Seth Feldman fonds

Fonds consists of textual and audiovisual materials pertaining to Seth Feldman’s work as an academic and professor of film studies, university administrator, film critic, and writer and presenter of radio documentaries. These records are research files, taped interviews, successive drafts of scripts, transcripts, and recordings of programmes produced for the CBC radio series “Ideas” and his dramatization of Herma Maximo’s “The Ultimate Threshold”, prepared for the CBC radio programme “Vanishing Point”. Also included are film-related subject files maintained by Feldman; notebooks and research notes; material related to the Film Studies Association of Canada; course materials, notes, lecture recordings, correspondence, and student papers pertaining to Feldman’s work as a professor and Dean of Fine Arts at York University; drafts of a screenplay inspired by the George James Grinnell book “A Death on the Barrens”; a collection of film magazines; copies of recent films produced in Turkey; copies of films directed by Allan King; and research materials relating to Feldman’s work on Dziga Vertov.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s by Theresa Burke. These records document Burke's research, production and investigative work for "The fifth estate" documentaries airing from 1994 to 2015. Many of these records pertain to the following documentaries: "The trouble with Evan" (1994), "His word against history" (2000), "Terror" (2001), "Nightmare drug" (2002), "A state of denial : the Bill Sampson story" (2002), "Deathrow.com" (2003), "Death of a beauty queen" (2004), "The big break" (2005), "The Steven Truscott story: moment of truth" (2005), "You be the judge" (2005), "The lady vanishes" (2007), "The girl in Saskatoon" (2008), "Someone got away with murder" (2009), "Broken heroes" (2009), "The legacy of Brendan Burke" (2010), “Behind the wall” (2010), "The devil you know" (2011), "A question of innocence" (2011), "Diagnosis murder" (2012), “The last great escape” (2013), “The interrogation room” (2014), and “Mr. Big stings: cops, criminals and confessions” (2015) . Also included are research materials and manuscripts pertaining to Julian Sher's book, "Until you are dead: Steven Truscott's long ride into history" (2001), on which Burke worked as a research associate, as well as manuscripts and other materials relating to Ty Conn and Burke's book, "Who killed Ty Conn" (2000), co-authored with Linden MacIntyre. Records created and accumulated by Burke in the course of her research about the National Parole Board, the subject of witness protection, and the murder conviction of Mason Jenkins are also part of the fonds, as are a number of files relating to other miscellaneous research projects. Records pertaining to Burke's early career in public relations and marketing at Alliance Entertainment and Norstar Entertainment are included in this fonds, as are administrative records and training materials from the CBC, as well as Burke's personal journals, notebooks, letters and university essays. Records in this fonds are predominantly textual records and audiovisual materials arranged by project. These records include correspondence, interview transcripts, memoranda, copies of court transcripts and documents, copies of medical reports, journal articles, notes and notebooks, production materials including draft scripts, newspaper articles, contact lists, copies of police reports, prisoner records and legal documents, video cassettes (in multiple formats), audio cassettes, as well as computer disks and photographs.

Fonds consists of records created by Sig Gerber in his role as producer of several series for the CBC. Gerber's production responsibilities included overseeing the creative aspects involved with story proposals, research, script writing, and direction for each episode, as well as the management of technical components and financial resources. The fonds contains other documents related to the series' production, including reports, correspondence, meeting notes, handwritten notes, scripts, videocassettes, and promotional items, as well as reports on the CBC's broadcasting policies and the network's promotional material. Also included in this fonds are materials pertaining to Gerber's work as a trainer for the CBC Training and Development Department, miscellaneous internal CBC memoranda (1968-1996), and a file of ephemera and photographs from Gerber's time working at CHUM Radio in Toronto (1961-1964).

Fonds consists of the professional records of Knowlton Nash including: research notes, taped interviews, manuscripts, correspondence, publicity material and speeches regarding books written by Nash, including his unpublished memoir; print media articles about the CBC and Canadian journalism; newspapers articles by Nash for the British United Press wire service, and freelance columns and articles that were published in The Vancouver sun, Windsor star, and the Financial post; the newsletter, Washington thru Canadian eyes that was written and published by Nash while working as a freelance journalist in the United States; files on broadcast journalism and various projects at the CBC; daily appointment books; and correspondence regarding Nash's awards and retirement. The fonds also includes video cassettes and teaching material for CBC-TV's education program, News in review; notes and scripts for special news broadcasts on significant public events, including economic summits, the Quebec referendum, the repatriation of the Constitution, and Canadian and American elections; correspondence with viewers, colleagues at the CBC, and people with various organizations regarding editorial policies, coverage of major stories, speaking engagements, and Nash's involvement with educational and philanthropic organizations.

Rita Greer Allen fonds

Fonds consists of records created and maintained by Rita Greer Allen pertaining to her career as a freelance writer, researcher and broadcaster for radio and television, her work as an artist and sculptor, and her interest in and research about Jungian psychology. These records document Greer Allen's writing of dramatic and documentary scripts for radio and television in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, particularly her adaptations of short stories, novels and plays. Radio scripts written in the 1940s in collaboration with her husband, Robert Greer Allen, are also part of this fonds, as are scripts, audio recordings, interview transcripts and research materials pertaining to Greer Allen's writing, production and on-screen presenting work in the 1960s and 1970s for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) television program "Take 30". Correspondence and contracts pertaining to her work are included in the fonds and illustrate the long-term freelance nature of Greer Allen's radio and television writing for the CBC, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and others. The fonds documents Greer Allen's lifelong interest in art, particularly her work in the 1970s and 1980s as an artist and sculptor of raku pottery. Personal records, correspondence, research files and records pertaining to Greer Allen's travels are also included. Records in this fonds are correspondence, scripts, transcripts, notes and notebooks, photographs, audio recordings, day planners, artwork, research materials, newspaper clippings, posters, and personal memorabilia.

Fonds consists of material that documents his career as a writer and broadcaster and, as such, includes correspondence with publishers, fan mail, research material, newspaper clippings, reviews of his work, notes, drafts and galleys related to his novels and works of non-fiction. The writing files include photocopies of his own letters written to his mother when he was an internee in England and manuscript and photocopies of letters written to Koch from Daria Hambourg and used as research material for his novel, "The Brothers Hambourg". Fonds also includes transcripts of interviews as well as written reminiscences in the form of letters from many former German internees; these letters were subsequently used as resource material for his book "Deemed Suspect: A Wartime Blunder". Fonds includes a complete set of published copies of his books. The broadcasting files contain correspondence, memos, notes and drafts of scripts, scrapbooks and other material that documents his long career with the CBC.

Robert A. Lawson fonds

The fonds consists primarily of colour slides and black and white negatives that chronicle Lawson's activities over 25 years as a CBC production designer, particularly with colleague and friend, producer Norman Campbell, and their collaborations for CBC artistic television productions such as The Gondoliers (1962), Romeo and Juliet with Celia Franca (1965), Hansel and Gretel with Maureen Forrester (1970), Giselle (1975), Cinderella with Veronica Tennant, Jeremy Blanton and Lois Smith (1968), Swan Lake with Erik Bruhn and Lois Smith (1961 and 1967), the Nutcracker with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (1974), la Rondine with Teresa Stratas (1971), The Wonder of It All (1972), and the Karen Kain Super Special (1978). Other programs documented include More Joy in Heaven (1964), Hatch's Mill, The Masseys, Stephen Leacock, Wayne and Shuster television specials, A Case for the Court, Troubled Heart, Wojeck, and The Road among other programmes. There are also previously unseen photographs of pianist Glenn Gould with violinist Yehudi Menuhin in 1965, and in conversation with Bruno Monsaingeon in 1980. The photographs include many candid shots of iconic Canadian stage and television personalities including Gordon Pinsent, Celia Franca, Karen Kain, Veronica Tennant, Nadia Potts, Erik Bruhn, Norman Campbell, Wayne and Shuster, Christopher Plummer, Maureen Forrester, Margot Kidder, Robert Farnon, and others. Records also include some storyboards, drawings, slides and notes related to the Chroma-Key technique developed by Lawson and Campbell, program reviews, clippings, complimentary and congratulatory letters to and from Lawson, and about Lawson's work.
