Fonds consists of records documenting Terrill Maguire’s dance and choreography career, the formation and management of her dance and music festival, Inde, as well as her work as an instructor in the dance department of York University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. These records include correspondence, day planners, grant applications, proposals, course materials, contracts, memorabilia, photographs, videocassettes, audio reels, cassettes and compact discs.

Programmes

File consists of theatre, music and dance programmes, often annotated by Maguire, pertaining to shows she reviewed while living in New York City.

Memorabilia and photographs

Series consists of photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings, posters, performance notices and programmes, newsletters, certificates, press releases, CVs and biographies pertaining to Maguire’s career as a dancer, choreographer and teacher.

Project files

Series consists of records pertaining to Maguire’s activities as a dancer, choreographer, teacher and arts organizer. These records, which include grant applications, photographs, letters of agreement, correspondence, proposals and notes, document Maguire’s work as an instructor in dance in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the York University, her independent choreography and dance projects, and her involvement with community arts education and dance instruction.

Improvisation material

File consists of dance class exercise instructions, choreography notes, a performance script and a course syllabus for a 1976 composition class (FA/DA 410) taught by Maguire at York University.

Day planners

Series consists of day planners maintained by Maguire pertaining to her personal and professional activities. Also part of this series is an address book.

Performance agreement

Item is an unsigned agreement between Terrill Maguire and the Toronto Dance Theatre regarding the acquisition of Maguire's dance piece "Raining Heart".

Series consists of video recordings of Maguire’s dancing and choreography, as well as audio recordings of the accompanying music used in rehearsal and performance.

Lunatic phases : photographs

File consists of photographs of a dance performance entitled "Lunatic phases", by Reinhard Ritzenstein with Maguire and composer Gayle Young, performed at the University of Guelph in 1981. Included is a description of the piece and biographies of the performers.

File consists of correspondence, notes, budgets and contact lists pertaining to organization for Inde '85 and its corporate sponsors.

Inde Festival files

Series pertains to the organization and development of the Inde Festival of New Music and Dance, which was created in 1985 by Maguire and ran until 1992. These records include correspondence, financial statements, photographs, press releases, programmes, grant applications, proposals, contracts, notes and promotional materials. Also included in this series are administrative files pertaining to Maguire’s subsequent organization, Inde Multidisciplinary Arts Projects.

Inde '85

File consists of programmes, flyers, photographs, press releases, press clippings and a poster pertaining to Inde '85.

Payment receipts

File consists of receipts for Maguire's grants received from the Canada Council in 1988 and a 1985 receipt for a performance payment from Harbourfront.

Susan Musgrave letters

File consists of copies of letters written by poet Susan Musgrave to Stephen Reid, sent to Maguire from Musgrave.

Inde : correspondence and contract

File consists of a letter and contract sent to Maguire from Allan Mattes, director of the CCMC Music Gallery, regarding the Music Gallery's participation in Inde '85. Also included is a 1992 letter written by Maguire regarding the goals of the Inde festival.

File consists of student papers from Selma Odom's York University course on movement (1930.06). These papers examine performances from the Inde '85 festival.

Terrill Maguire : "Hold me" and "Molly"

Item is a video recording of two dance pieces choreographed by Maguire featuring dancers Ann Ditchburn and Donald Dawson. Videocassette was submitted as part of a grant application to the Canada Council.

File consists of correspondence sent to Maguire regarding her two successful applications for funding: to study with Bella Lewitzky at the Dance Gallery in Los Angeles and to particpate in a dance project entitled The Coal Forest. Included in the file is a budget sheet pertaining to The Coal Forest.

Correspondence with Tom W. Scurfield

File consists of a letter to Maguire from Scurfield, the manager of the Performing Arts Department of Harbourfront, regarding her performance in Harbourfront's Premiere Dance Theatre, as well as her draft letters of response.

Expo '86 certificate of recognition

Item is a certificate issued to Maguire and signed by Bruce Howe, Commissioner General of Section for Canada, for her performance at the Canada Pavilion during Expo '86 in Vancouver.
