Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence received by Scheier and copies of her outgoing correspondence pertaining to personal and professional topics. Much of the correspondence is exchanged between Scheier and her family members.

Series consists of personal and professional correspondence sent and received by Alison Pick. These records include handwritten letters and greeting cards but are predominantly e-mail correspondence. Most of the e-mail correspondence in this series was exchanged between Pick and a number of other Canadian writers and poets, her editor, literary agent and publishers. These records pertain to personal topics as well as Pick's literary career, including the writing, editing, publication, promotion and sale of Pick's 2010 novel, "Far to Go", her 2014 memoir, "Between Gods", and her 2017 novel, "Strangers with the Same Dream".

Series consists of chronologically arranged subject files and/or scrapbooks that were maintained by Christie on an annual basis between the years 1913 and 1984. The material up to 1959 was maintained in bound scrapbooks following which they were maintained as loose material in file folders. In both cases, they contain clippings, reviews, programs, miscellaneous correspondence, photographs and ephemera that document Christie's personal and/or professional life. The early scrapbooks contain Christie's record of Baptism as well as report cards from Riverdale Collegiate and programmes related to his early acting career at Hart House Theatre while he was a student at the University of Toronto. Included are records of Christie's acting career in London, England where he acted as part of the company of the Old Vic among other companies and of his acting career in Canada where he was a long term member of the New Play Society and the Stratford Shakespearean Festival company.

Series consists of production notes, correspondence, production stills, candid photographs on location and original film elements of the documentary “Crossing Bridges”. When Israeli-born Maestro Pinchas Zukerman and Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra embarked on a concert tour of the Middle East, it was to be a triumphant homecoming for Zukerman, as well as his first-ever performance in an Arab country. Instead the latest out break of Middle East violence resulted in the cancellation of several planned activities including a concert in Jordan and master classes in the Palestinian town of Ramallah. Mozart’s 41st Symphony, commonly known as The Jupiter, provides the musical backbone for this provocative and emotional documentary. The National Arts Centre Orchestra’s spectacular Tel Aviv performance of the piece, serves as a counterpoint to the escalating chaos in the region. Co-produced by Rhombus, the CBC, and Bravo Canada.

Series consists of records created and accumulated by William Packer regarding individual and institutional responses to the dispute between Harry S. Crowe and the administrators of United College, and includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports of the Canadian Association of University Teachers, statements of various individuals and United College bodies, and student newsletters. It also includes a notarized copy of the original letter from Crowe to Packer which sparked the dispute.

Series consist of appointment books kept by Paul Hoffert from 1969 to 1993 that record daily appointment and other engagements. It also includes hard copies of Hoffert's e-mail correspondence arranged by subject that cover his personal life, his business and musical careers as well as his administrative and academic activities.

Dalcroze Eurhythmics teaching and other materials

Series consists of materials related to Madeleine Boss Lasserre’s career and interests as a music educator of children and adults in Toronto, Ontario. Most of the material was created between 1925 and 1977, while Lasserre was actively employed with the Margaret Eaton School and the Toronto Conservatory of Music. A small subset of the records were created outside of this time period. Records include: Dalcroze teaching and demonstration notes and diagrams; correspondence with colleagues and students; material pertaining to general early childhood education; and material related to the administration and promotion of courses in Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Series contains notes and notebooks, pamphlets, programmes, correspondence, and clippings, as well as photographs of Lasserre and other members of the Dalcroze and music communities.

Day planners of Marilou McPhedran

Series consists of day planners maintained by Marilou McPhedran, spanning a 30-year period from 1973 to 2003. These records document McPhedran's scholastic, professional and personal activities, as they record course schedules, examinations, appointments and telephone numbers. Some day planners include photographs of McPhedran and her children taped in the covers, notes, and other loose items. Day planners for the years 1974, 1981, 1982 and 1984 are missing from this series. A note by McPhedran at the end of the 2003 day planner states that it will be her last because of a switch to an electronic Blackberry organizer.

Death row documentary

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Theresa Burke in her role as a producer for a Fifth Estate program titled "Deathrow.com," which aired in 2003, and a program update that aired in 2006. These records, which include court documents, correspondence, production materials, newspaper and magazine articles, interview transcripts, prison records, reports, notes, and audiovisual materials, document Burke's research work, interviews conducted and her involvement in the production of film shoots.

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Janice Newton in the course of her administrative duties in the Department of Political Science at York University. Records include notes, correspondence, minutes and agendas, proposals, and other documents created as a result of her position on various departmental committees. Series also includes anonymous surveys completed by third-year Political Science students as part of a study administered by Newton, graduate and undergraduate supplemental calendars, and miscellaneous reports and publications created by members of the department.

Deviancy and peer groups in a mining enclave (Guyana) : research materials

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Silverman in Guyana in 1966 while working on her MA thesis, entitled “Deviance and conformity in a Caribbean mining town”, which explored male juvenile delinquency in the bauxite mining town of Mackenzie (now Linden). These records document Silverman’s research methods and the aggregation of data acquired. Records include police and probation records, field and interview notes, reports, completed questionnaires, card indices, crime and employment statistics, an aerial photograph of Mackenzie, a research proposal, copies of Silverman’s completed thesis, and audio recordings of interviews.

Diaries of Lloyd Mackenzie

Series consists of 69 bound journals kept by Mackenzie from 1935 to 2005 (excluding the years of 1942-1943), ephemera and two schoolroom photographs that include Mackenzie. The majority of the diaries consist of accounts of daily events, particularly international wars, revolutions, political events; the activities of celebrities, statesmen and royalty; natural disasters; and cultural and social issues. These entries include minimal personal opinion and are formatted similar to newspaper articles. Events of particular relevance to Mackenzie are often embellished with marginal illustrations and rubrication.

Mackenzie also records more personal notes on his daily activities; his employment history, wages, housing and work environment; his socializing in taverns and cocktail bars; films and plays he attended; his efforts to improve his education; the progress of his various writing projects; the health and activities of himself, family members and friends; his relationships with other gay men; as well as detailed accounts of his travels abroad. He records important events and dates for other individuals, particularly his parents, his sister, and close friends.

Most volumes of the diaries contain a synopsis of the year's events in the final pages of the bound volume. Beginning in the early 1970s, Mackenzie begins to write more reflectively in his diaries and provides his own opinions and insights into the events he records. There are introspective entries on diary writing in the beginning of several volumes of diaries written after 1975, and the entry for March 7, 1972 contains a reflection on his lifestyle choices and his atheism.

There are also reflective and critical entries on Canadian and American politics, homophobia, generational conflicts within the gay community, American foreign policy, Quebec sovereignty and other major social and political events of the late twentieth century.

Dido and Aeneas

Series consists of six stage designs for the 1995 critically acclaimed and provocative dance production by Mark Morris of Henry Purcell’s 1689 opera Dido and Aeneas. Dido, the noble Queen of Carthage, has fallen in love with the Trojan Prince Aeneas. While the court celebrates the imminent union of the two monarchs, the evil Sorceress with her coven of witches plots their downfall.
Romance leads to heartbreak and tragedy. Dido & Aeneas stars Mark Morris himself as Dido and the Sorceress, while supporting roles are performed by the Mark Morris Dance Group. Tafelmusik, (the award winning Toronto based Baroque orchestra) provides the accompaniment to a superb cast of vocal soloists including the great mezzo Jennifer Lane. The production was well received in the international film festival junket and received several awards.

Don Giovanni Unmasked (aka Leporello)

Series consists of production notes, promotional material, production stills and original film and audio elements of the 2000 production reinterpretation of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”. Directed by Barbara Willis Sweete, the 55 minute production presents the opera from the perspective of Don Giovanni’s servant Leporello, employing a ‘film within a film’ framework to reveal his master’s true identity. Starring the Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, the production reveals the dark side of the opera with a provocative ending. Co-produced by Rhombus, CBC, Bravo Canada, Channel 4 Television and Thirteen/WNET.

Early career files

Series consists of material that documents the early music career of Paul Hoffert and includes clippings, reviews and programmes of his early performances as well as a number of composition notebooks from his studies with Gordon Delamont and his contact book for Toronton musicians, organized by instrument. It also includes a complete five-volume set of "Modern Arranging and Composing" written by Delamont.

Files in this series consist of Callaghan's research notes, some of his student papers and resource materials used in preparation for his graduate school comprehensive examinations at the University of Toronto in the mid-1960s.

Series consists of scripts, lighting design notes, production binders, set and costume designs, production stills, props and original film and audio elements for the 2002 adaptation of Timothy Findley’s award-winning play “Elizabeth Rex”. Directed by Barbara Willis Sweete, the 90 minute production creates a fictional encounter between William Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I on a historic night in 1601. Seeking distraction from the imprisonment of her political foe and former lover the Earl of Essex, the queen summons Shakespeare and his troupe of actors to perform a play. Co-produced by Rhombus, the CBC, and Bravo! Canada.

Series pertains to Rahder’s role as a faculty member in the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University, specifically her work on strategic planning, curriculum development and faculty interest clusters. Also included are records documenting her involvement with York University sustainability initiatives. Series consists of records created by Janice Newton while completing her PhD research at York University and, later, adapting her dissertation into the 1995 monograph The Feminist Challenge to the Canadian Left, 1900-1918 (McGill-Queen's University Press). The records include research notes, correspondence, photocopies of primary source materials, lecture notes, scrapbooks, photographic prints and negatives, and an audio interview with Mary Ford, niece of Mary Cotton Wisdom.

Series consists of records created or accumulated by Sternberg in the process of her activities as an experimental filmmaker, performer, and artist. Records include project files on complete and incomplete works, including but not limited to "A Story," "Transitions," "Like a Dream That Vanishes," and "Beating," and consist of notes, scripts, shot lists, research materials, grant applications, and correspondence. This series is primarily comprised of 35mm slides and photographs of varying dimensions. The series also includes multiple moving image formats, as well as an envelope of pressed leaves and a box of cloth figures.

Consists of royalty statements, letters of permission, contracts, correspondence with agents and other material that documents financial transactions related to the sales and marketing of Mistry's work.

Series consists of material that documents Wiseman's finances and, as such, includes income tax returns including statements of all annual expenditures as well as documents related to her banking, records related to the sale of her family's home and other records related to her parents' finances. It also includes contracts and agreements reached between Wiseman and the Canadian Broadcasting Company and various publishers and material related to the finances of various members of her family.

Series consists of contracts signed by Christie for engagements in theatre, television, radio and advertising as well as copies of Christie's income tax returns for the years 1937 to 1986.

Firebird

Series consists of a production binder, production stills, original film elements (including one fine cut and a behind-the-scenes featurette) of Barbara Willis Sweete directed adaptation of Stravinsky’s “The Firebird”. Adapted from James Kudelka’s classical ballet, the 51 minute television special features visual affects complimenting the performances of the top dancers of the National Ballet of Canada, including Rex Harrington, Rebekah Rimsay, Greta Hodkinson, Aleksander Antonuevic, Victoria Bertram, Lorna Geddes and Ryan Boone. Co- produced by Rhombus, the CBC and others.

Five Days in September (aka See The Music)

Series consists of interview transcripts, musician schedules, original film and audio elements for the ‘reality-style’ documentary exposing the inner workings of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the institution’s efforts in 2004 to launch a new season under a new Maestro, Peter Oundjiian. Directed by Barbara Willis Sweete, the 72 minute documentary features candid footage of celebrity soloists such as YoYo Ma, Emanuel Ax and Renee Fleming as they rehearse, prepare and interact with fans during the week leading up to the premier performance with the orchestra. Produced by Rhombus Media.

For the record production files

Series consists of records that pertain to the production of "For the record" television drama series. Records include correspondence, memoranda with CBC officials and colleagues, reports regarding the series' objectives and mandate, analysis of audiences and feedback ratings broken down by age and gender, meeting notes, handwritten script ideas and notes, copies of scripts, story proposals, press releases, promotional material and newspaper clippings. The series also includes files for several episodes that contain background research into production subjects, correspondence from viewers about episodes, budget estimates and resource requisition forms, various production-related schedules, and call sheets. Series also contains one file with photographs and six videocassettes of fourteen episodes.

Foreign Objects

Series consists of scripts for all six episodes, production notes, media clippings, production stills and original film and audio elements as well as stock footage relating to “Foreign Objects”, a miniseries broadcast on CBC, based on Ken Finkleman’s popular series “The Newsroom”. Finkelman reprises the role of George, a documentary filmmaker, who is forced to confront issues of evil, greed and the human condition (despite his preference for less complex commercially lucrative projects) in a series of six 30 minute episodes which aired on CBC in 2001. Particular material focuses on civil war in Kosovo, Western culture’s fixation on media and… Includes stock footage from CBC, the National Archives and other sources. Co-produced by Rhombus, Showcase Television and the CBC.

Four Seasons

Series consists of production binders, musical scores, production stills and original film and audio elements (including a colour-corrected master) of the 2000 performance piece “The Four Seasons” directed by Barbara Willis Sweete. The 56 minute ballet, set to Vivaldi’s score and choreographed by James Kudelka, featured performances by the principal dancers of the National Ballet of Canada, including Rex Harrington.

Four Shelter project files

Series consists of records pertaining to the work of Rahder and Associates for this project on behalf of women’s shelters in Durham Region and the Counties of Peterborough, Victoria, Haliburton, and Northumberland to identify under-served and marginalized women in their communities. Records in this series include proposals, correspondence, a contract, notes, meeting agendas, questionnaires, budgets, progress reports, research materials, training materials, executive summaries, strategic plans, and the project’s final report. Also included are records pertaining to the creation of a facilitator’s guide by Rahder and Associates for a YMCA anti-racist training program.

GATT-Fly and Brewster Kneen/origins of ICCSASW

Series includes records from the formational years of ICCSASW, primarily materials gathered by ICCSASW's parent institution, GATT-Fly, an overseas development agency of the Canadian churches for global economic justice. Series includes research materials pertaining to the sugar industry, such as material about the Food Prices Review Board and the Tariff Board hearings, gathered by food industry analyst Brewster Kneen in his research for “The Economy of Sugar," published in June 1971 by CENSIT (Centre for the Study of Institution and Theology). These research materials were given to Reg McQuaid in 1973 and include correspondence, memoranda, minutes and news clippings.

Gay athletes documentary

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Theresa Burke during the production of CBC "Fifth estate" documentary "The legacy of Brendan Burke" (Nov. 2010), on the subject of gay athletes. These records concern the organization of interviews and shooting schedules with members of Brendan Burke's family and the other athlete subjects of the documentary, as well as background research on gay male and female athletes in different sports. The records in this series include correspondence, interview transcripts, newspaper and journal articles, production materials, audiovisual materials, and draft scripts.

General CBC files of Sig Gerber

Series consists of records created by Sig Gerber as a result of his work as a producer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). These records include training manuals, booking calendars, show run-downs, production files, reports on broadcasting policy, press releases, producers' and directors' magazines, internal CBC memoranda and correspondence, program outlines, reports, promotional materials, scripts, photographs, and newspaper clippings about programs produced by Gerber. Also included in this series is a file of ephemera and photographs from Gerber's time at CHUM radio station in Toronto, where he worked before he joined the CBC.

Series includes miscellaneous records on topics related to overseas development, economic justice, trade union matters, government policies and other issues that could affect the work of trade union solidarity. Files include correspondence, mailing lists, miscellaneous photographs and reference material, as well as records relating to office administration, staffing etc.

Series consists of press, correspondence, and other material related to the career of Larry Weinstein, Rhombus Media and other subjects not falling within the purview of any specific project. Also includes records pertaining to master classes, juries and workshops in which Larry Weinstein was a participant.

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Theresa Burke in her role as a producer for the CBC program The Fifth Estate. These records pertain to the family history of Gerry Clark, son of Sanford Clark, the Saskatchewan-born boy involved in the Gordon Stewart Northcott serial murders in California. The files in this series consist of copies of court transcripts from the 1929 murder trial of Gordon Stewart Northcott as well as copies of Northcott's prison correspondence and appeal documents. Other records in this series are interview transcripts and notes, correspondence, travel itineraries, production materials, newspaper articles, and notes pertaining to Burke's research about Gerry Clark, who was considered a possible suspect in the 1962 murder of Alexandra Wiwcharuk. The materials in this series may be connected to Burke's work as producer for Fifth Estate documentaries about Wiwcharuk's murder, "Death of a beauty queen" and "The girl from Saskatoon."

Gerstein Centre files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran, pertaining to the operations and functions of the Gerstein Centre, a City of Toronto resource centre for individuals with mental health problems for which McPhedran served as a founding director and board member. The records in this series document a variety of administrative issues, including the formation of the centre, meetings of its board of directors, and the 1990 re-opening of the centre at 100 Charles St. E. The files in this series consist of correspondence, draft documents, minutes, memoranda, budgets, bylaws, reports, newspaper and magazine clippings, and notebooks.

Glenn Gould Hereafter / Glenn Gould : Au delà du temps

A retrospective of the life and work of Glenn Gould, the film draws heavily on archival material from various sources, some previously unreleased. Made as if narrated by Gould himself. Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon and 106 minutes long, the documentary was co-produced by Rhombus and Idéale Audience.

Global College (University of Winnipeg) files

Series consists of records created and accumulated by McPhedran during her tenure as Principal of the University of Winnipeg’s Global College (2008-2012) and as a faculty member at Global College. Records in this series document her involvement with the work of the College, including special events and conferences, include audiovisual materials, conference materials, photographs, a transcript and correspondence.

Graduate and undergraduate Studies

Series contains essays from his Oxford undergraduate days as well as notes and essays from Northwestern University (Master's degree), and typescript copies of his doctoral thesis at the University of Illinois, 1953.
