Fonds consists of research material, notes, drafts, edited manuscripts, and proof pages for M.G. Vassanji's novels, collections of short stories, and non-fiction; scripts for an unfinished television project, "The Abdullah quartet"; unpublished drafts of poems and fragments of stories; research material on politics, religion, violence, and society in India from historical and contemporary perspectives, and arrangements for Vassanji's visits to India; drafts of his articles for Maclean's on social unrest in Africa; and drafts of his lectures on writing, cultural identities, and diversity given in Canada and Great Britain. The fonds includes professional correspondence with publishers and others, copies of articles related to his work, memorabilia about his literary career, publicity material related to his writing and to awards, and correspondence regarding his work as a teacher of writing. The fonds also contains material regarding his academic and professional activities as a nuclear physicist including course outlines, notes, essays, and offprints of articles authored or co-authored by Vassanji.

Norman Campbell fonds

Fonds consists of records related to Campbell's work as a director and producer with the CBC and with other broadcasters. As a director, Campbell's responsibilities included those immediate to the production of an episode or program, such as directing performers and crew. As a producer, Campbell was responsible for the overall creative direction of a program, as well as the management of technical, financial and human resources. Records include copies of scripts, production notes and reviews, and files related to productions and office administration. Fonds also contains photographs of Campbell and others on sets and in production, video recordings of shows on which Campbell worked, papers pertaining to "Anne of Green Gables -- the musical," including requests to perform the musical and any modifications to the script, and copies of legal documents related to the use and licensing of Anne of Green Gables.

Photographs

Series consists mainly of photographs depicting Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell and actors, dancers, crew and other colleagues from productions on which he worked. Many photographs were taken by Campbell. Also included are some textual records that accompanied the photographs, newspaper clippings pertaining to Campbell’s death, an audio recording of an interview with Elaine Campbell, and posters.

Series consists of copies of recordings, many from CBC TV, of television productions relating to Norman Campbell’s career as a director, producer and composer.

Scripts

Series consists primarily of scripts received and used by Campbell in his role as a director, responsible for filming or recording an episode or a program. In this capacity, Campbell would work directly with cast and crew on aspects specifically related to a particular episode or program, rather on the production as a whole. Scripts may be annotated and different versions /drafts of a given script may exist. Series also contains other documents related to directing a production, including correspondence, meeting agendas, various production related schedules, handwritten notes, completed forms and paperwork, technical drawings/blueprints for sets, and scores for music. Series further contains photographs from a set or auditions, background research into performers or production subjects (such as newspaper clippings and reviews) and copies of Campbell's contracts and work permits.

Series consists of materials related to a production in its early or planning stages. Series includes handwritten notes, correspondence, idea files, program proposals, early drafts of production/shooting schedules and background research regarding a subject or location, such as newspaper clippings, magazine articles and brochures.
