Waffle - Manifestos, News

File consists of correspondence, speeches, booklets, pamphlets, event flyers, statements, protest ephemera, contact information, meeting minutes and agenda, newspaper clippings, proposed resolutions, a book preview and essays on the Waffle, its socialist background and its perspectives on Canadian industry and academia. It includes letters and drafts from John Smart, one of the founders of the Waffle Movement, who asked for comments from the Waffle communications committee prior to submitting articles about division in the Ontario New Democratic Party (ONDP) and the 1972 federal election to newspapers. File also includes the following booklets: ‘A socialist program for Canadian trade unionists’ (c. 1970s), the ‘Constitution and Resolutions’ of the ONDP (c. 1970s), the Regina Manifesto (1933), and ‘For a Socialist Ontario in an Independent Socialist Canada’ (1970). One copy of ‘For a Socialist Ontario’ contains Waffle member addresses and notice of a Waffle meeting in 1971. John D. Smart, a co-founder of the Waffle movement, is the primary author of letters received by Prepas. The letters discuss updates and plans for Waffle groups across Canada, the state of the NDP party at the provincial and federal level, and Smart’s administrative duties. File also contains an election pamphlet for Carol Gudmundson and flyers for the Gilfargo Workers striking in Oakville, Ontario. File also includes issues of the Waffle News and Waffle Labour News and copies of the papers ‘For an Independent Socalist Canada – Resolutions prepared by the Waffle Movement in the New Democratic Party for the consideration of Riding Associations Affiliated Union Locals and Youth Clubs for the Federal Convention of the New Democratic Party’ (1971), ‘Towards a Nationalization of Canadian Sociology’ by Mike Gurstein, ‘What the Waffle’s All About” by Mel Watkins.

Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence and cards received by Rita Greer Allen as well as copies of her outgoing correspondence and photographs. Much of the correspondence in this series is personal in nature, organized by the surname of the correspondent. Correspondents include Earle and Esther Birney, theatrical agent Elspeth Cochrane, Reva and Leonard Brooks, members of the Weyman family, Jack Shadbolt, Hugh MacLennan, Lady Susan Tweedsmuir, Charles Wassermann, and many others.

(Treasury) stock sales

File consists of records collected by Arnold Hoffman as treasurer, related to sales of Gold Operators (Canada) Ltd. and Thompson-Lundmark Gold Mines Ltd. stock in 1946. The file also contains a memo and associated materials regarding the estimated earnings of Coniaurum mines 1934; two drawings of drill holes on a Hoffman claim, and a Shaw-Hoffman claim in Rouyn township, Quebec, 1931; and a published report by the Province of Quebec, Department of Labour, Mines, and Maritime Fisheries, entitled "Mining Properties and Development Work in the Abitibi and Temiscamingue Counties," 1939.

Series includes personal and professional correspondence, drafts of articles and radio plays and draft and manuscripts of plays and novels written by Boyle, photographs, sound and audio visual recordings.

Academic and teaching files

Series consists of material that documents Moore's academic career and courses of study at the University of Toronto and includes essays, notes, and exams as well as material that documents his interest in student theatre. It includes various student publications and contains copies of 'The Twig' and 'The Undergraduate.' It also contains material related to his tenure as a professor at York University in Toronto and includes correspondence relating to the Theatre Department and to the Faculty of Fine Arts, copies of minutes of the University Senate and other bodies within the University on which Moore sat, scripts and musical scores for 'Review of revues,' a Theatre Department production of satirical sketches based on 'Spring Thaw' (1977), as well as rare photographs of theatre productions at York.

Fonds consists of personal and professional correspondence including correspondence with fellow writers such as John Metcalf, Guy Vanderhaeghe, Robyn Sarah, Adele Wiseman and Ralph Gustafson among others, academic and teaching files that document his career as a student at the University of Toronto and Cambridge and professorial files for courses taught at York University. It also includes editorial files that document his work with fellow poets at The Banff Centre for the Fine Arts and writing files including notes, drafts and manuscripts related to his own publications. Accession 2011-032 includes correspondence from Northrop Frye giving Coles advice about an academic career, book reviews written by Coles for "The Globe and mail" from the 1970s to 2001, seminar notes for the Humanities course, "Works & days," reviews of his writing, and drafts of the book of poetry, "Where we might have been" (2010).
