Financial records

Series consists of financial statements, correspondence with banks and insurance companies, royalty statements and other income statements, household budgets including mortgage statements and insurance payments, and extensive income tax information for each year including anything deemed by Margaret Laurence to be of relevance for tax purposes.

Manuscripts

Series consists of manuscripts by Margaret Laurence and manuscripts by other writers. The manuscripts by Margaret Laurence consist of notes and research for The Diviners, manuscripts and short stories, children's stories, articles, speeches and addresses, poetry, reviews, translations of Somali poetry, reviews of A Tree for Poverty, a music score for For the Whaling Fleets, drafts of introductions to other writers' books, and recommendations for other writers. Items written by other writers include articles about Margaret Laurence and other topics, short stories, essays, poems, speeches, MA theses and reviews. Included are a typescript for Sandy Stern's "And After This Summer" (a screenplay for The Firedwellers), a television script for A Bird in the House (adapted by P. Wilson) and a film script for The Olden Days Coat (screenplay by S. Marcus), a musical adaptation of Jason's Quest and an adaptation for the stage of The Stone Angel.

Series consists of photographs of Margaret Laurence, family snapshots and other various subjects, artwork consisting of illustrations for children's books, drawings sent to Laurence, postcards of artists' works, and posters. The photographs represent the majority of the photographs found among the Laurence papers; however, some photographs do appear in other series of the fonds.

Sound recordings

Series consists of sound recordings of readings, speeches and convocations addresses by Margaret Laurence, interviews with Laurence (includes interview with Helen Trotter re: the Censorship Controversy), tributes to Laurence, recordings of Songs From The Diviners, and other recordings of interviews and presentations of interest to Laurence. Two filmstrips accompany two of the audio cassettes.

Moving image records

Series consists of an interview with Margaret Laurence on the TV news, Laurence receiving an honourary degree from Trent University in 1981, and tributes to Laurence.

Grant files

Series consists of grant program guides, applications, supporting documentation, and correspondence relating to grants received by Wieland from the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council and Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture.

Graphic material

Series consists of original art work by Joyce Wieland including sketches, three-dimensional pieces, drafts of visual ideas, notebooks, and prints of finished pieces. There are photocopies of sketches found in other series included here, as well as some photographs used by Wieland for her artwork.

Photographs

Series consists of portraits and snapshots of Joyce Wieland, personal photographs of family and friends (i.e. Wendy Michener), photos used in the creation of her art pieces, photos of her finished artwork, and stills from film shots (The Far Shore). Some sketches may be found with the photos.

Series consists of general, personal, and business correspondence documenting Wieland's work with the art community, social issues, and the honours she received for her work in art and film.

Series consists of video tape productions of 'Women of Distinction' and 'Mary McEwan' and film reels of 'A and B in Ontario'.

Toronto Telegram photographic prints

Series consists of approximately 466, 500 photographic prints created or accumulated by staff at the Toronto Telegram. The largest volume of prints are under the subjects "United States" (ca. 7.2 metres of prints), "Ships) (ca. 5 metres), "England" (ca. 4 metres) and "Canada" (ca. 3.6 metres). Certain subjects have been arranged outside the general subject organization of the prints such as "Personalities" (15 metres); "Personalities/politicians" (ca. 4 metres); "Armed forces personnel" (ca. 8 metres) largely of the World War II era, provably used in reports of missing/wounded/killed in action. As well, there are photographs of groups of servicemen, again largely World War II era. Finally, there is a group of photographs of personalities who were associated with the Toronto Telegram, predominantly from the period after Bassett bought the newspaper (post 1952). The series also includes many photographic images purchased from wire services for the purposes of illustrating national and international stories.

Series consists of approximately 833,500 photographic negatives, the majority of which are black and white 35mm.
The negatives are arranged by subject heading, although there are more subject headings here than in the print series, and tend to be local in nature. Negatives for photographs of personalities have been separated out of the main arrangement.

The series consists of research files, time lines, successive drafts of scripts with revisions, casting lists, publicity films and other material relating to films produced and/or directed by John Smith including "The Boys of St. Vincent", "Dieppe", "Dangerous Minds", "A Cool Dry Place", "Random Passage" and "Prairie Giant : The Tommy Douglas Story" among others as well as numerous minor productions such as the award winning films as "Bargain Basement" (1976), "Revolution's Orphans" (1979) and "First Winter" (1980).

Scripts

Series consists of scripts written by others and sent to John Smith in the course of his film making career presumably for his consideration as a director or producer.

National Film Board files

The series consists of advertisements, production files, press releases, newsletters, Committee 200 files, reports and staff related files created and or accumulated by John Smith and relating to his work with the National Film Board of Canada.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation files

Series consists of telecast schedules, correspondence for the Children's Television Department (1982-1987), contractual agreements, files pertaining to the CBC's court case with the Supreme Court of Canada related to "The Boys of St. Vincent" and other material created and or accumulated by John Smith during the course of his work with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Business files

Series consists of correspondence received by John Smith during the course of his career as a director and producer and business records of Smith's company, Dunany Productions Inc., including copies of year end files.

Personal files

The series consists of correspondence, certificates, articles, contracts and other financial documents, clippings, newsletters, diaries, note books and photographs created and/or accumulated by John Smith and relating to his personal life and interests.

Writing files

The series consists of research material, notes, manuscript and typescript drafts of Wiseman's novels, short stories, poetry, plays, works of non-fiction, book reviews, speeches and scripts, many of which were written for CBC radio. It also includes publicity material, reviews of her work and copies of articles written about her by others. It contains material related to her novels "The Sacrifice" and "Crackpot", to the plays "Testimonial Dinner", "The Lovebound" and "Someday Sam: A Play, Libretto or Puppet Opera for Children of All Ages" as well as other material that documents her writing process.

Business correspondence

The series consists of chronologically arranged files of correspondence that document Wiseman's professional life and includes correspondence with publishers, grant applications and inquiries, letters of inquiry related to employment, material that documents her affiliation with various organizations such as ACTRA, The League of Canadian Poets and The Writers' Union of Canada, correspondence and material related to universities where she served as writer-in-residence, appraisals and recommendations for writers including Susan Musgrave, Joy Kogawa, Ruth Johnson and others and correspondence related to travel and to her tenure as an instructer at the Banff Centre.

Wiseman family files

The series consists of correspondence and other material that documents Wiseman's relationship to her family and, as such, contains copies of letters received by Wiseman as well as copies of letters sent by her to various members of her family including her husband, Dmitry Stone, her parents, Chaika and Pesach Waisman and her daughter Tamara Stone. It also contains medical records, marriage licenses, divorce papers, wills of various members of the family, photographs, memorabilia as well as collected correspondence exchanged between members of the Wiseman family but not necessarily about the author herself.

General correspondence

The series consists of personal and professional correspondence including manuscript and typescript copies of letters received by Wiseman and, in many cases, copies of letters written by Wiseman herself. It includes correspondence with friends, readers and fellow writers including Margaret Laurence, bill bissett, Don Coles, Marian Engel, Timothy Findley, Frances Itani, Jay McPherson, Mordecai Richler, Malcolm Ross, Jane Rule, Phyllis Grosskurth, Steven Heighton, Gwendolyn McEwen, Don McKay, Tillie Olsen, P.K. Page, Carol Shield and Christopher Wiseman among others.

Financial records

Series consists of material that documents Wiseman's finances and, as such, includes income tax returns including statements of all annual expenditures as well as documents related to her banking, records related to the sale of her family's home and other records related to her parents' finances. It also includes contracts and agreements reached between Wiseman and the Canadian Broadcasting Company and various publishers and material related to the finances of various members of her family.

Subject files

Series consists of a series of files containing information that relates to Wiseman's interests, particularly around social causes such as animal rights, nuclear disarmament, race relations and the environment as well as notebooks, maps, postcards, airline tickets, memorabilia and other material related to Wiseman's travels to China.

Works by others

Series consists of manuscripts, typescripts, and printed materials written by or about other writers. Much of the typescript material was given to Wiseman while she was an instructor at the Banff School of the Arts. It includes clean copies of work by Caroline Adderson, Carol Bolt, Marian Engel, Sylvia Fraser, Gary Geddes, Anne Michaels, Michael Redhill, Anne Carson and others. It also contains copies of articles or reviews written by or about other authors that were collected by Wiseman.

Academic and teaching files

The series consists of material that documents Wiseman's career as an academic, both as a student and as a professor. It includes lecture notes, essays, examinations, assignments and other material related to her years as a student at the University of Manitoba and student submissions, publications, catalogues, minutes, notes, brochures, resumes and other material related to her years as a teacher at the University of Windsor. It also conatins materil related to her years as a writing instructor at the Banff Centre and, as such, contains correspondence with colleagus including Don Coles, Mavis Gallant, Don McKay, P.K. Page, Jay Ruzesky, Miriam Waddington, Rudy Wiebe, Chris Wiseman and Rachel Wyatt among others.

Journals, notebooks and address books

The series consists of journals kept by the author as well as loose material found in journals such as correspondence, notes, fragments of stories and other items. It contains notebooks, bound or unbound, in which Wiseman kept ideas for stories and works as well as drafts of her work, drawings and other thoughts from her daily life. It also includes address books kept by Wiseman over several years.

Loons files

The series consists of clippings, correspondence, minutes and other material regarding Wiseman's participation in the artist's group Loons. Formed in November 1982, Loons was an initial group of nineteen poets, novelists, composers, painters and sculptors who met informally for a period of about three years to discuss how their respective arts could act as an influence on each other. In addition to Wiseman, it counted Murray Adaskin, Elizabeth Smart, Phyllis Webb, Earle Birney, Timothy Findley, Vera Frenkel, George Johnston, Gwendolyn McEwen, Anne Michaels, P.K. Page and others among its memberhship.

Audio-visual records

The series consists of audio-visual records documenting various elements of Wiseman's career as a writer and public figure. It includes recordings of Wiseman reading her own poetry as well as interviews with her. It also contains recordings of poetry readings by poets including Lillian Allen, bill bissett, Robert Priest, Susan Musgrave, b.p. Nichol and Earle Birney among others.

'What' magazine files

The series consists of the administrative files of 'What', including financial statements and budgets, records of expenses, contracts, advertising information, clippings, correspondence, press releases and other material related to the ongoing operation of the magazine; submissions which includes typescript copies of stories sent to 'What', story ideas, writers' invoices, 'What' guidelines and writer's files which are a series of files arranged alphabetically which contain correspondence, stories and clippings pertaining to particular authors.

Writing and production files

The series consists of correspondence, research material, notes, contracts, and manuscript and typescript drafts of Sherman's plays including "A Place Like Pamela," "Three in the Back, Two in the Head," "The League of Nathans," "Patience," "To Cry is Not So," "What the Russian's Say," "Field," "The Merchant of Showboat," "Quirt," "Reading Hebron," "The Retreat" and "It's All True," "An Acre of Time," "The Brothers Karamazov," "The Message," and others. It also includes copies of scripts containing revisions made during the production of his plays, correspondence and financial records related to these productions, and programs and reviews of the rehearsals and performances of these works. The series also includes correspondence, story ideas and outlines, proposals, research material, contracts, and typescript draft scripts for radio and television programmes including "P.M.O.", "National Affairs", "The Hard Wood," "Graf," "ReGenesis," "Afghanada," "Rosendorf Quartet," "Galileo," "Badlands," "After the Orchard," "Between Two Worlds," "Jonestown," "Murdoch Mysteries," "Zone of Separation," "Wrecking Ball," "Abbatoir," "Flashpoint," "Mind," "Last Hope," "The Rules," "Invectus," "Spadina," "Colder in the Suburbs," "Ronde-et-vous," "Blueprint," and "The Public Health," among others. The records pertaining to the production "Bloodletting and miraculous cures," based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Vincent Lam, are particularly comprehensive and include drafts, notes, correspondence, research files, and digital recordings of dailies, director's, producer's, and various other cuts of individual episodes. Among the earlier writings represented in this series can be found copies of essays, articles and plays written by Sherman during his years in the Creative Writing Program at York University as well as typescript copies and clippings of several of his articles and reviews which have appeared in The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, Books in Canada and other publications.

Open College files

The series consists of personal and administrative files of Open College created and/or accumulated by Margaret Norquay including clippings, student packages, contracts, correspondence, notes, diaries, journals, reports and minutes from various projects and memorabilia documenting her role as its founder and as a professor. Series also includes drafts and scripts for Norquay's course "Ethnic Relations in Canada : Understanding People of Another Culture" and audio recordings, transcripts and notes from interviews conducted by Norquay with various ethnic groups as a part of her course work.

MA Thesis files

The series includes notes, drafts and resource material related to Norquay's M.A. Thesis, "A Study of a Community Recreation Council as an Agent of Social Change" as well as the completed thesis, original correspondence, photographs and clippings created and/or accumulated while Norquay was recreation director of the Dunville Recreational Council. Series also includes minutes of that council. Norquay's thesis was successfully submitted to the University of Toronto in partial fulfillment of her Master's degree but at the direction of her thesis supervisor was not deposited in the University of Toronto library on the grounds that it would be considered libelous.

Take 30 scripts

The series consists of typescript copies of scripts for the CBC program "Take 30" for which Norquay was a writer, researcher and broadcaster.

The series consists of research files, correspondence, drafts of scripts, casting lists, crew lists, publicity materials, and photographs relating to various television dramas produced by Bernard Zukerman. Projects documented include: "And Then You Die", 1986; "Skate!", 1987; "The Squamish Five", 1988; "Love and Hate: the Story of Colin and JoAnn Thatcher", 1990; "Dieppe", 1994; "Million Dollar Babies", 1994; "Net Worth", 1995; "The Sleep Room", 1998; "Revenge of the Land", 2000; "Heart: The Marily Bell Story", 2001 and others.

The series consists of scripts written by others and sent to Bernard Zukerman for his consideration.

The series consists of subject files created and compiled by Bernard Zukerman including diaries, income tax returns, financial statements, memorabilia and other material.

Audio-visual records

The series consists of audio visual recordings pertaining to Bernard Zukerman's television productions and including awards submissions, promotional videos, audition tapes, final broadcasts and ohter types of material.

Correspondence

The series consists of Ernesto Vinci's general professional correspondence with the editors of publications, broadcasters, publishers, festivals, governments and schools, and associations. There are also birthday and greeting cards to Vinci. Later accessions include some personal correspondence between Vinci and his wife, and friends.

Diaries and memoranda

The series consists of Ernesto Vinci's diaries for the period (incomplete), as well as memoranda, address books and related material.

Letters and reports

The series consists of reports and correspondence with the Banff School, music festivals, the Royal Conservatory, and related bodies.

Faculty of Music, University of Toronto

The series consists of notes on teaching methods employed at the school, registration cards, staff lists, examination and marking schemes, attendance lists and alumni membership lists.

Scrapbooks

The series consists of scrapbooks, arranged by subject and organized chronologically, for recitals and opera (1945-1977); additional scrapbooks are arranged alphabetically by subject (literature, war, world events).

Photographs

The series consists of personal photographs of Vinci and family and friends. Also included are photographs of Vinci and students at Banff and several unidentified photographs.

Biographical material

The series consists of Vinci's personal documents and correspondence related to his education and immigration to the United States as Ernst Wreszynski. Also includes newspaper clippings about Vinci and biographical sketches ready for publication. Later accessions include personal and family correspondence between Vinci and his wife, and Vinci and his parents and parents-in-law, and other relatives during the 1930s as they tried to escape Germany. There is some correspondence regarding Vinci's efforts to sponsor his sister-in-law and niece after the Second World War.

The series consists of programmes for concerts and recitals in several venues, as well as those for the University of Toronto, Faculty of Music concerts, Massey Hall, the Royal Alexandra Theatre, the Metropolitan Opera House (New York), and others.

The series consists of vocal and instrument catalogues from manufacturers and music publishers, Faculty of Music programmes, calendars, and related material.

Performances, concerts, exams

The series consists of programmes, pamphlets and notes for examinations, concerts and single performances, for the Faculty of Music, the Banff Centre, Dalhousie University musical auditorium, Royal Conservatory performance night, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Modern Library, Teatro Alla Scala, the New Music Concerts and others.

Literary manuscripts

The series consists of notes, drafts, proofs and cover art for his books Tales from Firozsha Baag, Such a Long Journey, A Fine Balance and Family Matters and the screenplay, production files, correspondence and promotional material related to the film adaptation of Such a Long Journey.

Awards, reading tours and promotional material

The series consists of correspondence, invitations, travel schedules, clippings and promotional material related to the publication of Mistry's work and to reading tours associated with it including his selection to the "Oprah Book Club". Series also includes material pertaining to the awards and nominations he received for his books.

The series consists of personal and professional correspondence including copies of letters received by Mistry from Leone Rook, John Metcalfe, Graeme Gibson, Alberto Manguel, Craig Stephenson, John Irving, Jane and Tony Urquhart, Pico Iyer, Louis de Berniers, Mavis Gallant, Greg Hollingshead, Michael Ondaatje, Greg Gatenby, David Staines and Steven Heighton among others and, in many cases, copies of letters written by Mistry himself.

Personal files

Series consists of correspondence, clippings, journals, notebooks, photographs, publications, ephemera, day planners, address books and other material documenting Swan's personal life and interests, in particular her early years as a student at Havergal College, as well as files pertaining to Swan's family. Some notebooks contain notes on Swan’s writing projects as well as personal diary entries.

Series consists of personal and professional correspondence and e-mail, sent and received by Swan.

Academic and teaching files

Series pertains to Swan's work as an instructor at York University and her tenure process, her position as the Millennial Robarts Chair in Canadian Studies for 1999-2000, her work for the Writers' Union of Canada, and her public lectures. Records in this series include course materials, teaching proposals, official York University publications, and lecture notes.

Manuscripts and related files

Series consists of drafts and proofs of articles, poems, plays, short stories, essays and novels written by Swan, including "Unfit for Paradise", "The Biggest Modern Woman of the World", "The Last of the Golden Girls", "The Wives of Bath", "Stupid Boys Are Good to Relax With", "What Casanova Told Me", "The Western Light" (previously titled "Black Ships" and "The Hockey Killer"), and "The Dead Celebrities Club". Series also includes research material and notes pertaining to Swan's writing projects, correspondence with publishers and collaborators, lecture notes pertaining to Swan's book tours, promotional material for several of her books, as well as screenplays for the proposed and/or produced films of "The Biggest Modern Woman of the World" and "The Wives of Bath".

Correspondence and subject files

Series consists of chronologically arranged subject files and/or scrapbooks that were maintained by Christie on an annual basis between the years 1913 and 1984. The material up to 1959 was maintained in bound scrapbooks following which they were maintained as loose material in file folders. In both cases, they contain clippings, reviews, programs, miscellaneous correspondence, photographs and ephemera that document Christie's personal and/or professional life. The early scrapbooks contain Christie's record of Baptism as well as report cards from Riverdale Collegiate and programmes related to his early acting career at Hart House Theatre while he was a student at the University of Toronto. Included are records of Christie's acting career in London, England where he acted as part of the company of the Old Vic among other companies and of his acting career in Canada where he was a long term member of the New Play Society and the Stratford Shakespearean Festival company.

Scripts and production files

Series consists of scripts, notes, photographs, articles and clippings related to various theatre productions, television and radio shows with which Christie was involved. It includes material related to productions of "The dream," "Here lies Sarah Binks," "Sweeney Todd" and "Sir John A. MacDonald." It also contains published copies of plays annotated by Christie that demonstrate stage directions and other comments related to his portrayal of his characters in these plays.

Diaries

The series consists of chronologically arranged diaries or agendas that contain a record of Christie's day to day appointments and activities.

Jane Mallet and Associates files

Series consists of files containing correspondence, financial records, memos, legal documents and other material related to Christie's involvement with Jane Mallet and Associates, the production company for which Christie was a partner along with Jane Mallet and Don Harron. It contains a considerable amount of correspondence between Harron and Christie related to the staging of various productions including Earle Birney's "Turvey" and to Chrisite's portrayals of Sir John A. MacDonald as part of the Canadian Centennial Commission's celebration of the centenary.

Professorial files

Series primarily consists of selected monologues and other pieces of theatre used by Christie while teaching acting at Ryerson Polytechnic Institute. It also consists of programmes, posters and other material related to theatre productions by Christie's students and lecture notes, course outlines and resource material related to Christie's teaching subjects.

Financial records

Series consists of contracts signed by Christie for engagements in theatre, television, radio and advertising as well as copies of Christie's income tax returns for the years 1937 to 1986.

Christie family files

Series consists of correspondence, yearbooks, family histories, photographs, collected memorabilia and ephemera related to Christie's immediate and extended family. Aside from more general files, it also contains groups of files specifically related to Chrsitie's father David Wallace Christie, to his ex wife Granier Mortimer Christie and to the Stacey family as well as ephemera in the form of identification cards, awards and certificates belonging to Christie and correspondence exchanged with Margot Christie while Christie was serving with the Canadian Army. There is also information regarding Christie's death including a series of journals kept by his caretaker towards the end of his life.

Audio visual records

Series consists of various sound recordings of Christie's performances, of talks by him or interviews with him during his years as an actor. It includes copies of music recorded by Christie including recordings of performances by his daughter Dinah Christie both alone and with Christie himself.There is also a recording on which Christie reflects upon his family history.

Correspondence and subject files

The series consists of personal and professional correspondence including manuscript and typescript copies of letters received by Powe, copies of letters written by Powe, as well as printed copies of incoming and outgoing e-mail. It includes correspondence with friends, students, publishers, fellow writers and academics, among them R. Murray Shafer, Don DeLillo, Gary Geddes, Susan Swan, John Ralston Saul, Joe Keogh, John Robert Colombo, Eric McLuhan and Pierre Trudeau. Series also consists of subject files containing clippings, publicity material, audio recordings, video cassettes, photographs, brochures, notes and other material pertaining to speaking engagements, conferences such as the "Trudeau Era Conference" and "Rethinking McLuhan", and York University's Living Literacies Initiative, Foundation and Endeavour (LLIFE).

The series consists of material which documents Powe's personal life and his relationship with his family. It includes correspondence, photographs, legal and medical records and other collected ephemera.

The series consists of research material, notes, drafts and manuscripts of Powe's published and unpublished works including his books "A Climate Changed" (1984), "Noise of Time" (1989), "A Tremendous Canada of Light" (1993), "Outage: A Journey Into Electric City" (1995), "The Solitary Outlaw: Trudeau, Lewis, Gould, Canetti, McLuhan", "Mystic Trudeau" (1997), "Towards a Canada of Light" (2006), "These Shadows Remain" (2011), his 2009 PhD thesis, "Apocalypse and alchemy: visions of Marshall McLuhan and Northrop Frye", the reworked and published version of his PhD thesis, "Marshall McLuhan and Northrop Frye: Apocalypse and Alchemy" (2014), "Where Seas and Fables Meet" (2015), and "Decoding Dust" (2016). It also includes drafts and/or printed copies of numerous reviews, essays and articles written by or about him, and drafts pertaining to the "Opening Time: On the Energy Threshold" collaborative project. Series also includes correspondence with publishers and fellow writers such as Irving Layton, Hugh Kenner and J.G. Ballard in reference to his work, publicity material for several of his books, and copies of journals and magazines in which Powe's work appeared.

Academic and teaching files

The series consists of course/lecture notes, research materials, correspondence, course syllabi, teaching proposals, course evaluations, official York University publications and other material related to Powe's instruction of courses at York University and Humber College, his position as Academic Advisor at Winter's College, the completion of his PhD, his applications for tenure and promotion, and his work as coordinator of the Creative Writing Program at York University. Also documented in this series are Powe's activities while a visiting scholar at IN3, University of Catalunya, Barcelona.

The series consists of notebooks and journals kept by Powe in which he documented his thoughts and reflected on both his personal life and on works in progress. Also included are calendars on which Powe recorded appointments and other scheduled events.

The series consists of personal and professional correspondence, publicity material, copies of articles written by or about Clark including correspondence with Steven Heighton, Wallace King, Greg Gatenby, Joe Kertes, Catherine Bush, Katherine Govier, Leone Rooke, Diane Shoemperlen and others.

Writings files

The series consists of research material, notes, drafts and manuscript copies of Clark's novel "Bite the stars" including drafts edited by Cynthia Holz and Iris Tupholme. The series also includes manuscript and typescript drafts of shorter works by Clark as well as an audio recording of "Pride and Joy" which was adapted as a radio drama for CBC's Morningside.

Correspondence files

The series consists of personal and professional correspondence including manuscript and typescript copies of letters as well as e-mail received by Coles. It also includes many copies of letters or e-mails written by Coles himself. The series includes family correspondence as well as correspondence with writers such as Christopher Wiseman, Liliane Welch, Guy Vanderhaeghe, Al Purdy, P.K. Page, Steven Heighton, Ralph Gustafson, Adele Wiseman, John Metcalf, David O'Meara, Robyn Sarah, Jan Ruzesky, Betty Jane Wylie, Robert Fulford, Carol Shields, Philip Grover and Tomas Transtromer among others.

Writing files

The series consists of notes, drafts and proofs of collected and uncollected poems written by Coles including manuscript drafts of his collections "K in love," "The prinzhorn collection," "Forest of the medieval world," "Kurgan," and "How we all swiftly," among others. It contains research material, notes and drafts of his novel "Doctor Bloom's story," his autobiographical work "A dropped glove in Regent Street," a poetry collection "Where we might have been," correspondence with publishers, interviews with Coles, reviews of his work, publicity material related to his writing, and book reviews written for "The Globe and mail." It also includes the manuscript for Tomas Transtomer's "For the living and the dead," which Coles translated from Swedish as well as correspondence between Coles and Tomas and Monica Transtromer regarding this work.

Academic and teaching files

Series consists of material that documents Coles' academic career at the University of Toronto and Cambridge University, as well as his years spent as a professor in the Department of Humanities at York University in Toronto. It includes copies of essays, as well as manuscript and typescript notes taken by Coles while he was a student. Included are notes taken by Coles while completing course work with Northrop Frye, advice from Frye regarding an academic career in 1964, his rough first draft of his M.A. thesis, and columns and reports for the University of Toronto Daily Press. It also contains course files related to Coles' work as professor. These files consist of course outlines, reading lists, lecture notes, clippings related to course material, correspondence related to his teaching and other material that documents the ongoing development and delivery of the courses Man in Search, Concepts of Love, Early Times : Literature and the Imagination of the Child, Myth and the Arts and Works & Days. Records also include annotated working copies of monographs used in his courses and certificates received pertaining to his academics and teaching.

Editorial files

Series consists of material that documents Coles work as a literary editor and critic and includes contracts, correspondence, course timetables, critiques of students' work and other material that documents his tenure as poetry editor of "The May Studio" at the Banff Centre for the Fine Arts. It also includes drafts of works by other writers sent to Coles for his comments and criticism including manuscripts of work by Michael Redhill, Stephanie Bolster, Richard Sanger, Mark Sinnett and John Bemrose, among others, as well as material that demonstrates Coles' work as poetry judge of the Canadian Literary Awards and the CBC Literary Awards. This material consists of submissions bearing notes and comments by Coles.

Financial Records

Consists of royalty statements, letters of permission, contracts, correspondence with agents and other material that documents financial transactions related to the sales and marketing of Mistry's work.

Correspondence files

Series consists of personal and professional correspondence consisting of manuscript and typescript copies of letters received by Axelrod and, in many cases, copies of letters written by Axelrod himself.

Academic files

Series consists of Axelrod's high school, undergraduate and graduate school essays, speeches, drafts of articles written for student newspapers and other materials that document his involvement with student organizations including the Council of the York Student Federation, the Ontario Federation of Students and the Ontario Union of Students, as well as his research interest in post-secondary education and the student union movement. These records include publications, papers, articles and news releases.

Professorial files

Series consists of records documenting Axelrod's career as a university professor and administrator. Many records pertain in particular to his role as Dean of the Faculty of Education at York University between 2001 and 2008, as well as his work on committees (Ontario Association of Deans of Education, Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations). Included are correspondence, job applications, course outlines and student evaluations for courses taught by Axelrod, copies of research grant applications, past tenure files, photographs, reports, speeches, assessments, conference materials, newspaper and magazine articles.
