Periodicals

Series consists of Greek language newspapers, magazines and journals accumulated by George Papadatos primarily during his time in Canada and relating to his work as a journalist and editor as well as to his interest in politics and his position as an active member of the Greek Canadian community cultural and political scene. The majority of the newspapers in the series were produced by and for the Greek Canadian community in Toronto and include a number of political and satirical publications as well as ones providing local news. Series includes issues of the newspaper Metanastis (The Immigrant), owned and produced by Papadatos, as well as Ta Nea, to which he contributed articles and served as editor for a time. A number of the newspapers in the collection were published by Deca printing house (owned by Dimitrius Aivalis) who played an important role in the Toronto Greek Canadian community as printer of many publications and ephemera relating to cultural and political, anti-dictatorship, events. Series also includes a variety of publications relating to the Greek diaspora across Canada and globally, including a few English-language publications that contain articles relating to Greek politics and culture, particularly items relating to the Trojan Horse coffee house.

File consists of pamphlets and newsletters produced by various political and cultural organizations, mostly within Canada, including the KKE (Communist Party of Greece), the Greek Democratic Association, Concordia University Greek Students Association, the Greek Cultural Association (Chicago), including a booklet of a speech by George Papadopoulos. File includes a satirical newsletter, το λάχανο/η λαχαγιs

Ta Nea = A Greek-Canadian Bi-monthly Review (Toronto). (1 of 2)

File consists of issues of Ta Nea, a newspaper to which Papadatos contributed. Ta Nea was published by Dimitrius Aivalis, owner of Deca printing house. Deca printed many of the materials (publications and promotional materials such as flyers and posters) relating to the Greek-Canadian community, thus providing considerable support to the community and the anti-dictatorship movement in Toronto. Contains issues 1, 3-4, 6-10,12-14, 22-23, 29; plus Ta Nea ΕΜΠΗΠΟ ΚΑΝΑDΙΚΑ No. 6 and two issues of TA NEA Ward 8 News (in English)

Publications, Greek language and culture education in Toronto

File consists of a booklet promoting the Modern Greek Language Programme at University of Toronto, an analysis of the Greek language curriculum for public schools by the Greek Community of Metropolitan Toronto, ΝΕΟΙ ΟΡΙΖΟΝΤΕΣ (an educational review), and a booklet from the Lyceum of Folklore Studies.

Songs of Struggle – Compañeros and other resistance songbooks

File consists of Songs of Struggle, a songbook of Greek and Latin American songs of resistance edited and translated by George Papadatos, as well as Canciones de la Resistencia Popular Chilena (a booklet of Chilean resistance songs) and Dedicado a Mi Pais by Compañeros lead singer, Marcelo Puente.

MNHMH ΑΝΔΡΕΑ ΠΑΠΑΝΔΡΕΟΥ 1964-1981

File consists of a copy of “Memory of Andreas Papandreou” a publication produced in conjunction with an exhibition (at Zappeio Megara June 22-30, 1998) commemorating the accomplishments of Papandreou from his entry into politics in 1964 to PASOK’s victory in 1981. George Papadatos is noted as a contributor of archival material to the exhibition.

File consists of two flyers advertising events hosted by George Papadatos in collaboration with the Greek Canadian History Project , drawing upon his archival holdings.

Commercial CDs and DVDs

File consists of four commercially produced CDs (some of which appear to be promotional copies, distributed by newspapers such as Ta Nea) and one commercial DVD. The discs’ content mostly relates to the Polytechnic Uprising. One is a CD of music. There is also a chronicle of the military Junta 1965-1974.

Series consists of photographs of, by or collected by George Papadatos and pertain to events held by the Toronto Greek-Canadian community during the 1970s TO 1990s, such as musical performances, dances, the Toronto coffee house scene, political meetings and rallies, parades. Some photographs relating to the Trojan Horse coffee house can also be found in the scrapbook in 2014-044/001(10).
