[CBC Toronto, Caribana coverage 1988] Soap opera’s & Caribana 1988

A video cassette of recorded footage of CBC Toronto broadcasting Caribana coverage. Caribana 1988 marked the first year the federal government sponsored a Caribana float. The theme was “Canada: This is our home” and was led by Ken Shah (noted as Ken Shaw in the recording.) The first half of the videocasette includes episodes of Days of Our Lives and other television shows.

Carnival in Canada, March 31st 1988

A video cassette of a cultural documentary narrated by Frank Manning. The documentary includes an interview with Shah around the 10 minute mark, discussing costume preparation and creation, and what it is like being a band leader. The end of the tape includes footage from the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
