Fonds consists of records documenting Bruce Allen Powe's work as a writer of fiction, reviews and articles, his work as Executive Director for the Ontario Liberal Association, and his public relations career and freelance work for Powe Communications. Records include journals, day planners, notebooks, correspondence and e-mail, research files, scrapbooks, manuscripts and other draft writing, and career-related memorabilia. Also included in the fonds are family photographs and personal memorabilia; Powe's M.A. diploma, thesis and related research files; files, memorabilia and photographs pertaining to his World War II military service; and photographs, memorabilia and other records pertaining to Powe's trip to Ghana in March 1957 as associate private secretary to the Canadian Minister of Mines and Technical Surveys.

Accession consists of records documenting Powe's writing career in the 1990s and 2000s, particularly the writing, editing, publication and promotion of his novel "Aldershot 1945" and the reprint and stage productions of "The Aberhart Summer", as well as records pertaining to his freelance work for Powe Communications and his personal life and family. Records in this accession include manuscripts and other draft writing, photographs of Powe and his family, research files, notebooks and day planners, memorabilia (including newspaper and magazine clippings), printed e-mail and correspondence, posters, drawings, scrapbooks and videocassettes.

“The Ice Eaters”

File consists of correspondence, a reprint proposal, and royalty statements pertaining to Powe’s novel “The Ice Eaters”. Also included is the April/May 1985 issue of “The Idler”, which features an excerpt from “The Ice Eaters”.

File consists of contact lists and correspondence pertaining to the book launch for “The Ice Eaters” held at the University of Toronto Bookroom in October 1987.

Literary Review of Canada reviews

File pertains to a 2004 book review written by Powe for the Literary Review of Canada. Records include review drafts, a copies of the published review, printed copies of e-mail exchanged with editors Bronwyn Drainier and Robin Roger, notes, newspaper clippings, and an invoice. Included is a letter from B.W. Powe regarding an introduction to Robin Roger.

Polnov : correspondence and memoranda

File pertains to a political novel by Powe, variously entitled as “Any Warm Body” and “The Split Vote”, and his efforts (with literary agent Beverley Slopen) to find a publisher for the book. Records include correspondence with publishers, Powe’s memoranda to file, notes, and a manuscript evaluation by Greg Ioannou. Some correspondence and memoranda pertains to Powe’s research questions posed to politicians including Ralph Ferguson, Murray Elston, and Royce Frith.

File consists of Powe’s handwritten notes pertaining to research and planning for a new novel.

Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association [CLHIA] articles and brochures

File pertains to Powe's work as Director of Public Relations and later Vice-President of Public Affairs for the Association. Also included is a notebook belonging to Powe entitled Tax reform diary (1988), business cards, Association circulars about special events, and notes by Powe on the role of a trade association.

Manuscript evaluation (TWUC)

File pertains to a Writers’ Union of Canada manuscript evaluation workshop attended by Powe. Records include his notes, sample evaluation forms, and pamphlets.

New agreement with Access Copyright

File consists of correspondence, distribution reports, printed e-mail and Powe’s publication list pertaining to Access Copyright, the Canadian copyright licensing agency.

Norwich Union history

File pertains to Powe’s research for and writing of a history of the Norwich Union Life Insurance Company. Records include a photograph of Powe in front of the company’s building, newspaper clippings, and typescript notes from interviews with executives and managers.

File pertains to Powe’s travels with his wife, Alys, to Alberta and British Columbia in August 1992. Included in the file is correspondence, itineraries, brochures and facsimiles.

Memorandum from Keith Davey

Item is a memorandum from Keith Davey, the national campaign director for the Liberal Federation of Canada, sent to Lester B. Pearson and Walter Gordon, praising Powe for his work and attendance at a Saskatchewan Campaign College. Included is a joke Diefendollar bill.
