My life

Discs in this file pertain to a lecture given by Jean Randolph, with a performance by Jacob Wren and Adam Kinner, titled "Stage Set Stage: on identity and institutionalism", at the SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art on 15 January 2014. Randolph's talk is entitled "The poetics and politics of dissociation".

Fonds consists of material related to Virginia Rock's research for her doctoral dissertation and other academic writing pertaining to the Twelve Southern Agrarians. Records include research notes and index cards, photocopies of newspaper clippings, book reviews, literary criticism, journal articles, and photocopies of material written by or about the Southern Agrarians regarding their lives and work, as well as their correspondence with Rock. The fonds also contains Rock's personal and professional correspondence, drafts of Rock's final dissertation and articles, records concerning her involvement with the Canadian Women's Studies Association, as well as materials pertaining to Rock's work as a professor at York University, including information about Stong College, syllabi, course kits and reading lists, information about symposiums she attended, and items relating to her work as an instructor and advisor for the Graduate Women's Studies Programme. Also included in the fonds are records pertaining to Rock's experience teaching American literature as a Fulbright visiting professor at Jagiellonian University in Krakow between 1962 and 1964. These records, which include photographs, correspondence and memorabilia, document Rock's activities while in Poland as well as her return visits to Poland in later years and her general interest in the country. An issue of the Polish magazine "Ameryka," featuring an article about Virginia Rock, has been added to Special Collections; an English translation is available in the fonds.

File consists of meeting minutes, reports, financial statements and other records pertaining to the executive activities of the Human Life Research Institute (a.k.a the deVeber Institute for Bioethics).

Memorabilia

Series consists of materials accumulated by Hutchman primarily pertaining to his early life, family, travels and career as a poet. These records include an award certificate, posters and notices for his poetry readings, newspaper and magazine clippings featuring his published poems, essays and reviews about his work, notes from presentations given, ephemera, and copies of publishers’ catalogues featuring his books. Included in this series are personal photographs of Hutchman, his family and friends, as well as other poets and writers.

Correspondence

Series primarily consists of incoming correspondence to Hutchman from friends, colleagues, publishers and other writers. Correspondents include Margaret Avison, Brian Bartlett, Clark Blaise, Robert Bly, Roo Borson, Fred Cogswell, Barry Dempster, Louis Dudek, Gary Geddes, Ralph Gustafson, Don Hensley, George Johnston, P.K. Page, Al Purdy, James Reaney, and many others. A number of these letters concern interviews conducted by Hutchman with prominent Canadian poets, later published in his non-fiction book, In the Writers' Words: Conversations with Eight Canadian Poets. Some files consisting of Hutchman’s outgoing correspondence are also included in this series, and many files consist of printed e-mail correspondence created and maintained by Hutchman.

Unpublished articles/commentaries

File consists of articles and commentaries primarily written for publication and submitted to the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star newspapers but not published. These articles pertain to topics including violence on television, university policy and politics, Canadian politics, and liberal arts post-secondary education.

Records in this accession mainly pertain to Robert Drummond’s administrative and academic work as a professor of Political Science and Dean of York University’s Faculty of Arts.
