Deanship : becoming Dean : 2001

File consists of correspondence sent and received by Axelrod pertaining to his application for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Education, as well as notes for his interviews and the text of his presentation to the Faculty on 4 May 2001. Included is a document written by Axelrod about his recollections regarding the process of becoming the Dean.

Item is an annotated draft text, "Opportunity and uncertainty: life course experiences of the class of '73", prepared by Axelrod for presentation at the 2000 conference of the Canadian History of Education Association.

Jewish teacher education : Faculty of Education

Item is a publication produced by the Centre for Jewish Studies at York University, entitled "Teaching teachers: inaugurating the Koschitzky Chair in Jewish teacher education" by Alex Pomson, Michael Brown and Sydney Eisen.

File consists of records pertaining to the York University Division of Social Science retreat held on 21 Apr. 1998, including a copy of the Division's plan for July 1998 to July 2002, a retreat itinerary, a paper by Judy Hellman, and a copy of Axelrod's paper entitled "Does liberal education have a future?". Included are background materials including a Division of Social Science program review.

File consists of correspondence and two drafts of a proposal, written by Axelrod, Robert Gidney and Winnifred Millar, to write a history of the University of Toronto, submitted to the University of Toronto History Committee of the University of Toronto Press. A note in the file by Axelrod indicates that Martin Friedland got the contract to write the book, published in 2002.

File consists of a letter sent to Axelrod by J. Donald Wilson, accompanied by his review of Axelrod's book, "The promise of schooling", which was published in the journal "Historical studies in education".

Publication : McGill paper : revisions for higher education perspectives

File consists of correspondence, revision notes, and Axelrod's draft paper, "McGill University on the landscape of Canadian higher education: historical reflections", which he delivered to the James McGill Society on 29 April 1996 and offered for publication to McGill University. Included are overhead transparencies from his presentation, as well as a program for the event.

File consists of an issue of the February 1995 alumni newsletter of the York University Graduate Programme in History, as well as a 17 November 1997 memorandum from Viv Nelles regarding questions for the Canadian history field examination, drafted in part by Axelrod.

File consists of notes, an interim report, an agenda, charts, a brochure and a study pertaining to the Westview Partnership, a program involving York University, Seneca College, the Toronto District School Board and the surrounding Jane-Finch community to improve access to post-secondary education.
