Accession consists of correspondence, draft manuscripts, research notes, page proofs, itineraries, newspaper and magazine articles, promotional material, photographs, and financial documents relating to Rohinton Mistry’s work as an author, 1987-2012, including acceptance of literary awards and fellowships, media interviews, his relationship with his literary agent and publishers, requests for promotional text for works by other authors, participation in literary festivals and conferences, his service on PEN Canada’s Board of Directors, conferral of honorary degrees, requests for speaking engagements and to contribute essays to various publications, burning of copies of Such a Long Journey by the Shiv Sena party, responses to readers’ mail, adaptation of Mistry’s novels for theatre and radio, visits to India, study of his novels by university students, reviews of his novels by international literary critics, and the film shoot of Such a Long Journey in India. The accession also includes: audio and video recordings of media interviews; Mistry’s readings of his work; his convocation address at the University of Toronto, 1999; audiobooks of Mistry’s novels on tape cassettes and compact discs; and printed first editions of translations of novels, book club editions, and anthologies that contain an essay or excerpt from a literary work by Mistry.
