Fonds consists of records created by Sig Gerber in his role as producer of several series for the CBC. Gerber's production responsibilities included overseeing the creative aspects involved with story proposals, research, script writing, and direction for each episode, as well as the management of technical components and financial resources. The fonds contains other documents related to the series' production, including reports, correspondence, meeting notes, handwritten notes, scripts, videocassettes, and promotional items, as well as reports on the CBC's broadcasting policies and the network's promotional material. Also included in this fonds are materials pertaining to Gerber's work as a trainer for the CBC Training and Development Department, miscellaneous internal CBC memoranda (1968-1996), and a file of ephemera and photographs from Gerber's time working at CHUM Radio in Toronto (1961-1964).

Audiovisual materials

Series consists of moving image recordings accumulated by Gerber. These materials are primarily clips of major 20th century news events as well as CBC television programs on which Gerber worked as a producer. Also included is an audio cassette of a Marshall McLuhan interview.

File consists of resource materials pertaining to the history of investigative journalism, used by Gerber for preparing the CBC's investigative journalism workshops.

File consists of training materials and notes for Gerber's trip to Bosnia-Herzegovina to teach an investigative journalism workshop.

Training materials

Series consists of textual records and audiovisual materials pertaining to Gerber’s work as a trainer and educator in television journalism and production for the CBC Training and Development Department and for Ryerson University’s School of Journalism. Subject areas taught include investigative journalism, reporting for television, and television documentary. Included in this series are CBC training manuals, Gerber’s course lecture notes, handouts and outlines, and videocassettes containing sample news footage and clips, mostly from the CBC, used in his training sessions and courses. Lecture notes from talks given by Gerber as a guest speaker and/or workshop leader are also part of the series.

War and conflict

File consists of credits, scripts, notes and invoices pertaining to a CBC program entitled "Inside information: stories from the war zone", for which Gerber served as series producer.

Secrets

File consists of Gerber's notes, newspaper clippings, correspondence and a proposal pertaining to an investigative program entitled "Secrets".

Promotion : 1979-80

File consists of promotional materials for CBC TV program "Take 30", executive-produced by Gerber, as well as audience research for the program, and a copy of the 1981 inaugural Graham Spry Lecture by Harry Boyle.

Notes and memos

Photographs are promotional portraits of "Market Place" hosts Bill Paul and Jacquie Perrin and "Take 30" hosts Harry Brown and Hana Gartner.

European Journalist Tour of USA 1972

File consists of correspondence, forms, itineraries, guest lists and background materials pertaining to Gerber's participation in this tour, sponsored by the United States government, conducted from 14 February to 17 March 1972. Included are John Lindsay for President promotional materials.

CHUM material

File consists of memoranda, letterhead, promotional materials and ephemera collected by Gerber during his employment at 1050 CHUM Radio in the early 1960s. Included are photographs of Dick Clark and Annette Funicello in Toronto on a promotional tour, with CHUM radio hosts Mike Darrow, Bob McAdorey, Brian Skinner, Bob Laine, Dave Johnson, John Spragge, Al Boliska and Larry Solway, as well as station ephemera and pamphlets, including copies of the "CHUM chart" of weekly top 40 songs (1961-1964), and a 1960 CHUM progress report. A programme for a 1964 production of Hamlet, starring Richard Burton, at the O'Keefe Centre for the Performing Arts, is also included in the file.

50th anniversary : general file

File pertains to "Inside Information", a three-part television program produced by Gerber to commemorate the 50th anniversary of CBC TV news.
