Scope and content
File consists of newspaper clippings and correspondence related to the 1972 Canadian Federal Election. It includes articles on Prepas’ nomination as the New Democratic Party Candiate for Trinity Riding and articles on other NDP candidates, the fringe party Action Canada, other political parties and issues important to that year’s elections, which included the auto industry, bilingualism and Canada’s place on the world stage. The clippings also include Prepas’ letter to the editor of the Toronto Star, titled ‘Elections are near – and Ottawa has rediscovered its senior citizens.’ File also includes a letter and envelope from Ben Sugarman, a disabled war veteran who operated a newspaper clipping service from his home, regarding donations to assist in his continued work.
