienne Clarkson across the country during her summer 2002 tour. Officially a trip to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of her position, what Clarkson discovers during her visit to a string of tiny aboriginal outposts in the north is a post-modern Canada struggling to integrate cultural tradition with the wired world. A coproduction between Rhombus Media and the National Film Board.

Childstar

Series consists of production notes, post-production ADR reports, production stills, posters, a ‘making-of’ featurette and original film elements of the 2004 feature film “Childstar”. Written and directed by Don McKellar, the film centers on sitcom icon Taylor Brandon Burns (Mark Rendall), the world’s most famous child actor who disappears while filming in Canada. Don McKellar stars as Rick, the boy’s driver and Jennifer Jason Leigh as ruthless stage mother.

Mozartballs

Series consists of scripts, interview scripts, research material and original film and audio elements of a “light-hearted tribute” to Mozart. Directed by Larry Weinstein, the project was also known during production as “Mozart Balls” and “Mozart Lives!”. The documentary interviews eccentric and unique individuals, including a retired Swiss school teacher, an ex-pop musician in Oklahoma who believes her body is inhabited by Mozart’s spirit, an Austrian astronaut who carried a score of “The Magic Flute” and a chocolate Mozartkugein into space
and a computer genius whose software has created a new Mozart cello concerto. Produced by Rhombus Media.

Red Violin

Series consists of scripts, multilingual translations, media coverage reports, photographs and the central prop for “The Red Violin”, arguably, Rhombus’ most ambitious and successful production to date. Written by Don McKellar and directed by Francois Girard, The Red Violin features scenes in French, English, Mandarin, Italian and German, requiring significant translation and subtitling.
Filmed on location in Chicheley Hall and Oxford in England, China, Cremona, Italy, Vienna, Austria and Montreal, the film traces the life and travels of the famous ‘red violin’, from its creation in 17th century Italy by the master Nicolo Bussotti (Carlo Cecchi), through it’s exodus from an 18th century Austrian monastery to 19th century Oxford, Cultural Revolution-era China to a Montreal auction house, where an appraiser (Samuel L. Jackson) and conservator (Don McKellar) try to establish its authenticity and provenance.
The film features actors Jean-Luc Bideau, Jason Flemyng, Sylvia Chang, Julian Richings and Colm Feore. Violin solos used in the musical score were performed by Joshua Bell.

The Red Violin received significant critical acclaim. The film swept the 1999 Genie Awards, picking up trophies for art direction (Francois Séguin), cinematography (Alain Dostie), costume design (Renée April), musical score, sound (Claude La Haye, Jocelyn Caron, Bernard Gariépy Strobl, Hans Peter Strobl), best screenplay (Don McKellar and Francois Girard), direction (Froncois Girard) and best motion picture. For the Jutra Awards of 1999, the film also took awards in the areas of art direction, best cinematography, editing (Gaétan Huot), best supporting actor (Colm Feore) score, sound, screenplay, direction, and best film.

It also won the 2000 Oscar for best original musical score (John Corigliano).

Slings and Arrows

Series consists of scripts, production documentation, props, set designs, promotional material and original film and audio elements (including episode masters, original film and dialogue overdubs) of the Rhombus-produced television series “Slings & Arrows”. Early drafts of scripts by Susan Coyen, Bob Martin and Mark Mckinney refer to the project as “St. Ratford” and “Shakespeareville”. Other writing credits are attributed to Tecca Crosby and Sean Reycraft for Season 3 of the production.
Directed by Peter Wellington, the plot revolved around “legendary theatrical madman” Geoffrey Tennant (Paul Gross) who returns to the New Burbage Theatre Festival (a thinly veiled Stratford Festival) to assume the Artistic Directorship after the sudden death of his mentor Oliver Welles (Stephen Ouimette). Geoffrey is haunted by Oliver throughout all three seasons of Slings & Arrows in which he stages and directs Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear. Also starring Martha Burns as Geoffrey’s former flame/problematic lead actress Ellen Fanshaw and Mark McKinney as the festival’s scheming General Manager Richard Smith-Jones. Also stars Geraint Wyn Davies, William Hutt, Colm Feore, Sarah Polley, Rachel McAdams, Luke Kirby, Sean Cullen and Don McKellar.
Each season featured a musical number sung written by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison by actors Michael Polley and Graham Harley.
Slings & Arrows was broadcast in Canada on Movie Central and The Movie Network channels in 2003, 2005 and 2006. It was later broadcast on the Sundance Channel in the United States.
The production received Gemini Awards for the best dramatic series and best writing in a dramatic series in 2006 and 2007, best direction in a dramatic series for Peter Wellington in 2006, and acting awards for Paul Gross (2004 and 2007), Martha Burns (2006), Susan Coyne (2006), Rachel McAdams (2004), Mark McKinney (2006) and Stephen Ouimette (2007). The series also received awards from the Writers Guild of Canada Awarded for best drama series in 2004, 2006 and 2007 and awards from the Directors Guild of Canada for picture editing (2006 and 2007), sound editing (2004) and outstanding television series drama (2006).

The series consists of correspondence, research material, notes, contracts, and manuscript and typescript drafts of Sherman's plays including "A Place Like Pamela," "Three in the Back, Two in the Head," "The League of Nathans," "Patience," "To Cry is Not So," "What the Russian's Say," "Field," "The Merchant of Showboat," "Quirt," "Reading Hebron," "The Retreat" and "It's All True," "An Acre of Time," "The Brothers Karamazov," "The Message," and others. It also includes copies of scripts containing revisions made during the production of his plays, correspondence and financial records related to these productions, and programs and reviews of the rehearsals and performances of these works. The series also includes correspondence, story ideas and outlines, proposals, research material, contracts, and typescript draft scripts for radio and television programmes including "P.M.O.", "National Affairs", "The Hard Wood," "Graf," "ReGenesis," "Afghanada," "Rosendorf Quartet," "Galileo," "Badlands," "After the Orchard," "Between Two Worlds," "Jonestown," "Murdoch Mysteries," "Zone of Separation," "Wrecking Ball," "Abbatoir," "Flashpoint," "Mind," "Last Hope," "The Rules," "Invectus," "Spadina," "Colder in the Suburbs," "Ronde-et-vous," "Blueprint," and "The Public Health," among others. The records pertaining to the production "Bloodletting and miraculous cures," based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Vincent Lam, are particularly comprehensive and include drafts, notes, correspondence, research files, and digital recordings of dailies, director's, producer's, and various other cuts of individual episodes. Among the earlier writings represented in this series can be found copies of essays, articles and plays written by Sherman during his years in the Creative Writing Program at York University as well as typescript copies and clippings of several of his articles and reviews which have appeared in The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Books in Canada and other publications.

Graphic materials

Series consists of promotional photographs in black & white and colour, negatives, contact sheets, as well as personal photographs of Grossman and others. For the most part the photographs are related to performances of the Grossman Company.

Correspondence

Series primarily consists of letters, cards, and printed emails written to Danny Grossman on a personal nature from industry professionals and friends, family, mentors, and former company members. Some files are subject files containing only photos, newspaper clippings and/or works created by the individual.

Business correspondence is located in this series include letters of support, thanks, and congratulations for the company. Some letters written on behalf of the company are primarily letters of recommendation for dancers. Additional business correspondence is located in the organisation records series.

Clipping files

Series consists of reviews, previews, and photographs of Danny Grossman Dance Company as well as notices of the Paul Taylor Dance Company and the Toronto Dance Theatre, two companies in which Grossman was a dancer prior to 1975.

Moving Image records

Series consists of video tape cassettes of the company's performances, rehearsals, television broadcasts, and an interview (performances and commercials). Included are performances of La valse, Bella, Hot house, Inching, Triptych, Memento, Ces plaisirs, Totem, and others. The videos come in half-inch and three-quarter inch VHS format, and half-inch Beta max format.

Business correspondence

The series consists of chronologically arranged files of correspondence that document Wiseman's professional life and includes correspondence with publishers, grant applications and inquiries, letters of inquiry related to employment, material that documents her affiliation with various organizations such as ACTRA, The League of Canadian Poets and The Writers' Union of Canada, correspondence and material related to universities where she served as writer-in-residence, appraisals and recommendations for writers including Susan Musgrave, Joy Kogawa, Ruth Johnson and others and correspondence related to travel and to her tenure as an instructer at the Banff Centre.

Biographical and administrative records

Series consists of biographical and administrative records pertaining to the life and achievements of Luigi Nasato. Includes: plaques and certificates; birth, marriage, citizenship, immigration and other governmental records; communion and educational documents; biographical statements and resumes; personal and professional correspondence; clippings and articles about Nasato and kin; Nasato's obituary; and other material.

Artist files

Series consists of materials pertaining to the artistic life and career of Luigi Nasato. Includes drawings, sketches, paintings, technical drawings, art objects, and other material created or compiled by Nasato, including extensive artwork related to his role as a mosaicist for various churches in and around Toronto, Ontario. Series also includes: notes on art history and artistic technique created by Nasato as both a student and professional artist; product catalogues and price lists; invoices and other financial documents; and other material.

Clippings, prints, and reproductions

Series consists of clippings, art prints and art reproductions compiled by Luigi Nasato for reference or inspiration over the course of his career. Primarily includes graphic material collected from various English-language and Italian serial publications.

Hans Mohr's files for professional organizations

Series consists of certificates of appreciation and membership from organizations such as The National Organization of Child Care Worker Associations Inc., The Christian Festival, The Board of Governors of Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, The Coalition for Gun Control, the Canadian Criminal Justice Association, and a certificate of appreciation from the African National Congress signed by Nelson R. Mandela in 1995. Series includes reports, meeting minutes, research updates, memoranda, notes and articles from organizations such as the Vanier Institute of the Family, the Law Commission of Canada, the Round Table on Citizen Agency, Big Brothers of Canada, and the Church Council on Justice and Corrections, as well as correspondence between officials of the institutions and Mohr. Included in the series is the report, "Restorative justice discussion paper" from 1999, and a signed letter from Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau acknowledging receipt of Mohr's paper, "The politics of the family and the family in politics."

Academic files of Hans Mohr

Series consists of article, reports, lectures, and presentations written by Mohr throughout his career on topics such as psychiatry, mental health, homosexuality, family equality, children's rights, sentencing, criminology, criminal law, legal reform, legal education, and sociology, as well as copies of his book reviews. Many of his articles are original annotated drafts, final editions or in offprint format. Series includes seminar papers on his course about structuralism, his course "Sociology 92-456 : The sociology of law," "Law 324 : Children and the law," his seminar on "Theory and empiricism in law," and his graduate seminar "Legal research, policy and reform." Series also includes evaluations written in 1981 by students in courses "Social foundations of law" and "Law and psychiatry." In addition, series includes drafts of conference papers and articles written by friends and colleagues such as Peter Fitzpatrick, Harry W. Arthurs, Roderick A. Macdonald, Kurt Wolff, and Marie Andree Bertrand. Some of these drafts have annotations made by Mohr. Series also includes: offprints inscribed to Mohr by friends and colleagues such as Alan Hunt, Douglas Hay and Charles David Axelrod; newspaper articles about Mohr and his work with law, psychiatry, sentencing, criminal law, and law reforms; and a collection of research articles on similar topics.

Journals and day planners

Series consists of journals and day planners maintained by Jeanne Randolph from the early 1970s to 2013. Also included in the series are travel journals and address books.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence received by Scheier and copies of her outgoing correspondence pertaining to personal and professional topics. Much of the correspondence is exchanged between Scheier and her family members.

Records of Maura Matesic

Series consists of records of the Canadian Law and Society Association retained by Maura Matesic in her role as treasurer, including: newsletters, conference programs, bylaws, minutes of meetings, financial reports, budgets, and documents dealing with its incorporation, journal, website, committees, and the Task Force on the Canadian Common Law Degree.

Correspondence

Series consists of personal and professional correspondence sent and received by Alison Pick. These records include handwritten letters and greeting cards but are predominantly e-mail correspondence. Most of the e-mail correspondence in this series was exchanged between Pick and a number of other Canadian writers and poets, her editor, literary agent and publishers. These records pertain to personal topics as well as Pick's literary career, including the writing, editing, publication, promotion and sale of Pick's 2010 novel, "Far to Go", her 2014 memoir, "Between Gods", and her 2017 novel, "Strangers with the Same Dream".

Memorabilia

Series consists of records accumulated by Alison Pick pertaining to her literary career, including reviews of her books, interviews she gave about her writing, items from literary events and workshops she attended, and awards she received. Some personal memorabilia is also part of this series.The records in this series are magazine and newspaper articles, book reviews, invitations, event programs and name tags, speaking notes, correspondence, e-mail, certificates and plaques, an audio cassette, compact discs, a DVD, medals, posters, a photograph, and Pick's high school yearbooks.

Research and company files

Series consists of material related to Hoffert's technological and theoretical interests including material pertaining to work begun at the National Research Council on music created using computer technology and carried out with a number of companies concerned with audio data and interactive technology. It contains business and research plans, copyright and legal materials, correspondence, reports, memoranda and other material for companies including McLeyvier, DHJ Research, Marquis Music, Time Out for Fun and the Cultech Research Centre, a project based at York University intended to investigate digital content use by residents in a housing development in suburban Toronto.

Daily diaries and e-mail files

Series consist of appointment books kept by Paul Hoffert from 1969 to 1993 that record daily appointment and other engagements. It also includes hard copies of Hoffert's e-mail correspondence arranged by subject that cover his personal life, his business and musical careers as well as his administrative and academic activities.

Diaries

The series consists of chronologically arranged diaries or agendas that contain a record of Christie's day to day appointments and activities.

Academic files

Series consists of Axelrod's high school, undergraduate and graduate school essays, speeches, drafts of articles written for student newspapers and other materials that document his involvement with student organizations including the Council of the York Student Federation, the Ontario Federation of Students and the Ontario Union of Students, as well as his research interest in post-secondary education and the student union movement. These records include publications, papers, articles and news releases.

Professorial files

Series consists of records documenting Axelrod's career as a university professor and administrator. Many records pertain in particular to his role as Dean of the Faculty of Education at York University between 2001 and 2008, as well as his work on committees (Ontario Association of Deans of Education, Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations). Included are correspondence, job applications, course outlines and student evaluations for courses taught by Axelrod, copies of research grant applications, past tenure files, photographs, reports, speeches, assessments, conference materials, newspaper and magazine articles.

Slides

contain slides that were used in Pollock's productions and include stills of street scenes in Ireland, Italy, Paris, that have relevance for Joyce's works. Also included are portraits of personalities of the early twentieth century, intertitles, drawings
and prints (the Seven Deadly Sins, religious images, Joycean characters), posters of World War One, and similar material. As well, there are hundreds of slides that were used in Pollock's productions which are primarily identified by the names of the plays, 'Night boat from Dublin,' and 'Giacomo de Trieste'.

Financial records

Series consists of financial statements, correspondence with banks and insurance companies, royalty statements and other income statements, household budgets including mortgage statements and insurance payments, and extensive income tax information for each year including anything deemed by Margaret Laurence to be of relevance for tax purposes.

Graphic materials

Series consists of photographs of Margaret Laurence, family snapshots and other various subjects, artwork consisting of illustrations for children's books, drawings sent to Laurence, postcards of artists' works, and posters. The photographs represent the majority of the photographs found among the Laurence papers; however, some photographs do appear in other series of the fonds.

York University and Faculty of Environmental Studies files

Series consists of records pertaining to Barndt’s involvement with a number of York University/Faculty of Environmental Studies projects, including the YUFA Women's Testimonies Project, curriculum diversity and equity workshops, and the Transforming Space into Place project. These records include research materials, correspondence, reports, notes, proposals, e-mail, memoranda, workshop materials, meeting minutes and agendas, budgets, transcripts, photographs and video cassettes.

Programs and projects

Series consists of information related to ICCSASW’s work on various programs and projects for the benefit of the sugar workers. These included hosting visiting union staff at the Toronto secretariat, a documentation centre, exchanges among specific countries, building regional networks, etc. Files contain notes and correspondence, copies of labour agreements, minutes, reports, registration forms, newsletters and other program-related materials.

Women Sugar Workers

Series consists of material pertaining to ICCSASW’s special program focused on women sugar workers. This work was undertaken with the help of an intern between 1987 and 1991. In the case of intern, Joan Atlin, this was made possible by a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Award for Canadians and consisted of networking, seminars, exchanges of visits and publications. Files include correspondence, research, reports and notes.

Homewood Health Care files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran in her capacity as a consultant to Homewood Health Care, a company providing behavioural, addiction and psychiatric services. The records in this series pertain to McPhedran's contract with Homewood, her participation in company meetings and a roundtable for Homewood employees based on a paper titled "Quest for empathy: human health in the post-deficit society." Files in this series include research notes, correspondence, memoranda, briefing notes, draft documents, reports, pamphlets, presentation slides (paper format), annual reports, invoices, conference materials, and journal articles.

Ad Hoc Committee of Canadian Women on the Constitution files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to the activities of the Ad Hoc Committee of Canadian Women on the Constitution, a national non-profit organization of Canadian women's groups and individuals formed in January 1981 to ensure equality rights for women were included in the new Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Records in this series document McPhedran's involvement as co-founder, organizer and participant with the committee and its activities, including the National Workshop on the Charter in 1981; Conference of Canadian Women and the Constitution in 1982; Critical Perspectives on the Constitution in 1983; and the National Symposium on Equality Rights in 1985. Also documented in this series is the committee's re-emergence in the late 1980s and early 1990s to challenge constitutional amendments proposed in the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords, and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ad Hoc Committee in 2006, commemorated with a conference, the Canadian Forum on Women's Activism. Files include reports, journal articles, newspaper clippings, notes, pamphlets, government publications, legal documents, transcripts, affidavits, grant applications, photographs, financial statements, memoranda, correspondence, day planners, and assorted ephemera.

Mary Jane Mossman and the Institute for Feminist Legal Studies files

Series consists of files created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to an Ontario Human Rights complaint filed against Osgoode Hall Law School and York University Dean Harry Arthurs and the resulting formation of the Institute for Feminist Legal Research at York University. McPhedran was one of more than 100 lawyers, law students and legal academics who were signatories of this complaint, which charged systemic discrimination against women after Osgoode Hall Law School did not promote Professor Mary Jane Mossman to the position of dean. The records in this series document the process of settling the dispute, the meetings and activities of the complainants' steering committee, and the details of the settlement made between the complainants and York University. These records include memoranda, newsletters, notes, correspondence, minutes of settlement, memoranda of agreement, agendas, reports, draft documents, invoices, and notices.

Subject files

Series consists of a variety of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran. These records reflect the scope of McPhedran's political, professional and research interests and activities. Subjects covered in this series include constitutional reform, women's health (national and international), feminism, family violence, sexual abuse, and workplace discrimination/harassment. Also documented in this series is McPhedran's participation in conferences, political campaigns and committee work. Records pertaining to some of McPhedran's contractual employment, articles written and her biographical information are also part of this series. Files in this series include notes, conference materials, brochures and pamphlets, journal articles, correspondence, newspaper clippings, memoranda, reports, CVs, electronic documents, and photographs.

Asian Development Bank project files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran while employed as an international consultant for Cowater International, hired to conduct a study and prepare a final report about the work of the Asian Development Bank's RETA 6008: Gender and Governance Issues in Local Government project. The records in this series document McPhedran's contract negotiations with Cowater; her preliminary research; her travel to the Philippines, Nepal, Pakistan and Bangladesh; but primarily her work with Asian Development Bank staff to prepare the final report. The files in this series include correspondence, reports, drafts, contracts, notes, notebooks, programmes, presentation slides (paper copy), financial documents, and outlines.

Gerstein Centre files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran, pertaining to the operations and functions of the Gerstein Centre, a City of Toronto resource centre for individuals with mental health problems for which McPhedran served as a founding director and board member. The records in this series document a variety of administrative issues, including the formation of the centre, meetings of its board of directors, and the 1990 re-opening of the centre at 100 Charles St. E. The files in this series consist of correspondence, draft documents, minutes, memoranda, budgets, bylaws, reports, newspaper and magazine clippings, and notebooks.

Personal and professional files

Series consists of material created by Archie Alleyne in his professional roles as a musician and memoirist, and through his involvement with projects such as Evolution of Jazz Ensemble and the Syncopation Series, and his personal collection of material which reflect his interest in music and African-Canadian history.

Political files

Records in this series document Grossman’s political career as a member of provincial parliament for the riding of St. Andrew-St. Patrick and Cabinet minister in the governments of Premier Bill Davis. Includes: correspondence, subject files, meeting minutes, research notes, briefing notes, reports, clippings.

Project files

Series consists of records pertaining to Maguire’s activities as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and arts organizer. These records, which include grant applications, photographs, letters of agreement, correspondence, proposals and notes, document Maguire’s work as an instructor in dance in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the York University, her independent choreography and dance projects, and her involvement with community arts education and dance instruction.

Audiovisual materials

Series consists of audio cassettes and videocassettes, primarily of Larry Grossman’s media appearances and interviews on television and the radio. Also included are 3 videocassettes of Grossman family home movies and 3 audio cassettes related to the book by Peter Oliver "Unlikely Tory : the life and politics of Allan Grossman" (Toronto : Lester & Orpen Dennys, 1985).

The Rosewell Group and Canadian Interfaith Network files

Series consists of records related to Peter Flemington’s work with the Rosewell Group, an independent collaboration amongst four friends (Peter Flemington, Doug Barrett, Des McCalmont, and the Hon. David MacDonald) who responded to the 1983 CRTC Call for Applications for a religious multifaith television service. Initially, their work centered on exploring the options and possible initiatives for Interchurch Communications. The Rosewell Group’s work leads to the creation of the Canadian Interfaith Network (CIN) in 1984, with the Rosewell Group continuing as the research arm of CIN to assist and guide it through the application process with the CRTC. This would lead to the creation of VisionTV in the fall of 1986.

The records in this series document the extensive preparation and research undertaken before the successful transition towards VisionTV.

Records include: meeting minutes; briefs; memos; policy and programming documents; correspondence; research notes; and CRTC applications and submissions.

Local politics and economic change in an East Indian rice farming village (Guyana) : research materials

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Silverman primarily between 1969 and 1970, when she conducted field research in Bush Lot, Guyana, for her PhD thesis entitled “Resource change and village factionalism in an East Indian community, Guyana”. The results of this research were also published in her book, Rich people and rice: factional politics in rural Guyana, 1900-1970. This ethnographic and historical research examined local-level politics and the effect of economic resources on politics in Bush Lot, an East Indian rice-farming community on the coast of Guyana. These records document Silverman’s approach to research, which included casual conversation, participant observation, attendance at political events, formal interviews, primary source research and household surveys, and her process of aggregating the resulting data, as well as providing a comprehensive history of the village of Bush Lot and its inhabitants in the early- to mid-20th century. The records in this series are notes, copies of village council minutes and letter books, court documents, surveys and household questionnaires, government reports, census records, audio recordings, interview transcripts and notes, card indices and computer printouts, research reports, maps of Bush Lot and greater Guyana, correspondence, and a copy of Silverman’s PhD dissertation.

Series consists of notebooks, day planners and sketchbooks created and/or used by Crosbie, as well as a number of calendars and an address book. The notebooks in this series include a variety of writing, including general notes, lists, notes pertaining to Crosbie’s writing projects and PhD research, as well as personal writing and drawings. Some items in this series contain loose ephemeral items, notes, letters, and photographs.

Series consists of records pertaining to Crosbie’s career as a writer, reviewer and editor. Records include draft manuscripts, poems and articles, research materials, page proofs, notes, invoices, correspondence, speaking notes, programmes, posters and photographs. These records document the writing, publication and promotion of Crosbie’s books of poetry, prose and non-fiction, including Miss Pamela’s Mercy (1992), The Girl Wants To (1993), VillainElle (1994), Pearl (1995), Paul’s Case (1997), Click: Becoming Feminists (1997), Queen Rat (1998), Dorothy L’Amour (1999), Missing Children (2003), Liar (2006), Life Is About Losing Everything (2012) and Where Did You Sleep Last Night (2015), as well as her writing for newspapers, magazines and literary journals. Also included in this series are reviews of Crosbie’s books, manuscripts by other writers sent to Crosbie for comment or review, and copies of her published poems, literary reviews, newspaper and magazine articles.

Professional and professorial

Series contains documents related to James' professional interactions (community service, honours and awards, and correspondence) and professorial engagement (course development; graduate student supervision on topics such urban education, sports, practitioner research, and race and diversity; and university service).

His community service includes involvement with the Anti-Discriminatory Advisory Group; UNICEF: discrimination against ethnic minorities, immigrants, and indigenous peoples; Toronto District School Board (TDSB); Toronto Police Services; and the Youth Challenge Fund.

Professorial documents include syllabi, lecture notes, proposals, letters of recommendation, and submitted thesis and dissertations. Correspondence

Series primarily consists of incoming correspondence to Hutchman from friends, colleagues, publishers and other writers. Correspondents include Margaret Avison, Brian Bartlett, Clark Blaise, Robert Bly, Roo Borson, Fred Cogswell, Barry Dempster, Louis Dudek, Gary Geddes, Ralph Gustafson, Don Hensley, George Johnston, P.K. Page, Al Purdy, James Reaney, and many others. A number of these letters concern interviews conducted by Hutchman with prominent Canadian poets, later published in his non-fiction book, In the Writers' Words: Conversations with Eight Canadian Poets. Some files consisting of Hutchman’s outgoing correspondence are also included in this series, and many files consist of printed e-mail correspondence created and maintained by Hutchman.

Memorabilia

Series consists of materials accumulated by Hutchman primarily pertaining to his early life, family, travels and career as a poet. These records include an award certificate, posters and notices for his poetry readings, newspaper and magazine clippings featuring his published poems, essays and reviews about his work, notes from presentations given, ephemera, and copies of publishers’ catalogues featuring his books. Included in this series are personal photographs of Hutchman, his family and friends, as well as other poets and writers.

Personal material

Series consists of financial records, correspondence,family photographs, stamps postcards and memorabilia accumulated by Lee Lorch for personal reasons. Also includes tributes and awards received by Lorch as well as his CV and published articles regarding his accomplishments and activities.

Audiovisual material

Series consists of five video reels featuring Forer’s lectures on various aspects of cell division, produced by Glen-Warren Productions Limited and aired as five episodes of CTV’s University of the Air television program in 1978.

Teaching files

Series consists of files documenting Gilbert’s work and activities as a lecturer and professor of philosophy at the University of Toronto and York University, as an undergraduate program director and administrator in the Department of Philosophy at York University, and as a speaker on the subject of cross dressing and transgender theory. Files pertaining to Gilbert’s consultancy work (through his company Effective Dispute Management) and talks on argumentation theory are also part of this series. Pro-life literature, bioethics research and deVeber Institute files

Series consists of pro-life literature and other records pertaining to Gentles’ research on bioethical issues, primarily abortion and assisted suicide. Also includes administrative and research records related to the deVeber Institute for Bioethics and Social Research (formerly the Human Life Research Institute), a pro-life think-tank of which Gentles is Vice-President and Research Director. Contains notes, correspondence, drafts, articles, clippings, meeting minutes, agendas, reports, financial statements, and other material.

Teaching records

Series consists of lecture notes, syllabi, reading lists, articles, and other materials pertaining to courses taught by Trist over the course of his career as an academic.

Manuscripts

Series contains typescripts of Harris' thesis on Giovanni Gentile, as well as typescripts, corrected drafts, galleys and page proofs of 'Hegel's development' (vols. I and II), 'Between Kant and Hegel: texts in the development of post-Kantian idealism,' (a series of lectures translated and annotated by Harris and George di Giovanni), and for 'Origins and legacies'. There are also typescripts and drafts of translations of works by Hegel ('Difference between Fichte's and Schelling's system of Philosophy,', 'Faith and knowledge', 'Encyclopedia of logic,' ). In addition, there are photocopies of Harris' revision of 'Lectures on the philosophy of religion'. The fonds also includes typescripts and drafts of several articles by written by Harris on Hegel, Croce, Hume, and copies of typescripts and off-prints of reviews written by Harris.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence with other philosophers, individuals, several educational institutions as well as learned societies (Hegel Institute of America), publishers, and letters of recommendation.

Audio-visual material

Series consists of photographs, video cassettes, audio cassettes and audio reels documenting several aspects of Pocock's career including video footage of the ceremony at which she received the Order of Ontario and sound recordings of a number of programs on which Pocock appeared as a guest.

Correspondence

Series consists of Jarrell's professional correspondence and memoranda, including incoming letters and copies of his outgoing correspondence. These records pertain to Jarrell's work as a York University faculty member, his research and writing projects, his work as the editor of "HSTC Bulletin" (later "Scientia Canadensis"), and his participation as a member of the Canadian Science and Technology Historical Association (CSTHA). Some items in this series are photocopies, and some items have been marked according to subject by Martha Jarrell.

Research and writing files

Series consists of records pertaining to Jarrell's various academic research and writing projects, including his book "Educating the Neglected Majority". Records include notes, lists, statistics, draft articles and manuscripts, bibliographies, copies of membership lists and directories, reproductions of archival records, publications, photographs, and Jarrell's research index cards, organized by research subject. Also included in this series are textbooks written and used by Jarrell to teach his classes at York University.

Series consists of lists of all the TAs, and Herzberg's notes from the TA meetings

and from the end-of-term TA reports. For the course-development years, the files are

grouped in this series; for the mature years, the files are located with other files for the selected years. There are also files related to a TA reunion held in 1999.

Personal and family files

Consists of Herzberg's files related to his research on the memoir he wrote about his mother, astrophysicist Luise Herzberg. Records include research notes, book proposal, correspondence with relatives, colleagues, publishers, photocopies of certificates, translations, genealogical notes, photocopies of original diaries, letters, etc., working files and a few photographs.

For the record production files

Series consists of records that pertain to the production of "For the record" television drama series. Records include correspondence, memoranda with CBC officials and colleagues, reports regarding the series' objectives and mandate, analysis of audiences and feedback ratings broken down by age and gender, meeting notes, handwritten script ideas and notes, copies of scripts, story proposals, press releases, promotional material and newspaper clippings. The series also includes files for several episodes that contain background research into production subjects, correspondence from viewers about episodes, budget estimates and resource requisition forms, various production-related schedules, and call sheets. Series also contains one file with photographs and six videocassettes of fourteen episodes.

General CBC files of Sig Gerber

Series consists of records created by Sig Gerber as a result of his work as a producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). These records include training manuals, booking calendars, show run-downs, production files, reports on broadcasting policy, press releases, producers' and directors' magazines, internal CBC memoranda and correspondence, program outlines, reports, promotional materials, scripts, photographs, and newspaper clippings about programs produced by Gerber. Also included in this series is a file of ephemera and photographs from Gerber's time at CHUM radio station in Toronto, where he worked before he joined the CBC.

Training materials

Series consists of textual records and audiovisual materials pertaining to Gerber’s work as a trainer and educator in television journalism and production for the CBC Training and Development Department and for Ryerson University’s School of Journalism. Subject areas taught include investigative journalism, reporting for television, and television documentary. Included in this series are CBC training manuals, Gerber’s course lecture notes, handouts and outlines, and videocassettes containing sample news footage and clips, mostly from the CBC, used in his training sessions and courses. Lecture notes from talks given by Gerber as a guest speaker and/or workshop leader are also part of the series.

Speeches and speaking engagement files

Series consists of records pertaining to Marilou McPhedran's speaking engagements and speeches given by McPhedran at conferences and other events in Canada between 1984 and 2005. These records reflect the scope of McPhedran's areas of interest and knowledge, including topics involving constitutional issues, women's health and legal rights, and sexual abuse and harassment. Files in this series include correspondence, transcripts of speeches, pamphlets, conference materials, newspaper clippings and magazine articles, notes, memoranda, brochures, a photograph, an audio cassette and a video recording.

Production files

The series consists of research files, time lines, successive drafts of scripts with revisions, casting lists, publicity films and other material relating to films produced and/or directed by John Smith including "The Boys of St. Vincent", "Dieppe", "Dangerous Minds", "A Cool Dry Place", "Random Passage" and "Prairie Giant : The Tommy Douglas Story" among others as well as numerous minor productions such as the award winning films as "Bargain Basement" (1976), "Revolution's Orphans" (1979) and "First Winter" (1980).

Audiovisual material screened at and recordings of Desh Pardesh

Series consist of video cassettes of films screened at the Desh Pardesh festival or an affiliated event; commercial shorts created specifically for the festival; and audio and video recordings of various events, workshops and performances at Desh Pardesh.

Journals, calendars, notebooks

The series consists of notebooks and journals kept by Powe in which he documented his thoughts and reflected on both his personal life and on works in progress. Also included are calendars on which Powe recorded appointments and other scheduled events.

Morley Callaghan files

Series consists of records pertaining to the writing of Morley Callaghan, particularly his short non-fiction writing, collected and re-published by Barry Callaghan in the Exile Editions monograph, A Literary Life : Reflections and Reminiscences 1928-1990 (2009). These records include newspaper clippings, short stories published in magazines and photocopies of radio scripts written by Morley from the 1930s to the 1980s, as well as word-processed copies of these materials, edited by Barry. Photocopies of the original typescripts for Morley's early unpublished novel, The Imposters, and for many of his short stories are part of the series, as are a manuscript for his novel, A Passion in Rome, and page proofs for an Exile Editions reprint of A Time for Judas.

Series consists of files pertaining to a variety of topics, including Callaghan's awards, tributes and honorary degrees, articles written about him, his personal life, his travels and his literary readings.

Mary Jane Mossman and the Institute for Feminist Legal Studies files

Series consists of files created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to an Ontario Human Rights complaint filed against Osgoode Hall Law School and York University Dean Harry Arthurs and the resulting formation of the Institute for Feminist Legal Research at York University. McPhedran was one of more than 100 lawyers, law students and legal academics who were signatories of this complaint, which charged systemic discrimination against women after Osgoode Hall Law School did not promote Professor Mary Jane Mossman to the position of dean. The records in this series document the process of settling the dispute, the meetings and activities of the complainants' steering committee, and the details of the settlement made between the complainants and York University. These records include memoranda, newsletters, notes, correspondence, minutes of settlement, memoranda of agreement, agendas, reports, draft documents, invoices, and notices.

Master of Laws files

Series consists of records created by Marilou McPhedran during her completion of a part-time LL.M degree in Comparative Constitutional Law through the Professional Development Program at Osgoode Hall Law School, which she began in 2002 and completed in 2004. The records in this series document McPhedran's participation in and written work for a number of courses, including: Aboriginal Peoples and the Canadian Constitution (GS LAW 6727); Constitutional Law and the Charter (GS LAW 6640); Federalism and Institutions of Government (GS LAW 6721); and Freedom of Expression and the Press (GS LAW 6722). Also documented in this series is a trip taken by McPhedran to South Africa to attend a conference on constitutional law. Records in this series include correspondence, conference materials, papers, notes, course outlines, essays, drafts, presentation notes, pamphlets and brochures, and newspaper articles.

National Network on Environments and Women's Health files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran while executive coordinator of York University's National Network on Environments and Women's Health (NNEWH) from 2001 to 2003. The records in this series document McPhedran's participation in a number of NNEWH's initiatives, particularly the preparation of a report titled "Rural and remote women's health : research and policy directions" and the organization of conferences, focus groups and research pertaining to that project. Also included in this series are records pertaining to McPhedran's administrative work for NNEWH and her management of work plans, budgets, and personnel. Some of these records relate to McPhedran's departure from NNEWH in 2003. Files in this series include reports, pamphlets, journal articles, correspondence, financial statements, memoranda, minutes, work plans, agendas, newspaper clippings, conference materials, and presentation slides (paper version).

Canadian Women's Foundation files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran relating to her involvement with the creation the Canadian Women's Foundation, founded to distribute funds to programs and projects assisting the self-reliance and economic independence of girls and women. The records in this series document the activities of the foundation in its first two years, particularly its board meetings and fundraising efforts to secure support from individuals, organizations and institutions, as well as McPhedran's work as interim director of the foundation in 1990. These records include correspondence, memoranda, minutes, questionnaires, notes, contracts, news releases, and invoices. Some records in this series were created by McPhedran's assistant for this project, Vicki Armstrong.

Day planners of Marilou McPhedran

Series consists of day planners maintained by Marilou McPhedran, spanning a 30-year period from 1973 to 2003. These records document McPhedran's scholastic, professional and personal activities, as they record course schedules, examinations, appointments and telephone numbers. Some day planners include photographs of McPhedran and her children taped in the covers, notes, and other loose items. Day planners for the years 1974, 1981, 1982 and 1984 are missing from this series. A note by McPhedran at the end of the 2003 day planner states that it will be her last because of a switch to an electronic Blackberry organizer.
