General correspondence : January, 1986 to June, 1986

File consists of correspondence sent and received by Ruby regarding a variety of topics, including letters from prisoners and others seeking his opinion or help, requests for employment, complaint letters sent by Ruby, letters between lawyers regarding legal cases, and letters of congratulations for his representation of Guy Paul Morin. Personal correspondence pertaining to home renovations, personal finances and letters sent to friends is also in this file. Also included is related memoranda, legal documents, journal articles, newspaper clippings, notes, and a magazine.

File consists predominantly of correspondence sent and received by Clayton Ruby, including invitations to events and conferences, applications for employment, letters requesting legal representation, Ruby's letters to the editor of the Globe & Mail, recommendation letters written by Ruby, his complaint letters, as well as correspondence regarding legal cases and Ruby's personal expenses and purchases. Also included in this file are newspaper clippings, legal documents, notes, interoffice memoranda, draft papers, photographs, and government bills. Some of these records document Ruby's involvement as a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada's discipline committee, his membership in the Writers' Union of Canada, and his activism regarding abortion rights and access to abortions.

Records in this file document Ruby's membership in the Writers' Union of Canada and his legal writing in general, his involvement in a Law Society of Upper Canada bencher election and his work on anti-nuclear weapons campaigns.

Also documented in this correspondence is Ruby's involvement with abortion rights and his media appearances on that subject, travel arrangements, his work as a criminal defence lawyer (for the Morgentaler Clinic and Barbara Dodd), his anti-nuclear weapon activism, his position as a bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada and his column in the Toronto Star.
