VisionTV

Series consists of records created and accumulated by Peter Flemington as co-founder and Head of Programming and Development of VisionTV. Vision TV was the world’s first multifaith and multicultural national television channel which went on air in September 1988. Records in this series document the transition from the Canadian Interfaith Network, preparation for the successful application to the CRTC for a television license in 1987, planning for the channel’s launch in the fall of 1988 and subsequent day-to-day operations of the channel.

Includes: minutes, briefs, memos, policy documents, correspondence; programming files; CRTC applications and submissions; promotional materials including posters, press kits, viewer guides, press releases, and clippings; and files related to external partnerships and collaborations including the development of a new channel named Wisdom (“Canada’s Body, Mind, and Spirit”), later renamed ONE.

Pay-TV: Reports

File consists of three reports on the topic of Pay-Television: "Future Mass Media" by Gordon B. Thompson for the Royal Commission on Violence in the Communications Industry (1976); "Developping an Effective Approach to Pay Television in Canada" by Canadian Cablesystems Ltd., Premier Cablevision Ltd. and Rogers Cable TV Ltd. (May 1975); and "Pay Television in Canada: The CBC's View" by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (Oct. 1976).

Rita Deverell : recognition and work on LaMarsh Royal Commission on Violence

File consists of: press clippings related to Rita Deverell, on-air network host and director of production at VisionTV; a report on the Children's Television Project, circa 1975; and briefs written by Deverell to the LaMarsh Commission on "Violence in the Communications Industry" with specific reference to children and television, 1975; and a media announcement of Deverell's move to the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN), 2002.

File consists of a notes, outline and draft script for a video written and directed by Flemington to assist United Church personnel who are being interviewed on television.
