A possible approach' [1971?]. Included in the fonds are speeches delivered while he was engaged in the Jehovah Witness program and talks on religious topics, copies of the 'Yearbook of the Jehovah's Witnesses,' (1945-1976); several editions of 'New World translation of the Holy Scriptures,' (1955-1970), several Witness tracts, incomplete runs of 'Awake,' (1949-1984) including bound volumes (1961-1972), 'Informant,' (1949-1954), 'Kingdom ministry,' (1957-1972), and 'The watchtower,' (1936-1984, incomplete run) and bound copies (1961-1972 - complete runs). In addition, there are reports of the Assembly of Jehovah's Witnesses (1946-1969), as well as song books, pamphlets and related material. For the Process Church of the Final Judgement, there are copies of 'Foundation,' and pamphlets including 'The Processeans,' [newsletter] (1972-1974). Also included is a photocopied (corrected in hand) typewritten manuscript by Barker of 'The time of the end: on the trail of the Final Age: Victorian to Aquarian' (1971-1973) and a photocopied, typewritten manuscript of Barker's 'The king of the North and the king of the South: apocalypticism and international politics' (1972-1975), both of which were unpublished.

The material from these interviews and the transcripts formed the basis for Buck's memoir, 'Yours in the struggle,'and covers the rise of the Communist Party of Canada, Buck's relations with Communists in the Soviet Union and other places, and the denunciation of Stalin in 1956 at the 20th International Congress.

Included are interviews with Hazen Argue, William Irvine, David Lewis, Tommy Douglas, Grace McInness, Frank Underhill, and Tim Buck. The interviews were conducted in 1961 for a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio broadcast, titled “Socialism in Canada,” and was broadcast in July, 1961.

The fonds consists of a typescript copy, with handwritten corrections, of 'Accommodation with Empire: Canadian American economic relations, 1945-1950,' by Robert D. Cuff and J.L. Granatstein which was published in 1978 by Samuel Stevens Hackkert & Co., under the title 'American dollars-Canadian prosperity: Canadian-American economic relations, 1945-1950,' and correspondence and readers reports relating to the book.

They include portraits of Kurt Czasch and members of the German Army, civilians (possibly relatives?), photographs of environments where he was stationed, movement of troops and material, photographs of dead soldiers, prison camps, military life and related themes. The photographs are of the 'snapshot' variety.

Danny Grossman's personal correspondence with family, friends, and industry professionals is also included in the fonds.

Fonds consists of a typescript of Marc Egnal's "A mighty empire: the origins of the American Revolution," which was published in 1988. It includes a set of lists and tabulations of pre-revolutionary 'factions'.

The fonds consists records of R.M. Fowler, including reports, correspondence, transcripts of hearing and related material from the Royal Commission on Dominion-Provincial Relations (Rowell-Sirois). This includes summary of the hearings (1937-1940), and transcripts of private sittings with the Manitoba and New Brunswick delegations (1938). In addition, there is material from Commission staff in the form of memoranda (1937-1938), precis of discussions (1938-1939), bibliographies and Orders-in-Council, tax forms and notes and estimates relating to unemployment in Canada (1938-1939). There are also copies of several reports issued by the Commission on the taxing power in Canada, debt adjustment, excise duties, and studies of federal systems in other countries.

The fonds consists of business receipts of Henry Gilchrist and family members, correspondence from Manitoba College, a genealogy of Henry McCuaig and Janet Calder (Gilchrist ancestors), photographs of Mrs. Henry Gilchrist and of Reverend James Archibald Hume Pue-Gilchrist, and related material.

The fonds consists of Harry Knowles Girling's records pertaining to his activities at York University. It includes reports, minutes and related material from several University committees including the Interim Curriculum Committee, 1961, and the Senate Curriculum Committee, 1962, the Council of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and the English Department. In addition there is a copy proof of 'Five heroic plays,' (1960).

The fonds consists of raw material collected for the York-Timmins Project conducted by a team of researchers led by Gold in 1981 and represent some 8000 hours of field work. Other team members included James DiGiacomo, Kathy Pirie, Peter Vasiliadis, Tanya Basok, A. Stewart, Lawrence Lam, and Michael Korovikin.

Original interviews were recorded although many were done without recording, notes only being taken. The tapes were not kept in order to honour promises made to the interviewees, however, detailed transcripts and edited transcripts of all tapes and notes were made and these include consistent marking of pauses, inflection and mood. Individuals from the following cultural and ethnic groups were interviewed: "pioneers" of the Porcupine Camp (Timmins and South Porcupine area); organizers of the Workers Cooperative (Ukrainian, Finnish, and British settlers); French-Canadian settlers and parish leaders; English mine settlers (both mine workers and managers); Italian settlers and community leaders; Chinese settlers and community leaders; Jewish settlers and community leaders; miscellaneous others.

In addition, there are photocopies and typed excerpts of articles from the 'Porcupine advance,' [newspaper] dealing with ethnic relations in the region, 1912-1950, and photocopies and typescripts of articles and essays dealing with ethnic communities in Timmins. There is also a photocopy of a mine company payroll for the year 1941.

The fonds also includes a large number of articles written by John D. Harbron for Canadian and international publications. The files belonging to Sheila Harbron contain personal records as well as genealogical research files, which include records and photographs tracing the Buck, Harbron, Hardy, Lester, Matheson, and Ryerson families.

Additionally, John D. Harbron's Cuban and Latin American book and pamphlet collection has been added to the Special Collections.

The research and publication files contain notes, drafts and research material related to the writing of "The limits of power, 1945-1954," co-authored with Joyce Kolko, "Anatomy of war : Vietnam, the United States, and the modern historical experience". It contains personal and professional correspondence including letters received from and, in many cases, copies of letters sent to Barrington Moore Jr., Renato Constantino, Paul Mattick, Peggy Duff, Maria Jolas, Stanford Ovshinsky, Saburo Kugai, Norman Thomas, Noam Chomsky, Herbert Marcuse and Ercich Jacoby, among others. It includes correspondence with publishers, drafts of essays and/or articles written by Kolko, reviews of his work and personal correspondence exchanged between Kolko and his wife, Joyce.
