Notes and Research for an address by Sheldon Godfrey, Chairman of Heritage Canada to the Rotary Club of Toronto, June 14th 1996 at the Royal York Hotel on "The Bicentennial of the Community Around Younge Street." In 1828, William Lyon Mackenzie described the population of the Town of York and surrounding country as "a mixed race, neither amalgamated in manners nor customs nor habits."
